Whoever designed these cities and areas, my goodness. Vergen is awesome.

Start of act two, fantastic.

The who owl sequence was just, that's how you start an act.

Vergen puts Orzammar to shame & then some. And its mines make the Deep Roads look cartoony.

Man, these mines are awesone, it's an even better experience if you don't light any torches.  Had the Deep Roads been like this, man.

The game has finished downloading, and I created an account and registered my game, but now when I go to the launcher it says "Connection error. Try again later." at the bottom (referring to the DLC link). Trying to launch the game nets me a "The Witcher 2 failed to start (error code 80)." This is with the Steam version of the game. Any suggestions?

Quite an inauspicious start =/

Wait some 15 seconds. It always takes me that long to connect when I launch through the launcher and it says Connection Error too.

lol got this game to run so much better for free... unlocked 2 extra cores on my phenom x2 cpu, usually 2 core processors are just 4 core processors with faulty extra cores so they lock it down to 2 cores, i was lucky and found all 4 cores in working order

game runs so unbelievably smoother

I was perpetually poor. Never had more than 2200 orens at one time. ;)

On my interrupted run I managed to get some 5,000 then spent it all at the end of Act 1 on formulas and diagrams! Took me a lot of walking overweighted too, even after I got the Crafting components weight mod.

-------
SPOILER

I have a question. I managed to fight only Newboy's thugs and kept him alive using the charm sign. Wouldn't leave a whole section of that area without looting! Then I moved on, started Act 1, etc. Will Newboy be there? Will he give me the amulet? How does it play when we spare him?

I'm asking cuz I'm re-restarting (got a talents bug and could not spend them, somehow) and if fighting his guards breaks a script or something, I might just kill 'em all, again!

Oh, and BTW, that build guide posted a few pages ago, said we get the  "Strong Back" by helping the guard Captain in the dungeon. We gain that ability by helping Ayran La Vallete too, if we spared him before.

I waited and nothing happened, but it's working now.  I think Steam decided to update itself without notifying me.

Is there no way to fiddle with the graphics settings while in game?  Having to close it and re-start it again to find an optimal point is going to be annoying.

So I finally arrived in Act 2. I sided with Ioverth and I don't regret it atm. Ioverth is a hothead but also a badass with his sarcastic humor, reminds me of another Geralt in a way (plus his VA is just awesome).

The Prelude to War in the beginning of Act 2 was mind blowing as you traverse through the fog. The wraith visions really felt you were walking amidst a post-apocalyptic world.

Well, I have GoG's version. And yeah, it's a bit annoying having to close the game to fiddle with the settings (also, you can only re-map hotkeys there) but game loads so quickly I got used to it! =)

Sigh, I have to do an entire pro-Scoia'tel TW1 run before I get to see the different Act II and III.

If Iorveth is a badass then Roche is every 80's actionhero poured into one. B)

His bridge scene was epic.

You can't change graphics settings in game. I suspect this prevents the game having to tell us to restart it due to changes requiring a rendering engine reboot. We'd have to restart anyway so this just removes the annoyance of a message.

I'm not sure what "optimal" is for different people. Obviously some will look to get better performance, while others prefer a better looking game. I can run it full tilt so I went with appearance. Turned off all the blurs and depth of field stuff, and also disabled Bloom because imo the game looks better with default lighting. SSAO is up to you; it creates soft shadows around 3D objects and can lead to a better looking 3D scene. Uber rendering doesn't look a whole lot different than standard rendering. What's funny is that the game looks better (imo) with roughly half the options disabled. Also, despite the description, setting LOD to far still leaves things changing detail fairly close to us.

Also helps to check the readme file - it explains each graphics option in some detail.

Guys mind not putting spoilers or is there a spoiler tag? :P. I want to know can the formula & diagrams be sold? In witcher1 once you learned, it can be sold

Ofc you can sell them but you cant "learn" , if you sell you wont make potions without it.

Can't wait to play it again but I've gotta beat Honest Hearts since I started it.
Its so beautiful that almost every scene out of this game deserves to be put into a frame and onto the wall.

Ioverth's VA on the prison barge was really really really good. Way better than Yaevinn from TW1 so far.

But in all seriousness, I wish there was a neutral path I can take, I like both Roche and Ioverth.

BTW being called 'Gwynnbleide' (or however you spell it) is ****ing awesome.

Sometimes you have to take a side . I'm going to start my Scoi'atel run tommorow. Lets see how different it plays out!

So, anyone visit Margo the madam after the fight at the Elven Gardens? Not sure if the result is the same if you help Ioverth during the fight(helped Roche). I didn't expect that.

Which is better, the Ioverth path or the Roche path?

I would have been dead were it not for Roche

Iorveth has always been 'not good' for my survival

Yeah I didn't expect that... Everybody does it... Look at the Blue Stripes in Act II (Yes, that was very ambigious.)

Result is different if you pass sword to Iorveth. Can't say more.

You'll probably end up liking Iorverth's character a lot if you stick with him.

Alright, is there a royal huntsman in Flotsam or what? Where do I take my trophies?

My first play through I stuck with Iorverth. I really like the VA for him, and that "ring" scene I thought was humorous.

My 2nd, going with roache, I kinda like him, tho he's a dick.

This time trohpies are used like trinkets or rings are used in other RPG's. Just take the most useful one and sell the rest.

There is an inventory slot for trophies. Sell the rest :)
