Been playing the game for a few days now and am loving it but the combat has me a bit jaded, mostly due to the fact that my build sucks. I invested heavily on swords but I've come to realize that hitting stuff just doesn't cut it. I often find myself kiting around and spamming Igni but it works kinda slowly...

I'm going to fumble through my Scoi'atel playthrough with this poorly designed Witcher and then start a playthrough with Roche.

Is alchemy tree really as useless as it seems? So far I've really struggled with Lehto and Kaedweni (?) general battles. So how would upgraded dodge etc. work with alchemy? Or am I better off with just investing heavily on signs and only picking some sword stuff for backup?

I have noticed that the game involves a lot of situations where you simply fall into battle after a cut scene so drinking potions is a no no. And bombs are on an item number...

You can go heavy with swords, but upgrade your Quen sign first, actually I upgrade it before I even invest into swords, 2 quen upgrades plus 2 upgrades to the Quen damage multiple foe reflection and you are on fairly easy mode playing on normal.
The damage reflected is rather huge and often it will deal as much if not more total damage then your sword.

Anyone done the Eternal Battle quest? I'm not sure if it's on Ioverth's path but when you finally enter the mist and participate in the battle, I love the opening cutscene.

"It's warm"
"It's autumn, I bet the fruit is plentiful today"
"We won't be the ones picking it"
"You'll be picking enemy heads today"
"No reason to wait! Slaughter the Kaedweni mutts!"
"Wait! The time's not right"
"Sometimes I forget what we're fighting for"
"Powerful kings have no choice but to wage wars"
"Then why don't Demavend and Henselt duel to settle things?!?"
"My brother-in-law is from Kaedwen, a decent fellow"
"Once I was at the market there, quality goods - cheaper than the merchants' too"
"Bloody hell, shut it! Every Kaedweni is a bastard! Do you know what they'll do to our women if we lose this battle?!"

Thanks, I'll be sure to take that route on my next playthrough. Seems that I also need to tweak my computer's performance a bit. Defending Vergen was a bit hard with around 14FPS. Made Geralt's combat actions a bit erratic <_<

Your next playthrough really should try out magic. It's so strong!

If you all want a hard playthrough level up Alchemy...I hope CDProjekt fixes it up a bit it's nowhere near as fun as Magic or Swordsmanship imo. Though I do love bombs.

I'm going with alchemy. While I don't feel they've nerfed it compared to the first game, the inventory makes it a hassle. And I'm a big fan of bombs myself.

Yeah, it's the same on Roche's path.  Though it stinks you can't save for about 10 minutes preceeding the fight with the the draugir (the big wood-fire golem).

I replayed that sequence about 15 times until I beat that guy!

You never needed the DVD to run it in the first place. Just to install.

Finally finished, work pulling me away from the game. With Witcher 1, I did another playthrough to kinda perfect the story I wanted, but with this...damn....I think I'll hold onto my first completion as my canon import for Witcher 3.

*spoiler*
For some reason when I decided to kill Letho, and ended up doing it, I felt torn between a need to resolve his actions, and a bit of sadness about taking down a former colleague because of unfortunate circumstances with the Wild Hunt and all. Great feeling though, felt no joy while fighting him and when I killed him. Good bittersweet ending.

Question for all you Witcher fans. I am thinking about buying the Witcher 2 for the pc, but i was wondering if I should wait for a new Nvidia driver or patch before i play? I heard of a lot of people having some performance problems.

I read that Destructoid review of TW2 and was pretty outraged the way it reviewed DA2 vs TW2.

That review is just terrible and he gave Modern Warfare 2 a 9.5. I could care less what he thinks.

There'll always be magazine reviewers that either have agendas or simply aren't that much into RPGs.

Or, the younger crowd reviews, which are more used to instant gratification, and are appalled that you die in a game without adjusting strategy and improving your tactics.

The game IS receiving general critical acclaim, great user ratings and has sold 220k units in the first week (nearly topping DA2 PC sales after 10 weeks).

TW2 does have some (obvious) flaws  - the rushed Act 3 for example, but overall, outside of Origins, I can't think of any RPG on par with it since BG2/KOTOR.

Act 3 and epilogue seemed awfully short... but then I heard that this is because they're going to add a huge expansion in stead of small DLCs. I expect that expansion will pick up where chapter 3/epilog left off: a major war incoming, the wild hunt and memory situation still unfinished, etc. I just hope it comes soon, cause daaaang, I want more!

=)

It's sort of a mixed bag thing. A lot of people are having problems and waiting for drivers be it ATI or Nvdiai and well a lot of people are just fine.

Ati has said
@CatalystCreator Andrew D
Update - we will have Brink and Witcher 2 hotfix driver released this week. (hoping in the next couple of days). Stay tuned.

So this week, we will have patch from CDP and drivers for ATI. "

Nvidia no clue. I'm one of the lucky ones who have absolutely no problem with the game. I'm playing with almost everything up except Ubersampling, SSAO, Shadows and Cinematic depth of field. I'm get a comfortable 30 fps with a
