The Loredo assassination missions is one of my favorites.

I love the stealth parts because it gives me a break from killing and gives the impression that Geral is not just a killing machine. A lot of games lack this.

On a slightly unrelated topic who were some of you favorites in TW2?
Personally, Letho, Triss, Roache and Ves would be on my list, although I'm currently on a second playthrough siding with Iorveth, so he and Saskia would be in there too.

Oh hell, I liked the whole cast.

This.

I more or less liked all characters (at least the major ones), which never happened in any game before. I like Geralt, Triss, Roche, Iorveth, Henselt, Foltest, Shilard, Radovid, Letho, Sile, Philippa, Dethmold, Saskia, Ves, the dwarves of Vergen, Zoltan, Dandelion (only because of the Succubus quest).

So I think it would be easier if I talked about the characters I didn't like, or thought could have been done better.

Renuald Aep Matsen is one. I think he should have been introduced a lot earlier. Even in the prologue. As it stands, he is a missed opportunity imo. Shilard does a good job showing the cunning and sophistication of Nilfgaard, but I felt a more developped Renuald could have shown Nilfgaard's iron fisted discipline and martial might a bit better. Which is not to say he was bad perse, just that he could have been better imo.

Another one is Prince Stennis. I get that the game was trying to make it hard for us to sympathize with him, in order to make the Walls have Ears quest be a difficult scenario, but maybe they overkilled a bit. It  didn't really weaken that sub-plot for me at all, and it remains one of my favorite quests in the game (in large part because there is no killing involved, just listening about domestic political dynamics). But Stennis as a character was a bit shallow, while he could have had more depth to him, imo.

Finally, maybe Natalis, only because we see (and hear) so little of him. I think some interaction with him in Act 3, if on Roche's path at least, would have shed more light into him. I get that the Temerian civil war could not have been the focus of TW2, but maybe Natalis could have gotten more screen time. He could have been an interesting character.

Agreed. TW2 has a pretty solid cast.
And as KoP mentions those three could've done with more screen time. Although I didn't mind Stennis getting less screentime. Mostly 'cos something about him rubbed me the wrong way early on.:bandit:

Considering Natalis's importance, I too think we should've seen more of him. Oh well, perhaps in an expansion where Geralt(& Roche) helps Anais secure her/Temeria's future.
I liked her reaction to Natalis giving her a doll in particular. I was like "Aww. That is so cute! " . Now that's a kid who knows her priorities!:police:

I've encountered better stealth mechanics/controls but I'm glad they did it for TW2 because it added great atmosphere and it provides more player choice.

I have the opportunity to get Witcher 1 and 2 for free. Given that the protagonist is a manly dude is there any reason for a woman to play the game? Is there any guy-guy slashy romance? Is Geralt sensitive at all. Is there dialogue? Can you speak with people rather than just kill 'em all?

Or should I just run through DA one more time?

Women like Shatisand and Persephone who love the game can probably answer the first part better.

There is no guy-guy romance.
Geralt can be sensitive.
There is a lot of dialoghue, in fact some criticized TW1 because it had "too much" dialogue that it got boring to them.

Yes to all of the above, of course. It's an RPG. And there is some guy on guy...well, I wouldn't call it romance and it doesn't involve Geralt. I suppose Geralt can be sensitive on occasion, but he's pretty aloof and sometimes snarky. He's a fixed protagonist so your decisions affect the outcome of the story more than they do his personality. Female gamers seem to love him or hate him.

All men want to be like him. B)

Vernon Roche and sorcerer Dethmold share a truly tender guy on guy moment in chapter three, it'll bring tears to your eyes. It did mine anyway.

Oh and Dandelion has a long, passionate and deep love affair with himself.

Like he said Shatisand and Persephone can better answer if you should try it. But I will add that there are more quests in Witcher 1 and 2 that can end with out killing. Also unlike say Hawke or Shepard, Geralt is based off his character in a book series so you will find there is a lot of depth to him and that his amnesia while a cliche does help with changing his personality and your actions can have consequences and not just the illusion of it.

Like Slimgrin said there is a creepy...old mage who forces his servants to well sleep with him. This explains it better. This is after all the "bromancing" was done and he was just talking and trying to pretty himself up. But man they manage to make him be a badass, creepy and gay and it doesn't feel cheap.

Heh but I found DA2 dissapointing but I don't downright hate it. The other two you mentioned love DA2 I think?

And Tina Fey is hawt and hilarious who wouldn't be mesmerized? Posted Image

She did say any woman.
I think you could explain why you like the game, as a woman. You've been one of the game's most ardent fans!

Personally I do not consider the gender of the PC to be of any relevance to my enjoyment of a game. Sadly the games I am interested in have only male PCs (barring Bioware RPGs), so I wish we can get a female PC in a game I'd enjoy. Like I want to be able to play a Daenerys Targaryen type of female.

I think Dandelion is better in TW2.

Consider this piece of dialogue:

Dandelion (friend of Geralt): "The wh-res are quite decent here."
Geralt: "Maybe later."
Dandelion: (beat) (deadpan) "You worry me, my friend."

Would you find that amusing? Maybe that could work as a test whether the game is for you. While the game features some strong female characters, the in-game universe is decidedly sexist.

On pure alchemist builds. I agree it's not the best, but it works fine even on Hard. I've become fond of the bomb Dancing Star to cause trouble for steel sword opponents:

I myself don't have a problem with a male character. I know a lot of women do meh I grew up around 3 brothers I blame that. If it's really a problem I suggest giving it a try anyways. Witcher 2 is a great game where you decisions can change the game and most if not all your decisions can change something. The game is mature, dark and gritty. I have seen people say just because the game has sex and no censored scenes doesn't make it mature. But that's not what I am referring to. I am talking about the story. The poltical groups, the corruption and backstabbing in the background it feels authentic. No one can be trusted and everyone has an agenda.

Moral decisions. There is no clear right or wrong decisions. Which is the staple of the series. CDProjekt does this well. Your decisions are about is this good or evil it's about what I do I feel about the situation. The impact of your decisions don't always happen immediately with a majoy choice not manifesting until say a couple of hours later. You don't just save/reload if you didn't like something. For me anyways it made me think about what I am doing and commit to my decision.

Who you decide to kill or help in Act 2 can set the stage for a future expansion that was promised (sorta). Witcher 2 also doesn't reveal everything. I like that you don't find out the signifigance of the dragon with playing through a certain path. I like how you Henselt seems all evil and a bully but playing through Roche's path you see he is doing what he feels is right for his kingdom also there is Dethmold whispering to him at all times.

As for gameplay, there are no fedex quests. There were a crapton in Witcher 1 but not in Witcher 2. Sidequests aren't simple. My favorites being the Claws of Madness from Act 1, Lost Lambs in Act especially. I mean WOW Lost Lambs really is a great sidequest and doesn't end how you'd expect. Act 3's Gargoyle Contract also requires more then just mere killing it requires a bit of ingame research. There are some really great sidequests that are well thought out and the main quest is even better.

Excellent post!
I especially agree with the bolded. That's what makes the game mature to me. And that's what I want to write blogs about shortly. The political issues presented in the game are of great relevance to our contemporary world, in addition to just being complex and intriguing.

I think considering the succes of Witcher 2 on the Pc alone, there is likely to be TW3. And I'm pleased that they did the 360 version after the PC, particularly if it allows them more time to port the game properly and focus on the PC beforehand.

The scale of the events which have taken place, would make a very good TW3, personally I would like to see a lot more of Nilfgaard and Emhyr and the repercussions of one's actions in the events of TW2 on a political level within the North and how it affects the possibility of a cohesive defence against Emhyr's territorial aspirations.

As to the wild hunt plot, since I have only played TW2 so far, I will get to TW1 I promise. It seems to be a plot more personal to Geralt than the wider political ramifications so it could be done in a full expansion if enough time is spent on it, but with this I really don't know I'd need more information on the Wild Hunt and how CD projekt would execute it.

Edit.

Oh and yes KoP I did like Shilard

While it seems that Witcher 2 is a success but is it successful in terms of sales? The last i know is that they sold 400K copies in the first week. We have no idea the total copies sold now. I doubt it can EVEN beat Dragon Age 2. Like it or not good stuff don't sell well but garbage does. Same like healthy food.. but people likes fast food more. Reason why Bioware is successful because they have established a name for themselves. If they continue the same trend as DA2 for DA3, it's still going to sell and Bioware/EA will still make alot of profit out of it. They have already sustained a huge fanbase. Whatever garbage throw to us, we will buying it blindly. Same like RAZER.. they can release a mediocre product and still sell it expensive, people will buys it.

Well you have to understand. CDProjekt RED only sold I think 1.6 million copies of Witcher 1. For them it was considered a success. Especially since it was their first game, from a series mostly unknown in the West (i think anyways) I know I never heard of the Witcher books before the game and it's an rpg not a shooter.

Witcher 2 sold almost double then Dragon Age 2 did on the PC ( based off vgchartz.com numbers). And just less then 200 k when compared to DA2 PS3 and PC sales put together.

It sold a total of slightly above one third of what DA2 did when you put all consoles together. Again this is just a site that is notirous for being wrong.

How you get the gay scene? I didn't get to see it when i was on Roche path. Witcher 1 is indeed a success as they can sell 1.25M copies in PC alone. I'm referring to Witcher 2. At the moment i'm not even sure if they managed to sell pass 1M copies this time around? Compare to DA2 (PC+console), there's no where near it.

@Costin
Well i hope they succeed in the console version this end of year. But that is also a sign of more consolizing for the next witcher. Honestly if you really asked me, TW2 although has it's merits is indeed consolized.

Instead of going for Triss and leaving Roche during Act III I helped Roche go kill Dethmold.

I'm impressed.

I made a few comments on my views on the Scoia'Tel. ( I believe them murderers and terrorists ) and some guy decided that he would dislike most of my LP videos and then make a user on Youtube specifically just to call me a racist in my videos.

LOLZ
