Oh... and I didn't read the books, so maybe somebody can tell what exactly did the Nilfgaardian Empire do that everbody goes "omg Nilfgaard is pure evil!", while we only see the wretched hives of the northern kingdoms that are pretty "morally ambiguous" themselves.

Nilfgaard aren't so much evil, at least no more than the Northern Kingdoms at any rate, so much as scheming expansionist neighbours. Bit like Orlais in DA.

As for the books, I don't believe they've yet been translated into English.

Also, let's help our little friend Dandelion in his uneven fight against Cortana in Gamespot's greatest sidekick tournament. :P

An interesting thread popped up over in the TW2 forums. Basically, the dlc and imported items completely disrupt gear progression in the game. I have to agree. I started a new run after deleting said items from the cooked pc and the game makes a lot more sense. I'd encourage anyone new to the game to do the same.

I'm blatantly lobbying for a PC user interface in TW2. Please share your opinions. Do like the UI as it is? Or do you think it could be better designed for keyboard and mouse? I feel the UI needs to be better designed for PC.

"New introductory tutorials, to guide the player through the game's extensive RPG system, combat mechanics, alchemy, and magic. A new "dark" difficulty mode for hardcore players who want a challenge beyond anything the game has had to offer so far. In addition to the ramped up difficulty, the new mode will reward players with new "dark" items and all new quests.Arena Mode—in which Geralt must battle endless waves of monsters. This challenge mode will be integrated with the game's online forums and Facebook. [/list]Additionally, version 2.0 will contain 40 planned bug fixes, and 9 new DLC missions. According to the developers, who spoke with Polish website
Polygamia.pl, the patch will contain dozens of new lines of dialogue, new music, character models, locations, and more.Despite their work on porting The Witcher 2 to the Xbox 360, the developers will continue to polish the PC version of the game, which they maintain plays best on the PC, and will remain so for the foreseeable future." [/b]

Nine new DLC missions??? O_o. You gotta be kidding. Trust me I'm not complaining, but this strongly suggests they couldn't get all the content in by release time.

Are you sure the 9 new dlc is for PC and not for the 360?

The article clearly states all of this is slated for 2.0. but maybe the translation got bungled. You could be right.

Edit: I basically started bouncing off the walls when I read this, but on further consideration, it seems very unlikely. I think some facts have gotten screwed up.

I believe it. The DLC missions are probably really small (lets say less than an hour). CD Projekt did say before release in one of the dev diaries they could create content fast with the RED Engine too. :D

That's another 6-8 hrs added onto the game, even if they are Troll Trouble length. And new dialog, new character models, new areas? I'm no programmer, but how could they cook that type of stuff up this quick? It had to be mostly done before release, and the've now just finished it.

Jesus, I need a drink..I GOTTA KNOW!!!!

Anyone besides me watching the conference? I'm liking what I'm hearing so far!
Ustream could do with some resolution alteration.
I like that the Dark Items can also be used to balance the Quen sign.

I just woke up...what did I miss. I just saw a glimpse of the Arena just now. Looks so awesome.

Edit: Wow a price cut!
2nd Edit: And we're getting a Intro CGI cutscene finally!

I only caught the last 15 odd minutes, but the introductonary cutscene is a definate plus, hopefully the full stream will have been recorded somewhere.

Hmmm....looks like I'll be delaying another run through the game in favor of playing Arena mode till I puke.

And quite challenging!

If you use Dark Swords without having a complete Dark Item Set, they will drain Geralt's health at a pretty steady pace.
In Loc Muinne, the guy playing Geralt lost almost his entire health bar within circa 30 sec due to using an incomplete Dark Item Set. When using the swords, they also seem to darken the area around Geralt in a similar manner to the green thingy you can get around Geralt.
I think one of the swords also had this chain lightning effect. Could just be me, but it looked a bit more white than the Quen lightning when I was watching it. If it turns out to be me mixing it up I apologize!

I so want more!!!

And that the 2.0 is a bit larger than TW1's EE!
Although that kinda figures I guess heh.

Just a quick recap over here: http://www.vg247.com...os-start-today/

“We promised to support our game after release and also bring new
content for free. Version 2.0 is one of the steps to fulfill our
promise. Around 1 milion units sold worldwide and solid financial
results are the best proof that that we have the right approach. You
don’t need draconian DRM to have good sales and you don’t need costly
DLC to have good financial results.
“You just need to treat your customers fair, and you get not only
financial results, but fans admiration which for us is absolutely
priceless.

Version 2.0 enhancements and features include:
  • New Tutorial System – New, more comprehensive tutorial is designed
as a separate part of the game and takes place in the Kingdom of
Keadwen. New Tutorial System gradually explains all gameplay mechanics,
from very basic to the most sophisticated systems. The Tutorial ensures
that start of the game for everyone will be a pleasureable experience
without too steep a learning curve.
  • Special “Dark” difficulty setting – A new, intensely challenging
difficulty setting that provides the ultimate challenge for players. On
the “Dark” setting, The Witcher 2 is nearly as difficult as “Insane,”
but allows players to save the game. It also provides a completely new
set of dark-themed gear with very high stats. “Dark” mode also includes
other special elements related to the “dark” theme. This setting is yet
another reason to play the game again for those seeking new Witcher
    challenges.
  • New items in the “Dark” setting: 3 new sets of dark armor (light,
medium, and heavy); 6 new dark swords (3 silver, 3 steel); Other “Dark”
    themes/elements in the game.
  • Completely new, arcade-style Arena Mode. Infinitely replayable and
progressively more challenging, Arena Mode lets you hone your combat
style and techniques against all the different opponents from the game
as well as a new monster type, the Werewolf. Dispatch wave upon wave of
increasingly more difficult enemies, earning awards that you can use to
upgrade abilities, weapons and armor, and to test alchemy. Hirelings can
also assist you in battle for a price. Combat waves will continue until
your character is defeated, when you’ll see a statistical summary of
results. Players can share their results with their friends by uploading
this summary to the forums or to Facebook.
Arena Mode includes:
  • New location – forgotten stronghold in the Kingdom of Keadwen.
  • Dynamic, responsive audience reacting to the events.
  • A new monster type, Werewolf. (Really digging their werewolf design here, very creepy)
  • 30 different waves of enemies, looped with increasing levels of difficulty.
  • 3 different prizes to choose from in each wave.
  • 3 new characters (mage, knight, and dwarven fighter) that can serve as allies during clashes.
  • A shopkeeper offering gear and enhancements.
  • 3 new GUI panels designed specifically for the mode.
  • New dialogue.
  • New background music.
  • New Witcher Forum and Facebook integration.
Over 40 new technical and gameplay enhancements are to be included as well.
