I bought a digital on steam, I heard users there were having it easier. I have windows visa,32 with a geforce 5900 video card. Now I am at the blood curse and I cant get past the part where King does the ritual and loops itself. It is not auto patching and it wont let me download it.
I was thinking of buying the boxed one, since it seems easier to download the patch that was a really bad bug and the game should not have released with that bug pervents you from gong forth.

How long is one solid playthrough, taking your time?
Just finished my 1st playthrough clocked in at 52 hours according to Steam. I reached lvl 35 as i scoured every nook and cranny for side quests. This thread is an interesting read btw.
Spoiler
- My Geralt sided with Iorveth at the insistence of Zoltan, left Philippa to rot in the dungeon and broke Triss out.
Killed Saskia and Letho.
Starting playthrough 2 expecting it to be round the 40-45 hour mark now that i know where im going until i hit chapter 2 of course..choosing Roche instead this time.
All i can say is what a game, the number of choices is overwhelming at times. Happy witchering

I bailed on my first run siding with Iorveth. This time I'm siding with Roche, and holy crap the game is just completely different. Awesome. I like Roche.

So Rage's doin ISANE, huh?
Have you guys seen the tees for CE edition owners (that got problems at launch - as a compensation for all the trouble)? Rebel, Patriot and Assassin t-shirts are awesome, I'd buy them all
And last minute news - a game edition that comes with a pendant from Polish MediaMarkt:

Absolutely amazing. The level of detail in the environment has not been seen before and the choices you make alter the game like very few other RPGs.
I felt the final Act was a bit rushed, but overall, tied with Origins (though in a different way, Origins doesn't have action combat - and I prefer it that way) as the best RPG I've played since BG2.
Pros:
- amazing graphics, amazing details
- a living world, I felt a part of it unlike any other game I've ever played (including Everquest I
- choice matter... and boy, do they matter
- I thought the voice acting was very good, especially Roche and Geralt
- quests that matter... very few "MMO style" quests that have been popular recently in certain games
- game treats me like an adult... I had to learn, adjust, explore, improve
- Elven Garden scene. Nicely done, especially the dwarf hearing things
- good story, kept me interested the whole time even though I didn't play TW1 and have no knowledge of its lore
- the "greyness" of the characters and the "greyness" of the world
- details, details, details.... tripping over a bucker while sneaking and getting caught because of it? Pure gold there
- I liked Geralt... for a 3rd person RPG, it kept me in it a lot more than usually
- CDPR put their souls into this, it's uncompromising in its intent, love it
Cons:
- godawful save system... unless I'm mistaking, I got 5 GB of saved games... seriously... ><
- "secret" targeting system... took me ages to figure out how to stick to a mob...
- no playable companions (hey, I grew up on BW's RPGs)
- Act 3 felt rushed... I don't mind being set up for an expansion, as most loose ends were in fact tied up, at least what matter to me as Geralt as priorities (Triss, Letho, etc.) - it just felt short, especially compared to Acts 1 and 2
Overall: 9.5 / 10
...
Amazing game. And even though I prefer non-action combat, the living world, exploration, meaningful quests, deep characters and choices that matter definitely make it on par with Origins as the best I've played since BG2, like I said.
Now then, for a second playthrough, siding with Iorveth, WTB Saskia!

[Core 2 indicates that it's a 64 bit processor that could well be single core. That particular model is dual core though but you'd have to look it up in Intel's processor database]
I suspect that TW2 graphics look a lot better than they actually are (e.g. hand animations and water aren't terribly good but quite well hidden). Interestingly though TW2 runs perfectly fine with my GTS240 on high (sluggish, but playable, on ultra) whilst DA2 is only playable with minimal graphics settings. If I had to make a guess I'd say that TW2 uses resources more efficiently than DA2 (e.g. 4/8 logical cores busy).
So it's more CPU, than GPU, intensive?
My PC runs DA2 on 'high' (mostly, I even have the high res textures), and while I do get frame rate drops/stuttering, it's not as bad as what I get for TW2 (which is all on low/disabled, except for dangling objects limit and the DoF options. I do have texture memory on Large...which I should do, since my GPU has 2GB of memory, right?).
My specs:
CPU: P4 3GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
GPU: Inno3D 430 GT 2GB
OS: WinXP SP2
It's a bit of both. They recommend a quad core as the game is supposed to utilize them as it processes new areas by pieces with multiple cores, thats why you may be getting more of a performance hit. Duo core is a minimum requirment. Glad you can run it a bit at least. And yes depending on your memory size on the card you can set the textures to large. But there is quite a bit of bottlenecking you will be getting in a couple places unfortunately so I'm not sure how it will utilize your memory.

(Spoilers ahead)
I enjoyed the last confrontation with Letho. It was an odd combination of camaraderie and bitter rivalry. Old buddies that knew this wouldn't end well, good graces aside. I know you can let him walk, but in my mind, i felt letting him go after all Geralt had gone through to get there, was something he simply couldn't do. It had to end then and there.
Felt like a Snake vs Ocelot moment, honestly. I loved it.

I've already done this part before, and I just let the bastard get what's coming to him, but is there actually any real way to concretely prove he was the one who poisoned Saskia?

Acer Aspire 8935G
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.1 GHz, 800MHz FSB
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670
Up to 2254MB Hypermemory
4GB Ram
So not made for this game. Medium settings work (With occasional stutters), but anything above that........

There are ways, yup. I bungled it up the first time & damn, did I regret it in Act III.

I'd say my biggest complaint is not enough monster hunting. I am slightly disappointed the tiny number of mini bosses (I couldn't bring myself to kill any trolls) and variety of bestiary. I'd gladly pay for DLC to add more unique monster hunts off the beaten path.
I agree. There are very few types of monsters compared to the first game.

Your computer is too slow/old to play this game at the best settings.
This is how PC gaming works.

There's a hostile troll in act II somewhere in the canyons. He is easy to miss though.slimgrin wrote...

And I disagree about the few monster types.
By my calculation, in witcher 1 there were around 23 monster types, excluding their mutations (like Drowned Dead and Drowners)
In Witcher 2 there are around 15 but the game is significantly shorter.

I agree as well. After you get past Act 1 you usually only run into Rotfiends and Harpies.
There isn't even really a proper Drowner spawn point in the game. I was happy to encounter Gargoyles in Act 3 since they were so much different from other creatures (the groundslam is a nice affect)...but then that is pretty much all you encounter in Act 3.
The fact that the game doesn't have ANY vampires to speak of was disconcerting. I was hoping for a Bruxa fight during the Succubus quest, and while I did enjoy tapping goat leg ass, it would have been nice to encounter the Bruxa with the current graphics. Hopefully DLC will add more into the game.
I'd trade any number of miniboss monsters from the first game for the Kayren and Draug encoutners. Honestly those guys make up for the lack of boss-monsters, since they are great epic encounters.

Me too! And I miss those dark crypts where my blood would freeze and give me goosebumps. Alps, Bruxae, Graveirs, Ghouls, Alghouls, Fleders, Garkains... brrrrr...
