Extra Credits - Our Oscars

What would TW2 win?

Best Story and Best Environment Design.

Have to wait for ESV and check what it can offer.

Skyrim?

No way it's beating TW2 out of Best Story.

Although Deus Ex might just.

Well so far from what I have played in Deus Ex it's about a some group have attacked a company who makes augs or something like that. But obviously the more I played the more we find it out nothing should be taken at face value. But I agree no way will Skyrim get best story.

As for environments? We'll see. Oblivion wasn't great after all. If the different regions are infact different enough and offer a lot of variety unlike Oblivion then I'd say Skyrim deserves it. After all Elder Scrolls is the sandbox.  Still Witcher 2 does have some amazingly detailed environments.

If Deus Ex turns out to be CoD-in-the-future (i.e. It's the Middle Easterners! No, it's the Russians! Haha, tricked you again, it's the English!), I'm going to be very disappointed. The antagonist switcheroo is really stale at this point.

I am very impressed by Skyrim's environments, though. I managed to play Oblivion for about 10 hours but then just gave up on it because it felt empty and pointless. I hope Skyrim doesn't do the same thing. It would be like dating a model; except without even all the good parts of dating a model.

I'm thinking of doing my first play through of this game on insane. Is that crazy?

Doubt you'd get out of the prologue. Good luck though. It is "insane".

Spoilers about Insane

Do NOT attempt to get arrested in ACT 3 if you take the Iorveth path. I died due to a bug, when it is of course supposed to go to a cutscene ala Object Rho from Arrival. I got the cutscene, and the death screen at the same time.

Do not. I repeat, DO NOT do it. Instead, go through the sewers (which causes its own problems, as youknowwho is down there, and is very hard).

Note: I am playing on hard, but I don't want anyone to pull out their hair as a result of a bug on insane. It worked the first time I did the mission, but the second time it bugged out. I wouldn't take any chances.

Do yourself a favor and download the Deus Ex leak. It's not a must buy for me. I went through the whole thing and didn't kill a single npc.

That depends, you will rely a lot on range combat through bombs and daggers especially in the beginning of the game, you will also be needing approiate potions like Virga but later there are only few battles that can be very hard like some bosses and harpy queen (if you don't know which paths you will get stucked in).

BTW, Go for it because it's challenging and lots of fun. Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Agree Witcher 2 have very amazingly detailed environments... if only it could have bigger worlds like Skyrim. I had hope to have more sidequests bigger world to explore in TW3

A friend is downloading it in lieu of me. Will see what it does for me this weekend. I don't mind non-violent games, in principle; non-violence is usually badly implemented, though. I got good vibes off it; but that was before I considered things like story.

I just finished The Claws of Madness quest again. If they do DLC, I hope it includes more dungeons like that one. The lighting and atmosphere are simply amazing.

No Insane for me. :P

Gonna go for Hard next time, with Swordsmanship build and probably Roche path.
(so far both playthroughs have been on normal, one Swords, one Magic)

After 2 playthroughs, I have to give props to CDPR for the sheer epicness of the story design, and that they were prepared to let you choose so much - and SOOO many different people can end up SOOO differently - and they weren't afraid of adapting to your choices in the sequel.

If you've all not tried this yet, it's really worth another full playthrough-- attempt to play the game as a trapper.

It is amazing.

There's nothing quite like laying 30 snares in a nekker cavern, hoping that you don't get jumped before you can finish setting the scene. The slow pace really lends itself to TW2's atmosphere. Having to take your time lets the world impress itself on you.

Ha. I leave a lot of traps my only problem with traps it's very hard to get enough amount of oil to make some of the really fun traps. I spent a couple of hours farming rotfiends just to make a bunch of conflaguration and talgars winter traps. Also given how easy I can kill enemies now traps seem kind of like overkill.  Jan Bartkowicz should tell that to CDPR >.>

My tips, based on what's worked for me, twice (I'm on Act 2 on second Insane run atm): Get Quen 2 ASAP, get reduced to 100% from backstacks i/o 200% next. Always have Quen up! Potions with side-effect are useless if you're not an alchemist. Use Axii a lot. Battles like Melitele, Harpy Queen and some others... prepare the terrain first with Conflagration on the perimiter and lots of Snares and Crawlers in between. Do NOT use finisher on Draugirs when crossing the Mist the first time, as it tends to put Geralt out of the protective shield when it comes up again. And of course, do not pick defying dialogue options that will get you killed right away! Red Haze is cool too!

And the most important thing, since good ol'Diablo 2 hardcore days... STAY ALIVE! :)

The Witcher 2 was amazing. I just finished two playthroughs on Iorveth's paths. Haven't tried Roche's path yet. I rarely used Quen that much though, my tactics have always been rolling away when the enemy charges at you and pick them off one by one. Further strengthening the mutations also help (can't remember the skill in Alchemy that do this). Staying alive is hard when the enemies swarm you in packs like a Zerg rush. I hate the Harpies cause they punish you if they surrounds you. Instant death for me haha. Overall the environment in TW2 and its totally different approach depending on your choice makes it a great game.

Love the lighting in the game. Especially during that small dungeon. It really looks great. I just finished Little Sisters myself. Holy hell I failed! Now that was an awesome sidequest!

But I agree more dungeons like Claw of Madness but well bigger and more challenging.

So i just started my third playthrough on Hard and the first thing that i noticed was the difficulty. This is my first playthrough since Steam updated users with the patch, am i missing something or did CDPR nerf the difficulty to hell and back?
All of the soldiers died like flies and im even considering restarting on insane although i can imagine that ending badly if im at 46 hours played and then die. So has anyone else noticed this?
On my 2nd playthrough it was also easier but this was because of experience with the game mechanics, i also played this through on hard.

Prologue has been made easier, to some extend. they still hit hard but they die faster now.

i loved this better than the first game, but the first 1 story was better as number 2 is really short. and i liked that in the first 1 u can check what ingredients u need for certain things like potions. you could also drink potions anytime in the first 1 and in number 2 u have to meditate to drink. But the battle is better the graphics are better, but you would hit random targets too

Can someone help me with the Harpy contract? How on earth do we use the traps? Leave them around a nest when there's no harpy near because I killed them all to get there? heh I got 1/7 nests but I really don't know how I did it.

Guide says to use "firefly" bombs... I used some dancing stars from a higher spot while left 2 traps set near the quarry.. I have no idea which nest I got destroyed. There was still one trap back at the quarry when I got back there, couldn't find the other but the nest where I set that seems intact... grrr.. I'm too old for this... =)

Set up traps and get the attention of harpies and then run back and trap them (you must lure them NOT kill them, so reload to a earlier save).
