Okay, I haven't played either of these games, but I'm intrested. They look pretty cool. But I have to ask, are there any mods that allow you to alter the PC's appearance? Or are you stuck with Geralt?

Nothing that dramatically changes the way he looks, though there might be some in the future.

You are stuck with Geralt. He's a bit dry, but he's not an overly abrasive character to play as.

Just finished finally. I can see why reviews don't like how it ends but playing on Steam I got the achievement "To Be Continued" that just screams expac!
What a great game starting a new playthrough later.

I had to get a screenshot of this it looked great.

For those with Scoia'tael imports, is there any mention of Toruviel?

She's a nice character but unfortunately it's impossible to keep her alive outside the Scoia'tael path in TW1.

Not heard any mention of her in my last playthrough, which if she was going to be mentioned would be the most likely one to see it since I took the Iorveth path. Iorveth does mention me siding up with the Scoia'Tael in the last game and how he had talked to Yaevinn about me before so it did recognise the path I went through.

Geralt is a lot like me in mood and way of talking. :) Intellectually I'm more like Kalkstein though.

Vernon Roche is the only man who can fall through a bridge, roll into the fall, and then punch some guy in the face and make it look like he had planned the whole thing from the beginning.

Roche for ME3 squadmate?

Hahah, preferable to Kaiden IMO. Yes please!

As for inventory, at first I had issues, but then when I realized that the reason there is so much lootable stuff around towns, is because you should really only gather it when you need it. I mean the hardest thing to get a hold of for me was silver ore, and that was because it's usually very deep in caves.

You can buy silver ore from several npc's in the game. It isn't that expensive either.

Yea even Geralt looked unsurprised by Roche not only walking off the fall, but kicking ass 1 sec after. It's like everyday's work.

Geralt and Roche tag teaming to retrieve Anais was also uber badass.

I just finished my first playthrough yesterday, took a day to think on the experience. I freely admit that I absolutely suck at the combat, had to play it on easy after getting repeatedly crushed by one of the prologue fights on normal. And I still struggled at times. Although I did start to get better I did suffer from Geralt not wanting to do things that I wanted to, perhaps my PC just isn't good enough and it was down to lag. I do remember one amusing point where regardless of how many times I tried to sheath my sword it wouldn't work and the guards in Flotsam actually started attacking me because of it.

My lacking Witchery ability aside, I really quite enjoyed the game. Having not played the first one and only having heard the hype about the second, and negative comments about the first (sex cards, etc) I was unsure whether I would like it. The story was good, kept me interested and wanting to find out more. I liked some of the character's immensly, especially Roche and Zoltan, probably because they were solid archetypes. Triss was ok, plus I have a thing for redheads, but I thought her VA was a bit weak. Roche's VA put some serious emotion into what happened to his Blue Stripes (I went with the Roche path rather than Iorveth, as I'm quite bored by Elves in fantasy regardless of specifics. They still always seem to make them arrogant elitist snobs regardless of standing in particular societies.) I cannot stand Dandelion, after only one playthrough I want him to die a horrible, horrible death. Is it so much to ask for a game with a Bard who is not an annoying twit all the time? Oh, wait, I've still got DA:O.

I will say the characters I met only occassionally intrigued me, like Saskia, Sile, even Loredo as repugnant as he was, was an interesting enough character.

I liked the night/day cycle, although I didn't see it actually being used much beyond a few quests. I would have liked to see a bit more use out of it, perhaps quests which take place at a specific time but if you don't do them within a few days of getting them they get failed. Or maybe that would be too much to ask for. The whole crafting side of the game bugged me. I could just never find myself interested enough to hunt down ingredients for different things. I'd rather just be able to buy the finished product in a shop than running around for the bits and then having someone put them together for me. I was always having to sell off stuff to free up space and then finding useful diagrams which required the stuff I'd just sold off and couldn't get back.

I enjoyed the mini-games for the most part, which is odd as I normally hate them in most RPGs. Apart from the dice poker, it just seemed such random luck and I'd rather have something more skill-based for a mini-game. At least if I lose at the arm wrestling I know it's because I suck and not because the computer decided my dice would roll to the lowest possible scores while my opponent get's all stars.

All in all I felt it was a good solid game, but nothing spectacular. I want to find out what happens next but I'll not be desperately waiting from now until the Witcher 3.

EDIT: Also, a question. Do we find out anywhere who killed Bousey? I might of missed it or chosen the wrong dialogue options but wondered about that.

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE:

I don't get the complaints of a lackluster ending at all.  The whole story was about the kingslayers, their motivations, Geralt clearing his name and everything was resolved.  I'm glad they didn't go for another thrilling cliffhanger of a conclusion after how well the first game ended.  It also tied up a lot of threads from the previous game including Phillipa, Geralt's memory, the Wild Hunt, etc.  The overarching plot of all the corruption and fighting between the kingdoms, the Lodge, Yennefer, the Nilfgaards is the setup for probably the next game.  Also, how can you not like the last bit with Letho and Geralt, "Got any vodka?"

Definitely found the difficulty refreshing (though I'll admit, the difficulty curve could do with tweaking). What I find most amusing are the two lowest reviewer scores on Metacritic (6/10) both come off as criticizing the game for not holding their hand and giving them instant gratification on everything. It's pretty sad, really.

Thats just tne entitlement mentality that so many have today, you can thank liberalism for that.

You're blaming what you see wrong in video games on a subjective interpretation of a political ideaology?

Alright.....just finished playthrough Nr. 2, siding with Iorveth and doing quite a few things differently......

HOLY DAMN.......this ending was even more amazing. Without spoilers.....those who have played it will know what I mean....a scene involving a certain dagger. That was so heartbreakingly moving..... It was almost entirely different, even though it was "just from another angle"......I am utterly amazed just how many differences several choices can make.

I was entirely blown away the first time. This time I'm completely awestruck. FANTASTIC game. I cannot wait for more content.:wub::wub:

Indeed, the primary plot of assassins of kings has been revealed perfectly during TW2. "Got any vodka?" add more special characters for both witchers.^_^

Or screw it completely and go straight for TW2.

If I had to find a fault in this game somewhere, it would definately be the appearance and new VO for Triss. I can't help but feel that in TW1, she was a wise but dangerous woman who was in every way Geralt's match. She was very much, an adult.

In TW2, she looks like she is about 24 and sounds like it too. Now all of a sudden, Geralt is sleeping with somebody 20 years younger than him (or more? I have no idea how old Geralt might actually be).

Wish there was a mod to give her back her TW1 appearance.

I'm downloading different TW1 saves to try them out. (Played TW1 A LOT but I no longer have all of my end saves)

Agreed. She is more like Shani voice/appearance wise now. While in TW1 she was a woman around thirty, strong, independent and cunning. Looked like it too. Sure wonder why that was changed. It wasn't a good decision. And the old VO actress was much better too.

I really liked Iorverth. Like any other elf in the Witcher they are just trying to gain their rights even if by drastic means. Act II reveals a lot about him and his idealistic views. Saskia is great and really finding out about her really made me not *SPOILER*

kill her after fighting her in Act III.
