TW2 does have some (obvious) flaws  - the rushed Act 3 for example, but overall, outside of Origins, I can't think of any RPG on par with it since BG2/KOTOR.

Personally, I don't think BG2 or Kotor hold a candle to TW2 simply on the basis of fun combat that is a great straddling-of-the-fence between a number crunching game and player skill.

Yeah, TW2 combat is fun but IMO it needs better balancing, I started another playthrough where I'm not using Quen or Yrden, it is significantly harder, although I'm trying to make better use of potions and bombs this time too.

But I agree, it is nice to play an RPG and choose abilities that YOU think are cool and not totally end up at the mercy of  a RNG.

I remember spending 4 hours in TW1 grinding enemies in the catacombs by the fields to get max level

I started the Witcher 2 with 60 orens.

If you all want a hard playthrough level up Alchemy...I hope CDProjekt fixes it up a bit it's nowhere near as fun as Magic or Swordsmanship imo. Though I do love bombs.

Bombs are fun, I never leveled up alcehmy but I did have to pot up on Tawny Owl and Swallow for a good amount of times.

That's a good point, why did it make a big boom?  The ceiling collapses it's such a big boom!  I don't think oil explodes like that...  So the question is, what was really in those barrels?  Maybe we're going to start seeing gunpowder weapons make an appearance soon?  (The game seems to be set in the late middle ages after all, 1400s due to the appearance of full plate armour which only made an appearance as we know it towards the end of the middle ages around the same time the arquebus appeared).

Well Geralt can make bombs that explode. Grapeshot comes to mind. Maybe it just happened to have all that the ingredients in one place stockpiled and add a little fire...boom. Righ right right?

Act 3 may be a little short but it is not rushed. I got a nice closure from it and great wish for what's next.

I hear people saying that their imported saves from TW1 gave them lots of Orens at the start. I have some 14,000 orens in my save and I'm always starting with 200 orens. Is that right? grrrr

I had like 30k Orens and remember not having much to spend.

@javierabegazo3 hours?! And you managed to get the Heliotrop sign. I know the enemies don't give much experience...damn:mellow:

It doesn't take that long at all to get Heliotrope. Really, at the least,  you could have the Heliotrope sign by Level 7 if you rush.

^ You need to put (I think 7) points into training before magic, sword or alchemy can unlock so you can't get access to Heliotrop until mid teens at the earliest.

I read that Destructoid review of TW2 and was pretty outraged the way it reviewed DA2 vs TW2.

The Destructoid review was done by a troll called Jim Sterling, he does it on purpose. I don't remember what he said about DA2 but I personally hated the game.

The only way you started TW2 with 30k orens, is if your TW1 save had a cheated number of orens, like over 300,000 at least in TW1. I cheated my 40k oren save to 999,999 and TW2 gave me 100,000 orens to start with.

You're going Insane diff? =)

Yeah, I have this nasty habit of starting video games on their hardest difficulty possible :P My first playthrough of ME2 was as my canon femshep Adept. I *hated* the collectorship that first time around :P

Just as a warning, if you die on Hardcore or whatever, you can no longer load saves by that character since putting it there. It's a permadeath mode.

I meant I had 30k in my Witcher 1 save.

Insane is the permadeath mode btw. I know you love ME2 Javier Insane is a different beast.

6 points required in Training to unlock other trees. Meaning Level 7.

------------------

Rushing through act 1 Easy to fight the Kayran at Insane again, doing the same route as previous Insane run interrupted. Can't help but LMAO at finding Draug Armor Diagram in Nekker's cave. Now I only need a Draug in act 1! =)))

I just got to chapter 2, started out on Hardcore, and I've been slaying Harpies left and right getting practice with Heliotrope. The beginning of Chapter 2 had me sit up straight in my seat it was so cool.

The only fight that really pissed me off was the Kayran fight. That was the only time I felt like thrashing my computer.

The fight with Letho on the other hand, was extremely fun, and was challenging in the good way

Cheater.. You can't get Heliotrope sign just at the beginning of Chapter 2.

Lol, I actually have no idea how to cheat on TW2 yet. The only thing I've done that would be considered "cheating" is I took the mod that lowers the weight of the crafting diagrams.

No, I actually spent like 3 hours grinding in the waterfall cave in Chapter 1 outside of Flotsam because I wanted to get used to the new combat mechanics and get a perfect control over combat mobility. And I ofcourse did every sidequest.

But yeah, I spent a ton of time on Chapter 1 just wandering the forest killing every creature in sight and then selling all the lesser mutagens and nekker alchemy items for gold.

yeah, no cheating was involved to get heliotrope. I'm only level 18

I usually end Act 1 at 17, very close to 18. Quite possible indeed. As for "hunting" .. good places are river sides and river beds and the swamps during the night and revisiting them at the day or vice versa. Many creatures lurk about only at night. Including a misterious ghost that none have been able to asnwer my question about it. Of course, caves too.

Been playing the game for a few days now and am loving it but the combat has me a bit jaded, mostly due to the fact that my build sucks. I invested heavily on swords but I've come to realize that hitting stuff just doesn't cut it. I often find myself kiting around and spamming Igni but it works kinda slowly...

I'm going to fumble through my Scoi'atel playthrough with this poorly designed Witcher and then start a playthrough with Roche.

Is alchemy tree really as useless as it seems? So far I've really struggled with Lehto and Kaedweni (?) general battles. So how would upgraded dodge etc. work with alchemy? Or am I better off with just investing heavily on signs and only picking some sword stuff for backup?

I have noticed that the game involves a lot of situations where you simply fall into battle after a cut scene so drinking potions is a no no. And bombs are on an item number...

Yeah I know, I beat Dead Space 2 twice on Hardcore, the mode where you can only save 3 times in the whole game and aside from those 3 saves, the only check point you get is when you switch discs.
I enjoy games where the damage is realistic. I like that on TW2 any old enemy has the potential to kill me if I'm not careful

Huh? Swords is the best tree I think...put points in roll distance increase and it will work well.

Oh and use Quen.

How far are you in the Swordsmanship tree? The Adrenaline skill (which allows group finishers) combined with upgraded Quen is pretty much unbeatable.

I've got the group finisher stuff and it does work well once I actually get the adrenaline. Might be an equipment update failure as well since I've pretty much fumbled through the story without actually paying much attention to character development and gear upgrades. I do have upgraded Quen too. With the bosses I probably failed at not having upgraded dodge. I did well for a time but then I just ended up being stun locked. Kaedweni general battle fealt particulaly frustrating with my pathetic mobility. And having to repeat the pre-battling and cut scenes every single time.

With several enemies parrying a lot I probably just fail at not being patient enough :P I cut monsters into tiny bits but those damn soldiers with shields ****** me off. I just hit'n'run them one by one by first stunning with Aard or maybe Incinerating with Igni (doesn't work nearly as well as it did in TW1) and doing a quick sword hit before moving to safety.

Need to ditch some stuff like dagger throwing and focus on getting Quen and dodge up early next time. I would've been interested in a rangerish-type Witcher focusing on potions, bombs and daggers but Signs are just so much more convienent.
