After my bro Foltest getting butchered, it's pretty hard not to join with the other bro, Vernon.

There's no way I'll ever be able to join the Scoia'tael, even less than in TW1. After all the mess Geralt went through to save Temeria in TW1, there's just no way to let it go to waste.

That mess that happened to Vizima was the result of rioting sparked by the Order's slaughter of nonhuman women and children, according to Zoltan.  I'd side with him over anybody else.  Human characters in the Witcher games, with few exceptions, are stupid, blindly ambitious, thoughtless and bigoted; I'm not going to have Geralt allow them to lynch elves and dwarves that aren't even involved with the Scoia'tael.

Iorveth is more of a bastard than Yaevinn was by far, but fighting systemic racist oppression is something I'll always steer Geralt towards, in the first game as in the second.  Plus, the second act path from that perspective is absolutely great.

I don't see how anybody could have sided with the Order in the first game, since Siegfried even becomes less of a good guy and more of a jackbooted fascist thug toward the end due to the insidious nature of the organization.  You had to work with White Rayla herself in the Order path, who's more genocidal than Iorveth.

I didn't look at Foltest as a "bro" really, just someone who knew what he valued and doggedly pursued it (at the expense of his soldiers' lives).  He seems to be the only king with any sort of scruples (though obviously not regarding ploughing his sister), and Vernon Roche shares the same sort of core values despite his overly punitive deeds (like torturing people to death).  It's hard not to like Roche, really, but he's still a very flawed man, and I look forward to seeing where his path takes me this next go round.

That battle annoyed me because I didn't think you could drink potions. (Rendering alchemy useless.) Where can you drink a potion?

Open up your meditation menu and you'll see options to open the Meditate, Character, Alchemy, or Drink Potions. It's something that I totally forgot was in TW1 as well, got too used to the whole "chug n' run" type of potions in most RPGs.

Heheh. I meant where can you drink a potion during the very last battle? Because that's what one of those guys said they did. I couldn't find anywhere to meditate. (There are 2 more boss fights like this too, so far as I can tell.)

I thought the last battle was visually amazing, but if you can't use alchemy, then that's really odd. (So I assumed I was missing something. However, there wasn't anyone using alchemy in the last battle on youtube last night, anyway.)

Spoilers

The Dragon?  I meditated before I left the ampitheater, I didn't know what was going to be in the tower.  I meditated before I walked into the last area with Letho too.  But I either talked to him for too long, or the didn't carry over because I had to potions when the fight started,

Game was awesome btw.

Unless Iorveth shoots random rider just for fun, I don´t see him much worse than Yaevinn. If not for Toruviel he would have killed Ciri.

Got the game today. Must say I'm impressed! I really liked to see how much love was put into this. Movement is very good, combat is harder but not frustrating, and I'm loving the small things that make the places feel alive and real. Simple stuff, like 2 guys having soup, or someone fixing an armor make a big difference, instead os a deserted Ghost town populated by copy pasted NPCs >.>

I think the only minor complaint I have is that I kinda prefer Geralt's face in the first game... He looks different now, less "wolf-like" (must be due to the new engine)

Ah! And the graphics are really pretty! I took these screens in the lowest of settings, running on a GeForce 9500GT pre-historic card XD (I need an upgrade)

@Aaleel OK, I'll try it. I guess a Witcher would prepare before climbing a tower like that.

Did you manage to use alchemy in the Draug battle?

That's odd they original face for Geralt was changed to match the face from Witcher 1.

Bioware definitely need to take pointers from CDPR on how to make a great RPG, seriously completely pommels DA2 in every posible way, and this is coming from a Bioware fanboy.

Seriously guys, where'st the spark gone? You used to take your time with games in the past, with passion and heart going into each release.. before DA2.

Thats nice. I was expecting them to put 8.5 since they've been doing that for the last several reviews.

Don't know about legend, but a much needed game, it seems devs are catching on, between this and LA noir to set a more mature and reflective tone, can't wait for it to come on console, on a different note saw something to day that i know some people will get a kick out of, saints row3 has an awesome button, yes you heard me an actual awesome button, apparently if you push and hold the button something awesome happens that replaces the normal action you chose.

Yea what's their problem? I don't care for IGN.

I did like this review though.

"The plot stubbornly refuses to slow down and often unexpectedly spirals
into crescendos of betrayals and wild revelations involving a huge cast
of scheming characters who don't feel like tired video game stereotypes;
they feel human."

THANK YOU PERSEPHONE:wub:, picked up the game today, played it for a few hours and Im in love, I can run it on high settings on my PC and it looks fantastic, the story has me hooked already, I hope this gets BIoware to step up their game and make DA3 with as much love and polish as TW2.

The only gripe I have so far is that its hard to see the loot bags sometimes lol, other than that, I am truly impressed so far, and I dont get the people saying it has a steep learning curve or its too hard, I would say its just different and people need to get used to that.

A little tip to help with that, if you activate your medallion after you kill a bunch of enemies all of the loot bags on the ground will start to glow. Makes it much easier to spot 'em.

Finally I had a chance to play the game for a few precious minutes.

Simply gorgeous with all settings maxed at 1920x1080, except for ubersampling disabled. I haven't checked with FRAPS but it seems to be pretty good frame rate, at least 30-40 fps I imagine, with very large texture memory selected and all other settings maxed.

Surprised that it runs so well on a laptop. Maybe it is very well optimized for multi-threading on quad core?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but there didn't seem to be any setting for Anisotropic Filtering, or any way to adjust the level of AA other than "Enabled" or "Disabled" - do I need to try to do that within the Catalyst Control Center?

For those not into blur and over-brightness, know that you can disable blur and depth-of-field and bloom and the game can actually look better. :) You'll get better performance as well. I consider those to be flavor option. The default HDR (lighting) is more than sufficient. But if you like your game looking like a sunny day on the Sahara, leave bloom on (or if you are cursed with a dark display).

From what I read in the readme, Ubersampling does a better job than max anisotropy/AA, and at 1920x1200 it's hard for me to see any jaggies, and textures look very nice.

For what it's worth, with my suggested settings (all maxed except those above) I get very fluid framerates with no lag whatsoever.

Most welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying this gem. I'm on my second runthrough and dammit, it's like two different games. The decisions/branches are so well done, it's breathtaking.:wub::wub:
