From what I saw, some people criticize the concept.  Even if it was free, why even make it DLC if you already have the broken bridge, the troll models (used in Act 2), and the quest settings.  It felt like somebody removed the quest at the last minute.  Perception is key.

I think the only reason CDPJ got away with little criticism was because they have so-called "indie cred" (we're not the big bad mega-corp), and because people liked the other elements of the game.  Rest assured, if Bioware or another major company did it, I'll bet there'd have been more criticism of it.

Hmm let me see....

Other then all the preorder bonus crap let's take a look at how Bioware likes to milk the fans.

Mass Effect 2

Arrival -  560 Points
Shadow Broker - 800
Kasumi - 560
Project Overlord - 560
Firepower Pack - 160
Equalizer Pack - 160
Aegis Pack - 160
Appearance Pack x2 - 320

Total - 3280 Points.
$45 because of the damn point system. I'm not arguing that all the dlc is needed or bad. I really do like the ME2 dlc but Bioware is big unlike CDProjekt they can easily afford to give at least all the non-mission dlc away. Especially considering with the firepower pack you'll never need another weapon or the Aegis Pack you won't need another armor.

Dragon Age 2.

All-class Item Pack - 400
The Exiled Prince - 560
The Black Emporium - 800

Total - 1760 points
Black Emporium being the only way to respec and offering the best stuff in the game and giving us a mabari companion. Exiled Prince clearly felt like he was supposed to be apart of the game. At least in ME2 the Kasumi and Zaeed didn't have dialogue the same way Miranda or Tali did so it didn't feel like they were just ripped out of the game. Sebastian though he has normal dialogue during the game, he talks about some quests like any other character yet it costs $7?

Dragon Age Origins

The Golems of Amgarrak- 400
Witch Hunt - 560
Leliana's Song - 560
The Darkspawn Chronicles - 400
Feastday Combo Pack - 240
Return to Ostagar - 400
The Stone Prisoner - 1200
Warden's Keep - 560

Total. 4320 points.

Other then that ALL of dlc for Dragon Age seem to be really bad except Shale, who again felt like Sebastian. It was pretty expensive for the crap content. Darkspawn Chronicles? Adds absolutely nothing to the game. We don't see what happens if the darkspawn succeed. There was a mod out way before that did a much better job at the same thing. Witch Hunt added nothing. It was all repeated content and Morrigan appeared for like 5 minutes of dialogue and didn't answer anything. Leliana Song was enjoyable but very short and used a lot of the same areas over again. Felt rushed. Return to Ostagar enjoyable but still too much combat and not enough dialogue and the only BIG thing is getting to leave Cailan's body to the darkspawn. Warden's Keep takes maybe half hour to hour tops. The keep doesn't add anything to the game and was the only way to get a chest on the console version of the game so people actually bought it because they want the chest.

CDProjekt however, has gave us The Witcher Enhanced Edition for free to fix a lot of bugs in The Witcher 1. For free I might add. Witcher 2 has given us free Troll Trouble, Barbershop and all the preorder bonuses. If you felt it wasn't necesarry doesn't matter you didn't pay for it so at least you don't feel compelled to do it. Indie cred has nothing to do with it.

But Ciri (Yennefer not necessarily) must return in Witcher3 or i'll rage CDP forum. xD

Heh. I want Ciri as well. I think the expression on Roche's face if he found out who she really is would be PIRCELESS.

BIG MASSIVE SPOILERS. ( Seriously don't even glance at the post if you don't want them.)

Ciri is the daughter of the Emperor of Nilgaard. I know I said it before, but eh...

Spoiler End.

Doesn't make a bean of difference since I already responded to you about your initial comment.

This reply of mine was in response to Ery not you personally.

While you guys keep discussing it, I'll keep playing it! =)

SPOILERIFIC SPOILER ALERT

The Witcher 2 - SPOILER ALERT - Act 1 Final - Brothers in Arms Posted Image

Well, one of the many possible endings for Act 1 anyway. This is my favorite!

And now back reading what I missed in the few hours I "meditated". It's so cool to have Jan around here. And yes, there is one MAJOR flaw on the Tutorial of TW2: The note saying that all Tutorial panels information can be reviewed in the Journal is, well, IN THE JOURNAL. Do you really expect people to open the Journal and read it, expontaneously? Without a Big Flashing Arrow over some NPC head saying "Did you read your journal today?" ;)

But in spite of it all the reception around the world is great, and proves you can really make games you would love to play, challenge yourself as a developer (instead of just sticking to some "success formula"), and challenge your players as well. In the end we want an RPG to be a rewarding experience (story and gameplay-wise). Reward you do not work for is not actually a reward after all, is it?

Yea it's nice to hear your company acknowledges some of the problems unlike someone else recently, ehem.
Mostly stick to your guns though and keep focus groups away from your projects, nothing guarantees mediocrity faster then a focus group. Yes the doors do slam in your face a bit often when you are in a hurry.
Targeting worked fine for me, except that once in a while my Geralt would lock to the enemy behind him. My only big gripe with the combat is that it can take to long to cast a spell, I have to mash the "q" button a couple times to make sure it's done asap, same with rolls once in a while.

But the inventory, yikes, it's messy, there is no way to know what books you already read or to organize the items(there is a mod on witcher nexus that helps), but it should be fixed. Also the alchemy scereen needs better logic, sometimes it tries to use quest or rare items for potions, I thought it would have been so much better if it auto used the items you have the most in your possesion.

As far as story telling I like that you dont hand everything on a silver plate and kill any mystery around it, leave it for later I dont need my hand held, there is enough information in the game to know whats going on.

Now keep making the games you love to play, because I like to play what you guys play. Cheers.

One thing I think this game needs though is a vacation from the main plot after the upper Aedirn conflict like in chapter four of the original game, a little breathing room and a chance to explore both the central character and the world. I liked and admired the Witcher throughout the first three chapters but I fell in love with it in Murky Waters.

Couldn't agree with you more. While I like how the plot picks up at the end of chapter 2 , more diversions along the way would be welcome. Murky waters was my favorite chapter in TW1.

Same thing here... I could just sit by the lake and listen to the theme, amazing theme btw, for hours!

Yohko ~Let those who are coming in from the cold speak for themselves don't 'guess' what they want or need especially since your not in that category.

Ah, but I was cold in "TW1".

Debating can be done without first hand knowledge of things. Part of my job is usability for software and I try to make sure I think about the novice when designing web interfaces for people.

I feel like you are telling me to "shut up" because you seem to be afraid people will "listen to me" and make changes, or you just don't want to hear contrary opinions. But at the end of the day, each person gets one vote, and it's up to the game developers to take all these opinions into account.

No I'm telling you that your speaking for people who never asked you too and might not feel the same way you do in that regard you should stop assuming what they need or want. Speak for yourself and only yourself.
"Ah but I was in TW1" has no relevance to TW2. By all means speak about how you came in from the cold in TW1 but do not speak about coming in from the cold in TW2 when you never did. Point is your speaking for not just one vote your making the claim your speaking for everyone else who comes in from the cold about what they need or want or more accurately what you 'think" they want or need.

I'm "coming in cold" and what Yohko says is right. I haven't played TW1, and couldn't bother with the books, so TW2 really should make more effort to familiarise people with its world.

This is different than something like the Batman world or the Spiderman world, which are essentially like ours are, politically and otherwise, except for a few stylistic differences (noir) or historical differences (speedy mutations).

I agree with Yohko, the world does need to be introduced in more breadth and depth than what it currently is. I've also stated that, OTOH, it's nice to not have everything laid befor you, so that the setting stays "fresh" for longer.

Go ahead and speak for me, Yohko. :D

Hmm.. you're just like her second account or something, until you register a game here! :P

Heheh. :D After a crazy Facebook ordeal I had to suffer through 2 years ago, websites get absolutely as little information about me as possible.

I find myself wishing for a mod that allows for passage between Vergen and the army camp. And I really want Act 3 DLC before I play again. Ooh it's going to be a long wait. If ever :(

Please, please Jan-- please make some Act 3 DLC!!!

It is good to hear that you have acknowledged the few faults that were in the TW2 rather marginalising them, like some others have done. Firstly I loved TW2, and despite not having played TW1 I didn't have any trouble following the story line, and the backstory and lore was, by and large explained very well in the dialogue and the Journal entries which really kept me engaged.

The story line was bloody good, whilst the politics and the mature nature of the content was handed really well.
As others have said, please, please, please don't dumb down the game because some individuals are simply too stupid to adapt to the game's demands by complaining it is too hard, yet these same people will refuse to play on easy until they grasp how it works.

With regards to fixing the game rather than changing it, I do find it reassuring, particularly with what was said in the hidden message in TW2 trailer. Hopefully you will not compromise any future games and stick to what you think works best for the type of game you want to make, rather than some vain attempt to appeal to everyone, which usually blows up in the developer's face.

Tutorial:
I didn't have any problem with this as the manual gave me everything I needed to know, I suppose it could have been included in something like a seperate in game log whilst you played, but not a big issue.
Targeting:
Geralt wouldn't always lock on to the selected enemy, but it didn't happen that often, the same with interacting with some objects, doors, climbing ladders etc. were a little clunky at times. Particularly when I was following Zoltan at one point and the doors kept closing in my face, which I then had to open again.
Combat:
Wasn't as responsive as it could have been, eg: sometimes when casting a spell or parrying it didn't always do so properly, leading me to press it repeatedly sometimes.
Inventory:
Initially I like the amount of information the game gives you, to it's credit it doesn't simplify things, which is great!
But, the tools used to sort through the items are too simple. I was unable to organise items and note which books I read etc. Alchemy, as others have said needs some work as it tries to use rare or quest items rather than common ones.

All in all the game was fantastic, I found it refreshing that it did not spoon feed you and punished the player when they tried to take on dozens of enemies at the same time, whilst the story was certainly top notch and wasn't afraid to delve into some complex politics and very mature topics.

Bravo.

Edit: "ploughing" may have been used a tad too much, particularly among the peasants, I 'm all for swearing within the game if it emphasises the ignorant uncouth nature of the common folk, It wasn't a big problem, rather a minor niggle. Although one of my favourite lines was "plough the lilies"

He was talking about perception. And right now the perception is that CDP "cares" more about their customers.

And a lot of people DO think CDP is an independent company fighting the big guys. I recall you yourself saying you were going to buy multiple copies.

At least I remember it being you, it could have just been someone with your avatar.

A couple of Geralt of Rivia/Witcher questions:

How old is Geralt and how long do witchers live for before they start to decline physically? I'm curious because when Geralt suggests he'll wait until Cedric is sober, Cedric retorts that with his mutations he might live long enough to do so. As to his age I would guess late 30s to early 50s but I'm not sure if this is covered in the lore.

How superhuman are witchers? They don't get sick, are fairly resistant to poisons, heal quickly and have very fast reflexes, but how strong are they? It seems like a human arm wrestling a witcher would be a very bad idea from some of his fights. If Geralt could cut through the Kayran's tentacle in 3 or 4 sword strikes, I would guess an arm wresting match would be reminiscent of the arm wrestling match in Cronenberg's the Fly remake.

Sapkowski has confirmed during the book series Geralt was around 60 years old.

Witchers are fairly strong, but they are not invincible, as you can see with the case of the witchers of the Viper and that one witcher whose name I can't remember from TW1.

I suspect Geralt taking down the Kayran was mostly due to his weaponry. All monsters in the Witcher world are weakened by silver. Not to say his mutations and mutagens didn't help, but I suspect the silver sword did atleast 40% of the work.

I just love how Pinkie Pie is Letho and Trixie is Vernon Roche, epic stuff right there.
