I feel the same way. Been playing some Adventures made by the Witcher community really great stuff.
And question how do you change your avatar to Triss?

yes , there is an import system for the save between the 1 and 2 but you could play the 2 without playing the 1
people who want to buy the 1 wait until 10 may you will find it on gog +artbook free and more for 5 $

Witcher 1 unlike Dragon Age is a dark fantasy type of game. It's a lot more mature. You hardly if ever find any black and white decisions everything is more a shade of grey. Consequences of your decisions never happen immediately which adds to the replay valuve. Usually you have to wait and see how your decision has played out.
Buy it from Gog or Steam. It's kind of a pain to get the updates so if you want to pay $10 more get it from Steam.
There is an import system for Witcher 2 but it's been confirmed that you can choose some options from the beginning for Witcher 2 if your not importing a save.
Best line from that article is this
"What stands out most about The Witcher 2 is – and believe me, it’s a rare big budget game that gives off this vibe – is that it feels like the game CD Projekt wanted to make, with neither apology nor compromise getting in the way of its vision."
That is like music to my ears.
Also Paul
"Witcher 2 doesn’t do a great job of establishing the story so far, but it doesn’t take long for things to be explained."

Very cool I don't have a steam but I'll just buy it from there if I feel like getting it. Is the enhanced edition like DLC or something? Also basically what are the computer requirements for 1 or 2? I got a PC about april 2009 and I think I got 3 GB Ram with about 200 GB's that are free. Is that good enough to generally play lag free? (not good with computers so not sure if right).

And as for your performance. We'd need to know your
RAM
CPU
GPU
those are the important things. But also Witcher 1 runs badly regaurdless because of the engine I believe. My computer can't even run 30 fps in Act III so yea think about it before buying it. Witcher 2 is supposed to be really well optimized we are led to believe though.

Unless if you can afford to upgrade. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 isn't very good and your proccessor is kind of old but would probably be minimum needed.
These are the requirements.
Minimum specs
[*]Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD equivalent
[*]Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800, 512 MB memory or ATI equivalent
[*]Memory: 1 GB for Windows XP / 2 GB for Windows Vista and Windows 7
[*]Hard Disk: 8 GB for the game installation and 8 GB for bonus materials
Recommended specs
[*]Processor: Intel Quad Core or AMD equivalent
[*]Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 260, 1 GB memory / Radeon HD 4850 with 1 GB memory
[*]Memory: 3 GB for Windows XP / 4 GB for Windows Vista and Windows 7
[*]Hard Disk: At least 16 GB of free space
I think for Witcher 1 9800GT was enough for it.
That guy doesn't know how to say Geralt!

A swing takes 2 seconds and there's no way to cancel it and masses of creatures swarms to you.

Is it 17th yet?No?*cry*
"The Witcher 2. Coming soon to a Fox News near you." sigh.
Funny how magazines like pcgamer, escapist etc. that gave DA2 extremely high scores(94&100 respectively)are now ripping on it every chance they get.

Ooh well that sucks I guess. Do I
have good enough equipment to play witcher 1 pretty good though? I'll
probably do that and if I like it I'll probably upgrade my video card to
play the witcher 2 or other games. I doubt I could upgrade my processor
unless it's much easier than I think it is.
Yes you should be able to play witcher 1 no problem.Maybe not on highest settings ,but probablyy on low/medium.
Also as for recommending it ...Well it has its ups and downs like any other game:
-Not so good english voice acting
-Non-combat animations a little clumbsy sometimes
-Combat a little too simplistic for most people taste
+Great atmosphere
+Good music (subjective ofc,but I havent heard anyone complain about it)
+Good story
+Very cool story branches on modern games standards
+Generally no black&white (ie good vs evil)
+Combat animations (again subjective, but I liked.slightly over the top without being ridiculous)
Probably some more, but those are from top of my head, but if you dont mind playing defined character like Shepard then I would definetely recommend it.

I would suggest you watch the combat video from CDPR spring conference(combat start around 16:00 ).Imo it looked like you need to make a mistake for it to get in the way in any way(like allow yourself to be surrounded by enemies),but better you judge for yourself.

I assume this was directed at me?If so then yes im aware of that.

Also they do say don't be afraid to leave, level up and come back. Enemies can be high levels then your Geralt is at the time.
No level scaling in Witcher 2.

voice acting doesn't bother me much. Also are you saying there isn't a character creation? If there isn't that would suck.
