Finished up the game. It was pretty good, a few issues here and there but the story telling was excellent. However, I did find the last chapter a bit short.

Spoiler

I got it to 30% while going up the tower, so it was easy. Drinking a +75% resist potion on the 60% resist armor + Quen = immune to flames.

[Beginning Act III spoilers]

I just got to Act 3 and was given a 'choice' to talk to the Order of the Flaming Rose or go with Iorveth, so I go to the Order, they attack me and I kill them... and kill them... and kill them.. and kill them..

For 30 minutes I kill them as they continue to respawn endlessly, and then the game crashes. :/

[/end spoiler]

I'm surprised at how much easier the game has gotten this time around. I'm only level 11, but I'm mowing through things with ease. ...(playing on hard).

This game reminds me so much of DA:Origins that it is weird. I had this same feeling about Origins and have even posted about it at that time. Why does it feel that Hard diff is easier than Normal? (Like NM felt easier than Hard in Origins?)

The manual actually says:

"New game:

High – for very experienced gamers. Opponents deal high damage, and it’s harder to acquire items. Many battles require the use of a sword, magic and alchemy."

I'm finding a lot more items than in my first run and items I couldn't find on my first run in Normal. Lots of Trophies from Drowners in prologue, Nekkers and Endrega (still level 7 atm), lots of Greater Critical Mutagens .. (used 2 so far and it rocks!!!). I actually sold all imported and bonus items in Flotsam and never used them from start, except the Herbalist's Gloves to stockpile ingredients! =) - But perhaps it was not meant to be this way, although it is not unusual for games to drop better items at higher difficulty level.

Well, my personal conclusion is that, not only being able to do combat better by understanding better the game mechanics, magic and trap system, helps but better developing my Geralt and getting some early abilities I didn't even know how to get on my first run helps a lot! (Cover for 10% damage reduction is actually awesome, among others.) Plus I'm hitting with Critical Effects a whole lot with only 2 Greater Mutagens! Knockdowns, incineration and Poisoning I can tell when happen. The others not yet.

I had this exact same excited feeling with Origins. Experience with the game is one of the best weapons available!

I picked up my copy yesterday. Despite a misprinted soundtrack (It works fine, though), I'm pleased with the contents. Well done to CDP in that regard.

Loaded up the game this morning and the first thing I got were graphics issues! Geralt had hair the colour of luminescent pus, which is always good. Updated my drivers to the latest beta ones, and it's gone to normal. First thoughts are that it's quite a good looking game with some good, if not perfect, animations. Little things like Geralt making grunting/breathing sounds with his mouth closed annoyed me a little in that first scene outside of the prison (Or one of them, anyway), as did Triss' lack of boob-physics in the same scene. It struck me as a little odd that they stayed pretty damn still, considering the emphasis they put on boobs.

Well, now that I know it works, I suppose I'd better finish the first game.

Yay for replay that let me find stuff I missed the first time. Could never enter the area that Astrogaru's Armor was in! Cool piece of leather for a level 8!

Soooooooo.........I just got a rather smexy reward for a decision I thought was nice but rather insignificant.......

Those bloody NPCs remember EVERYTHING, it's amazing.

Only Shani seems to have been conveniently written out.

The Witcher 3 is a PC only title...

It is currently at No 5 on the UK sales charts...

it is outselling the original Witcher by a three to one ratio.

When I see things like this it causes me to wonder about Bioware's strategy

9.0 Well deserved

"This distinguished game makes an important statement: Visual beauty, challenging action, and game-changing decisions can coexist in a modern RPG. In one beauteous stroke, The Witcher 2 has raised the stakes. No longer need we accept that role-playing games must sacrifice the quality of one element in favor of another. Instead, we are allowed to have it all. And how wonderful that we have it right here, right now, in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings."

Lesson learnt, BioWare/Bethesda?

So Destructoid gave TW2 a 60??

What a joke. I wanna be a game journalist so I can get paid to troll.

That was an amusing little read.

"You'll soon learn that player speculation is a big part of The Witcher 2, in both combat and quests. Much of the game is more a case of, "Try to guess what the developers were thinking," than anything involving skill or intelligence. CD Projekt seems to love telling players to do something, but not how to do it."

The absence of the Almighty Holding Hand can be quite terrifying for the first time it seems. I wonder how much time did it take for him to figure out the Act III rune puzzles, because buying books and reading ingame lore is blasphemious. :wizard:

The instant gratification crowd has infiltrated the videogame journalism industry.

These were my thoughts exactly when I read that review. It seems his primary complaint with the game is that he's actually required to try and learn things rather than have them spoon-fed to him at every turn.

I really dont give a damn about gametrailers because they shouldn't review any games. They should only releasing trailers.

SECONDARY QUEST SPOILER ALERT

I lied to guards about her involvement. Went for sex but got ambushed by elves. Got pissed. Went searching. Found her and spared her. Nice teddy bear that I am.

Yep, i saved my game and reloaded so i could check if Geralt would get lucky but as i expected it was a trap so killed them all then reloaded and gave her to the soldiers.

That battle annoyed me because I didn't think you could drink potions. (Rendering alchemy useless.) Where can you drink a potion?

Open up your meditation menu and you'll see options to open the Meditate, Character, Alchemy, or Drink Potions. It's something that I totally forgot was in TW1 as well, got too used to the whole "chug n' run" type of potions in most RPGs.

It's like any game thread/forum. Lot of activity in the build-up to release, then it comes out and people are off playing it.
