Sure. No worries mate. But it won't be short.
SPOILERS as hell, so prepare.
During the Thanedd revolt Ciri disappears, she teleports herself to the legendary Tor Zirael - the tower of the Swallow. She does so to escape pursuit by Vilgerfortz, then the most powerful mage in Northern Kingdoms. She succeeds, because Geralt engages him in combat and slows him down. The witcher is massacred - Vilgefortz doesn't kill him, but breaks many bones in his body. Geralt later reminds himselft that he didn't make any mistakes during the fight and that his only mistake was before the fight - he should have simply ran away.
Anyway, Ciri goes missing, Nilfgaard invades Northern Kingdoms and takes them by storm. Triss Merigold saves Geralt by teleporting him to Brokilion. There he slowly regenerates thanks to the help of the Dryads and their magic. After few week, he and Dandelion decides to go after Ciri, knowing only that she must be somewhere in Nilfgaard. In time many people join his journey - Milva (female archer), Cahir (Nilfgaardian knight), Regis (vampire) and Angoulême (bastard child of noble blood, but mostly a rogue) - (which in my opinion could make for a fantastic DA:O style rpg set in the Witcher universe) and they all travel to Nilfgaard. Adventures happen.
Finally Geralt learns that Vilgefortz has his hq in the castle Stygga, what's more he finally captured Ciri (again, Ciri and her life in Nilfgaard were all explained, but I'm skipping 3 books to make it short) and Yennefer (whom he captured to make Ciri more... cooperative). Geralt and his "team" assault the castle - all of his comrades die one way or another either protecting Geralt or Ciri. Vilgefortz is slained by Geralt with the help of Yennefer. They are all reunited. Then, the Nilfgaardians arrive - with the emperor himself.
Emhyr requests that Geralt speaks with him privately and tells his people to treat Yennefer and Ciri with utmost respect. Geralt recognizes him immediately as Duny, the husband of Pavetta and Ciri's father. Emhyr is polite - he grants Geralt the privilage of sitting in presence of the emperor for life. And they start talking, for real. Geralt knows that Emhyr plans to commit incest with his own daughter and is disgusted. Emhyr replies that Ciri will never know about her origin, that it's not about love - she will produce an heir, which in turn will produce a being that will unite the whole world and stop the Ithlinne prophecy from happening. Emhyr tells Geralt the end justifies the means. Then he states that he doesn't owe the witcher anything. Geralt replies that he does, that Ciri was promised to him, when he lifted the curse - as the Law of Surprise demands it. Anyway, Geralt knows that he cannot stop the emperor and knows that Emhyr will kill him and Yennefer to get rid of the loose ends, the people who know that Ciri is his daughter. Emhyr is frank with that, the conversation is honest - he proposes that Geralt and Yen slit their wrists in the hot bath "as people of honour did in the old times". Emhyr tells them to take their time and ask for the knife when they feel ready. He then promises to both of them that he will not hurt Ciri, then there is a final farewell. Ciri realizes that she will not be able to see Geralt and Yennefer anymore - there are tears, she vows to sooner kill herself than to allow Emhyr to touch her and so on. The witcher and his lover take the bath, make love for the last time and request for a knife. Surprisingly, it appears that everyone has left the castle and the only one left is Ciri. Enough to say that Geralt and Yennefer are both stunned and shocked - apparently Emhyr had a sudden change of heart, when he saw Ciri cry, when they were leaving the castle.
IT'S MUCH better explained in the books - and sounds much better as well ; ] I omitted a few things concerning the emperor - during the conversation Emhyr explains briefly the story behind his curse, origin and rise to power. But that maybe some other time...
So that's it... if anyone has any questions concering the Witcher books, then I'm always happy to help.
What I dont understand is why the emperor has to be the father? Why cant someone else do it. Nice the saviour of them all will be a grandchild of incest

Vote for your favourite RPG of E3!
http://e3.gamespot.c...dex.html?page=5
Skyrim takes it. No surprises there. but I am surprised TW2 beat out ME3.
48% of votes now.. 2 more days..
Yeah, Witcher 2's going to sweep this. Skyrim's cool and all, but I've yet to see an Elder Scrolls game with more than a token plot. Plus, RPG combat that's actually deep? Sign* me up.
*No pun intended.
You know technically TW2 shouldn't even be in that list considering itis merely a port (360) of an
existing game (PC).
Here me out, I'm merely basing this on the fact that most of the titles in that list have no real game you can play right now to form an opinion while TW2 you can play the PC version so people are basing a vote on the PC game and not the 360 version. There is a possibility that the game may suffer a slight hickup in the conversion, I'm betting it on control going from keyboard/Mouse to a gamepad since CDProject has shown they can do a lot with graphics.
Again note this is merely a concept that the vote should be based on all new games rather than a ported game.
and I'm betting I'll still get insulted for stating an opinion that prevents the game from getting an award.
Haha, no, that's fair. I don't know what the criteria for putting stuff on that list is. (After all, shouldn't Deus Ex 3 be up there?) I just think that if Witcher 2 is on that list, it's pretty justifiable to be excited for the 360 version - esp. since PC apparently works pretty well with agamepad.

So that her child can become Emperor quicker and for the current Empore to conquer half the entire world?
That's the reason.

But every once in a while a game arrives out of the blue that redefines expectations for an entire genre. A game like The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. If you enjoy single-player role-playing games on PC, you simply must play The Witcher 2. Innovative, unflinchingly mature and richly imagined, it is driven by fascinating, finely nuanced characters navigating a fantasy world of dark political intrigue and ambiguous morals.
Yay.. eat that, infidels!

Ciri is already his daughter, she already has his blood line if he is worried about succession. So the child would be his great grandchild not his grandchild. He doesnt need to father it,Costin_Razvan wrote...

As for CD Projekt, it is both clear and heartening to see how it got to the point of being able to make a game of such narrative sophistication. It turns out that the studio actually found its first major success handling the Polish versions of some of the best single-player role-playing games of all time, including Baldur’s Gate (originally released in 1998) and Planescape: Torment (1999).

Nonsense! If I was Ciri I'd run to Dandelion, he's a fine upstanding moral fellow who never gets into life threatening situations and has to have Geralt pull him out of it.

SPOILERS again
Many of you probably wonder who is Ciri and why is she so important to so many people in the Witcher's world.
Then... from the beginning. She is of the royal blood - daughter of Pavetta, herself a daughter of Calanthe, Queen of Cintra. Many nickname Cirilla as the "lioncub of Cintra", which alludes to the name given to her grandmother - Lioness of Cintra (for her military prowess...).
Calanthe had only one child, a daughter - Pavetta. Unfortunately for the queen, she started to manifest magical abilities at the age of 15 - she proved herself to be a powerful source. Whats's more the royal castle started to be "haunted" by some unkown creature, with features of a hedgehog and a man (yep, that's Duny). Calanthe found herself in desperate need of a witcher - Geralt, to be more precise.
The Last Wish was translated into English and one of the chapters - "Question of Price" covers that particular story. It's about Ciri's parents, so I advise to read it - you can find the ebook in the internet, though buying it the bookshop is still preferred ; ]
Anyway. Geralt, with accordance to the Law of Surprise, demanded from Duny (as a reward for lifting the curse) something that he already has, but doesn't know about. That turned out to be Ciri, as Pavetta was with child, which she kept a secret from everyone. The witcher promised to return when Ciri reaches the age of six. Of course, Calathe was furious and promised to sooner hang Geralt than to allow him to take the royal child, an heir to the throne of Cintra.
Ciri inherited the magical abilities from her mother - and all of that was due to her blood. She was a descendant of elven sorceress Lara Dorren - Aen Hen Ichaer ("the Elder Blood"). The story of Lara appears many times in the books and in the games - you know, two versions of the same legend. Beatiful elven woman falls in love with handsome human sorcerer, Cregennan of Lod - unfortunately for the both, either humans (elvish version) or the elves (human version) turn out to be the bad guys and disrupt their happiness. The true story is this - Lara was extremely powerful due to her genes, she was to marry Auberon, king of the elves from the other dimension (yes, the king of the elves of the WILD HUNT) and have a child with him that would possess power to travel between worlds and time - but mostly, to stop Ithlinne prophecy from happening. She refused and chosen a human mage Cregennan with whom she fell in love. He was poisoned in time by humans, as the relationship between an elf and a human was deemed unholy. But Lara was already pregnant with his child, Riannon. Lara was cast out by the humans and eventually killed by them - but before that happened she was able to give her child to Cerro, Redanian queen, who wasn't cooperative at first, but changed her mind due to the curse Lara threatened to cast on her in case she disagrees to help. Riannon is treates as a Redanian princess and is eventually made to marry.
Then the genealogy happens and I am a little to lazy to explain all of that. Anyway, the blood of Lara finds its way to the Cintrian royal family through marriages among the heads of state. Lara blood manifests its power in Pavetta and then in Ciri.
Ithlinne prophecy (the one that speaks of the White Cold, the ice age that will befall the world) tells that only the blood of Lara, the Elder Blood will be able to stop the end of the world. Not to mention, that a child born of her blood will have power beyond measure and in process will unite the world. That is why, EVERYONE are so crazy about Ciri - of course, only a handful of people know about her bloodline, mages and such.

I really hope that some day the rest of the books will be translated into English - the growing popularity of the games simply demands it, no to mention that quality of Sapkowski's writing puts many modern fantasy books to shame.

Thanks again mate! Now I understand even the movie! The Hexer makes little sense for those unacquainted with these tales.
And Nerevar, I don't think Ciri would evber be a LI for Geralt in any game, unless CDPR wishes to murder the story and Sapkowski too. From the movie alone I think he sees her more like a daughter than a woman. And he's no emperor or king willing to incest with his sisters, daughters, who knows who else had an incest in that world... Happened a lot I presume. Am I wrong?
