Anyone having trouble installing the patch? The Gog version won't install for me.

"failed applying patch to Witcher 2 blah, blah, f*cking blah". I'm getting impatient with CD red, get the damn patch out, the website up, and your servers working for christsake.

Make sure to extract the GoG update file somewhere, then right click-> run as Administrator.  The same thing happened to me when I took shortcuts(I usually run the exe from within winrar preview - this file doesn't work like that, at least on Windows7) and didn't do both of those things. Once I did, the patch installed quickly.

Well, I tried it. Also tried having Winrar extract directly to launcher file. Doesn't work. Oh well, thank's anyway. I'll try it again later.

GoG edition must be patched with the file from GOG, not from TW2 website. It says so there. Again, where did you get your file?

I was skeptical about the patch increasing overall performance, but not only is combat more responsive now but everything from loading times to dice rolling have sped up. Color me impressed!

Alright tried again and for whatever reason it just worked. They are also giving away all the free dlc packs at GoG. Thats nice of them. Ok...no more Mr. grouchy pants here.

Initially I had problems installing the patch, it kept telling me my game version was "invalid or incomplete", but as soon as I removed all the mods and DLC (downloaded Troll Troubles off a mirror since I couldn't get it off the TW2 server) it worked just fine.

The system I posted about before? It's on steam but it's a bit better.

For the most part though, this did not increase my fps.

Finished the game on Insane ( though not a full insane since I died right at the very end of Act 2 to the bloody golem. Still reloaded a hard save and played through every single fight on Insane difficulty after ).

I look at those who say the begining is the hardest and laugh, I really laugh.

Sure most of Chapter 2 is pathetic with the right talents, but Chapter 3? Elite troops, Golems, Gargoyles, and a bloody ****ing dragon which you can only hit with quick attacks and have to be extremly fast on your feet if you want to live ( 2 hits without Quen will kill you with the very best gear available ) and who does not let you use potions? Yeah....easy my ass compared to the Kayran.

Sure the Kayran is sorta the ultimate test of reflexes ( since a single hit can kill you there ) but the Kayran can be done Naked with just a silver sword, quite easily if you have a tactic ready...for the dragon that doesn't work out well.

Not sure if your telling us to try it or not sounds awesome planning on a Insane playthrough on my 4th run though.

Let me just say this:

Be ready to die.

It may happen at the start, it may happen in Chapter 1, or at the end of Chapter 3 or at the very end of the game but IT WILL happen ( unless you are very lucky ).

Just make some hard saves for the situation. ( Save, Reduce difficulty, save again and reload insane save if you are playing on steam for achievement ).

I also would recommend playing fights like the Kayran, Draug, Dragon etc. on hard before trying on insane.

I'll probably try Insane on my 2nd or 3rd playthrough. Adds a lot of tension, but makes the game much more enjoyable IMO. Loved 'hardcore' in Dead Space 2.

When they say your save gets erased on insane, exactly how far back do you go when you die?

I did normal first playthrough, doing hard now, but it's funny because now that I have the hang of the controls, this one on Hard is going more smoothly than my first.

My first playthrough was on Hard I'm finding it much easier now the last time I remember dying was during the very ending and meditating next to a Harpy Lure >.>

Aaleel: You restart the game.

If you load an earlier save to redo some boss fight and you die then even your older saves get deleted.

There's no way to get back your saves.

Doesn't making 'hard saves' (either by your method, or by manually copying the saves in windows to another location where they won't be deleted) defy the point?

I mean - I guess if you just want an achievement, whatever, but I'd much rather actually finish the difficulty as intended (that is to say, not 'cheating' it by using 'hard saves' or copies) - but to each their own! Posted Image

WHAT??  You die in the third act and go back to the prologue?

When you say your older saves, do you mean the saves for the current game, or all of them, even from previous games?

From my understanding it's just the current playthrough saves.

No achievement this way, trust me :).

Also if you load a hard save, set the diifculty on insane then save again then that newer save won't work ( I learned that the hard way ). You can however play fights on insane then tune down the dificulty to hard to get working saves.

What I meant was this (a possible cheat method to get the achievement easily):

Play on Insane from the start of the game. I presume that turning the difficulty down from Insane at any point in the game, even for an instant (to save on hard, as you have) disables the achievement.

So keep it on Insane the whole time. When you want to save and not lose your save even if you die, save your game, quit TW2, find the save file location in Windows, copy it to another folder elsewhere. Now if you die, it will be deleted from TW2 folder - but you can copy it back in. Should work and net you the achievement. Maybe. Hehe, at any rate, I have the retail copy, and no interest in 'cheating' the difficulty anyhow, so I won't be testing this.

Which, while clean and elegant, is really rather ridiculous. Origins did it right.

What did it do right exactly? Nightmare doesn't force you to restart. Are you just trolling?

@Boiny Bunny  The easiest way I can think of is using a trainer and well that really would take the fun away from Witcher 2's difficulty.

Didn't read far enough back, my bad. Thought you were talking about the save system overall.

EDIT: Ringo, did you just comment on my profile when you have me blocked? Very classy.

They plan on releasing a DLC that's one-use only that allows you to play even if you die on Insane.

I thought that was a joke actually.
