I was actually a little surprised that The Witcher II doesn't support DX11, with it being a cRPG, and the fact that DX11 has been available since 2009.

That is disappoint

Ugh.You people able to read the whole TW saga are fortunate indeed.Just finished reading Blood of elves(loved it)and thought Id order the next books in the series, but alas, Times of contempt not translated into english or any other language im able to understand decently.Well, thats fine, blood of elves was published in english a while ago so the next one must be right around the corner...Estimated release date:May 2012 :pinched:.

After reading this, all my technical concerns about the game are put to rest. Even the DRM isn't bad.

I found it really odd that CD Projekt made a big deal out of releasing a non-DRM version. Seems like they are inviting piracy and since almost every other PC game comes with DRM, it's not like there were droves of customers who weren't going to buy the game if it had some kind of DRM.

Even forgetting about games, when was the last time you bought any kind of $40 software app that didn't have some form of DRM?

I tend to buy most of my games on Steam and I have absolutely no problem with Steamworks DRM.

Its an incentive to buy from gog.com I suppose, but in the end, does DRM really help that much against piracy?I can see it being helpful in a multiplayer game to keep the pirates from flooding the servers, but in a single player game it doesnt seem to reduce piracy one way or another as long as there are people willing to upload cracked software.I agree though its very unconventional.

With that said,I really, really hope their DRM free campaign doesnt end up biting them in the ass.Not only would I hate to see a superb game like TW2  flop because people are too damn cheap to pay for their products, but then bigname publishers like Ubisoft will get a chance to say "See,our extremely tedious DRM are needed!" <_<.

I for one can't wait to play on the hardest difficulty. It's going to be amazing, annoying, frustrating and challenging. I like games that challenge me.

Games are quite lacking these days in that regard...I've heard that even Elite soldiers can be challenging...

I love a bit of challenge in games aswell, but I think I might have to settle for hard in this case (well, for 1st few playthroughs atleast...).The concept for insane seems pretty cool and I dont mind the idea of the difficulty, but rather the technical side of things. The thought of dieing because of a game crash or some other technical error when youre late in the game sounds like something that might get really old really fast :P.

Well hopefully the game is not buggy as DA2 is now. I still crash on a regular basis.

I beat Diablo 2 twice on Hell difficulty...took me somewhere around 253 times between my two characters.

Dragon Age 2 I first beat it on Nightmare as a mage. It was fun but now it's kinda easy with the added danger of having to restart Witcher 2 I know i'll be scared to do a lot of stuff which makes it much more fun!

I don't know about you but if Witcher 2 Insance = Diablo 2 Hell then ill be an extremely happy and frustrated gamer...kind of like someone who likes S&M eh?

I'll play on hard at the most. I don't want to think about restarting because I died and I like to challenge myself by taking on difficult encounters before getting too powerful. Although I'm sure there will be ways to work around the hardest difficulty (like backing up saves).

Lol...that is not happening. I usually play a game on the hardest difficulty to see if I can do it. If or when I beat my next playthrough is scaled back a bit so I can relax Image IPB

Yeah stability of the new engine is one of my concerns for TW2.Well,hopefully they learned their lesson from TW1(which crashed quite a bit for me)and managed to troubleshoot their new engine more effectively.Oddly enough I havent had much trouble with DA2,few crashes here and there, but thats about it.

Yeah DA2 nightmare on 1st run was pretty fun, especially the early bits before you get access to the good skills as a warrior was pleasantly tricky at times.

I wasnt actually into RPGs at the time so I kinda missed the diablo 2 era,but if the CDPR spring conference is anything to go by then there should be pleanty of challenging fights in TW2 (or well, atleast the dev playing the game got his ass kicked by the spider mob :P).But yes,insane/nightmare/etc setting that actually is as challenging as it sounds would be refreshing and very welcome. If my 1st run on hard is mostly crash/error free then I'll probably give a shot at the insane difficulty, the idea of one mistake=game over just sounds too fun to pass up .

Its one thing to try hard difficulty on an action game, but with an action RPG, where you need to get proficient with the fast-twitch elements as well as gaining a deep understanding of leveling your character...I'll be starting on medium difficulty.

Just curious is anyone on this thread interested in The Old Republic?

Not looking to compare Witcher 2 and ToR.

Eh, I'm slightly interested in TOR; but I'll have to see what people say about the 'playing solo' aspect of the game, plus how it's all priced, before I consider buying. I've never done multiplayer, none of my friends are gamers aside from my 14 yr old nephew (and as numerous 14 yr olds do, he likes going around being as evil as possible and killing everything in sight, which doesn't exactly 'mesh' with my playstyle :P), and I am a bit apprehensive at the thought of leaping into a MMO completely friendless!  Love Star Wars, though, which remains the main reason I am still at all interested.

Witcher 2, though, bring it on. Very excited for that game. It's looking absolutely gorgeous! I'm almost done with a second playthrough of Witcher 1. I really hope that the sequel throws more hard choices my way. I love that the Squirrels v neutral v Order choice, or even the Shani v Triss choice, were so damned difficult. The first time I played, I forced my husband into a debate about the political situation in The Witcher to help me make my mind up. Great, great stuff. x

Other then Witcher 2 and Mass Effect 3, Tor is the other game that I am very excited for this year. If it comes out. I have been following it since '08. Only played WoW before so I don't have much MMO experience but I played WoW for 4 years stopped just last month. I actually got to beta it once and played it at Pax.  One thing I love is the questing. Questing in mmo's has never mattered but in ToR you find yourself caring more about the quests especially since you aren't simply allowed to save and reload your decisions are pemanent. Really makes you think what to do. Multiplayer conversations look to be a lot of fun with the right group.

Only have 1 friend who plays on PC and most of my others stick to 360/PS3 so I managed to get him excited about ToR. I understand not wanting to start off all by yourself being an MMO it can get overwhelming. But you can be a Sith =DDDDDDD  Sith Inquistor/Bounty Hunter are probably gonna be my first characters myself.

And I prefer the Scoia'tel like the mages in Dragon Age  I prefer the underdogs : / Even if the squirrells are a bit..drastic. Something about religion ruling over people always bug me >.> Templar/Chantry or Eternal Flame/the Order.

"Combat’s certainly taken some cues from Batman: Arkham Asylum, just with a sword and some magic. Finishing moves are particularly entertaining, if you can pull them off."

That is really great. I saw the combat in video before but a comparison really helps. Arkham Asylum had excellent combat not over the top...for Batman.

"Either way, they’re all fine. The writing and the acting is even more believable than Bioware’s and this has proper swearing in it."

Also very nice to hear. The cursing in Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 always sounded off...like if they decided half way through mid-sentence they shouldn't curse.

"And now for the important stuff: there’s a naked woman in the first two minutes of the game. Absolutely full-on nudity that in games you would only usually see in crap German “erotic” titles. Earning your Mature rating there, CD Projekt!'

Ha other then there's nudity at the beginning (ha awesome) it's great that CDPR is using the M rating and trying to push it as much as possible.

So... I was wondering about the HW requirements. I am currently stuck with my trusty laptop (which plays Crysis and ArmA2 just fine), so eh... the usual hated question... will it run at least on low settings? I am not exactly a computer savvy person so please bear with me.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
Intel Core i5 M 430 2.27 2x GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
4 Gigs of RAM

I just want to know if it's worth pre-ordering then. I don't want to end up with a game I can't run.
Suuure, I could try to buy/build meself a better PC, but my funds are kinda slim right now, with the studies. :(
