I don't really have a problem with Geralt getting together again with Triss. After all, in Chapter V of TW1 Geralt will always end the relationship with Shani because he fears for her safety anyway. Triss had always been in love with Geralt, even when he was with Yennefer, so it could be so simple that she just needed some time to cool down.

I'm only a bit disappointed because I had been expecting Triss to act coldly and snappy towards Geralt throughout the game after importing a Shani save.

Can't see why. It's not an universal truth but it is the closest it can get to "whatever lives have to die!".

First off, please don't misquote me.  Second, whether an opinion is minority or majority is not relevant to me, nor should it be relevant to anyone when it comes to their own enjoyment or evaluation of a game, especially a single player one.

The vast majority of non-trolling criticisms of TW2 have been stated clearly and logically.  That they diminish the game for others does not mean they must diminish them for you, but it also doesn't mean that because some might disagree with them or acknowledge them as they overlook them that they don't exist, or aren't relevant.

Many of the common complaints about DA2 are for things that I either view as positives, or didn't bother me at all.  That doesn't mean I'd say those who made such criticisms are trolls or shouldn't post their views.

Back more on topic, my criticism - or at least the only one I've levelled of any significance - that Flotsam bored me enough to stop playing has without fail resulted in one response:  It gets better.

This implicitly acknowledges that the criticism is valid by agreeing with the premise that Flotsam is less good than the rest of the game.  But this is where relative perception comes in.  If I think a game is - using a hypothetical example now - a 5/10 overall, then the bad parts will be 3/10 and unplayable for me.  If someone else thinks a game is a 10/10, the 8/10 bad parts aren't going to bug them much.  However, they would still agree that those are the bad parts, and can come to some kind of consensus as to what was wrong with them.  Common ground, in this sense, is possible.

Back to Flotsam.  It's not as if other responses to that complaint wouldn't mean different things.  For example if people had responded by saying, "Well if you don't like Flotsam you probably won't like the rest of the game."  But no-one has, they all say that it gets better.  The premise of said criticism is therefore actually agreed upon.

Never pursued Shani in witcher 1 because it seemed illogical to entrust a powerful source to her but even if I had the medic probably doesn't mix with politics, kings and adventurers like Triss does so I can see why she wouldn't be involved in the stuff going down in assassins of king. Hell she's probably still in Vizima dealing with the last bouts of the Catriona plague, or whatever new maladies have arisen.

From a Nord at GoG:

Quote
Norwegian tabloid/newspaper Dagbladet got a review up as well:

6/6 -
"The most beautiful RPG in the world?"
Pros: Fantastic atmosphere, rewarding combat system, visually unique.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning (yes, they actually wrote that)

Conclusion:
"If you are one of those who only got time to reward yourself with a single role playing game in the year, you can't afford to miss out on this. Buy The Witcher 2 as the greatest addition of 2011."

In the review itself, their only complaint is about the uneven difficulty curve.

EDIT: I had no idea they mention Bioware in the article! Just google translated it at this very moment!!!  I swear!!! :innocent:

I understand of course if you're not at liberty to disclose such hints at this time, though.

Of course I'm not. Just pointing out that we haven't forgotten about Shani , and she is not yet done in our games.

btw: In my plathrough of W1 I choosed Shani over Triss.

Assuming they exist, and I've persistently questioned that they do, why would it?

More importantly, what does it have to do with The Witcher 2 thread?

Not alot to do with the thread but they most certainly exists, which I'm pretty sure you realize that. You're one of the more logical folks around AngryPants.

Most of the folks I've seen have that label applied to them don't really seem to deserve it. I say "most" instead of "all" because my memory isn't perfect.

People have preferences, that's all.

I'm pretty sure the people who bashed TW2 without any constructive criticism and gave it zeros on Metacritic, and gave DA2 10/10 scores can be consdered "biodrones". Then again, Metacritic is filled to the brim with trolls, so I basically ignore the user reviews. Even Yahtzee looks like Roger Ebert in comparison.

Probably, but I'm not sure they post here. I try not to pay too much attention to Metacritic user reviews. It's like high school in there.

"Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening. Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. Since CDPR is small studio i bet they had a little sleep past couple days,.First patchnotes (not full yet) on their official site.

Definitely found the difficulty refreshing (though I'll admit, the difficulty curve could do with tweaking). What I find most amusing are the two lowest reviewer scores on Metacritic (6/10) both come off as criticizing the game for not holding their hand and giving them instant gratification on everything. It's pretty sad, really.

Patch highlights :

http://en.thewitcher...unity/entry/30/

Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening. Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. This is our primary concern since there are significant changes and upgrades that will affect many users.

1. Simpler and more reliable game installation and activation. Details to be revealed soon.

2. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included n the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

3. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

4. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

5. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

6. Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement.

7. Added the option to invert the mouse.

8. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

9. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

10. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

11. Fixed a bug that prevented the additional link in "Extras" from being unlocked after winning the dice game against the GOG.com monk.

12. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The full list of all changes will be available upon the release of the patch. If you have experienced any issues that are not on the list above, please don't worry. We have already started working on the next patch, which will address other difficulties and bugs, including those related to specific hardware setups; e.g.. Logitech g35. You may expect this second patch to be ready next week.

Patch 1.1 will be available for all the versions of the game, both retail and digital, except for Russian. However, we would like to assure our Russian fans that we are aware of the problems with the your version of the game (thanks for your reports!) and we are talking with 1C about possible solutions.

Not necessarily.
Saying that the game gets better in Foltsam, does not necessarily mean that those who say so think that Foltsam is bad. Rather, they could think that Foltsam is good, and it gets better.

I would not agree that Foltsam is bad, I personally really liked Foltsam for a variety fo reasons but I would certaintly agree that it gets better from there.

And yes, it's my subjective opinion.

You must have skipped over the part where I talked about how "bad" is relative.

But this is where relative perception comes in.  If I think a game is - using a hypothetical example now - a 5/10 overall, then the bad parts will be 3/10 and unplayable for me.  If someone else thinks a game is a 10/10, the 8/10 bad parts aren't going to bug them much.

If something is only good and then later becomes excellent, then it stands to reason that there was something holding the earlier part from also being excellent.
