I'm not sure us common folk will understand all that is discussed. But if they announce a new IP, particular one in the Sci-Fi Genre, one might have to change one's shorts. :o

IF CDProjekt announced an expansion for Witcher 2 I'd **** myself.

Witcher 2 Investor’s Day

"CD Projekt RED will be hosting an Investor’s Day on November 17th, during which the company will present development strategy and expansion plans for the next four years. It’s going to be a unique occasion for all shareholders and potential investors to see how the company looks like on the inside. It’s going to be even more interesting, since it will be the first time for our company to unveil such long-term strategies since entering Warsaw Stock Market. Stay tuned for more info, there’s a lot of exciting news coming up."

Oh man can't wait to see what they have planned!

Yes two new AAA+ games coming, one in 2014, second in 2015. One is scifi rpg(mayby based on THEY or Jacek Dukaj writing), another Witcher 3. Two small games for Xbox LIVE Arcade, PSN, Steam, GOG in 2012

Yes two expansions for Witcher 2 in 2012, no news about content maybe new cinematics, maybe quests. ;)

So they announced a new IP...and it's Sci-Fi.

 From the article:

"At the moment, CD Projekt RED employs around 100 people. Their plans for AAA+ titles are very ambitious, and they will need to hire more people to make their plans come to fruition. After all, it would seem unwise to split The Witcher team and assign them to different projects. When will the recruitment process begin? Currently, all efforts go into The Witcher 2 for Xbox 360, so we will probably find out more after its release. As of now, CDR representatives are swearing that they won't be using outsourcing in any shape or form (we all remember how cooperation with WideScreen Studios ended) nor buying out other dev studios."

Uhmm, that ain't enough people for what they have planned. They need to start hiring fast or resign themselves to outsourcing. It's not like outsourcing can't work. Just look at the PC port of Deus Ex: HR.

More quotes and info:

-new IP will be set in compeltley different universe.

-will continue the tradition of non-linear, complex, adult content

-they didn't confirm that it will be an RPG. :(

-it will not the be 'They", the sci-fi shooter Metropolis was working on before being bought by CDPR. Thank god.

-all future big titles will be multiplatform. <_<

-"you don't produce a large RPG in less than 3 yrs".

I don't think Deus Ex is a good example. The only part of Deus Ex to my knowledge that was outsourced were the boss battles. As a result, they seemed completely different from the rest of the game. You were dictated into builds that you didn't want to go into, simply because the boss battles were not created with skillbranches in mind.

I had thought they did the UI as well. Maybe I'm mistaken.

EDIT: Sh¡t(gotta Love Spanish Key boards)

Well i don't really know a lot of Games that aren't linear and AREN'T RPGs, unless it's a Sandbox.

I hope the Witcher 2 engine is enhanced/upgraded for future releases to really take advantage of high end PC hardware.

O_o

I don't get it. I thought it was low end hardware that it didn't take advantage of. It looks great on high end rigs.

That is true but they can't expect to continue supporting DX9 over the next few years.  I'd like to see them start using DX11 features and drop DX9 for good sooner rather than later.

Hey Witcher fans, console gamer looking forward to play TW2 here.

I was wondering whether I should read the novels before getting the game, and which of the two currently available in English is better.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a fan of the translation of The Last Wish, actually. Apparently a lot of the humor is in how things are written/worded, but you can't tell any of that in the English version.

The story ties closer into that of the first game. It's sort of a judgment call on whether you want to it, or just read/watch some kind of plot synopsis - I'd personally put it about on par with DA:O in terms of quality, but there are a lot of people who would disagree with me. Lots of the mechanics are pretty questionable, but it has great atmosphere.

I was wondering whether I should read the novels before getting the game, and which of the two currently available in English is better.

Thanks in advance.

I believe they intend to release something along the lines of a graphic novel/digital comic with the console version. I don't think its necessary. I've only read The Last Wish, which isn't long. I thought it was pretty good.

News:

CD Projekt to release five games by 2015

5 ****ING GAMES.

That would be 3 games in 3 years, and 2 in a single one.

How do they plan on doing that...
don't they have like a 100 workers? or that's just the Witcher team(which i figured would be most, if not all, of the company, given that they stopped working on "They", the sci fi Fps), and yes, it says that 3 are relatively cheap, but still, games don't make themselves.

I Don't see how something good can come out of this....

Ya that could be worrying.  When other companies about the size of CDProjeckt is now try to do that many games there is a good chance that quality could take a hit.

The report says that the Witcher developer plans to put out two high
profile games in 2014 and 2015, with two low and one mid budget projects
planned for 2012-2013

I just copied it from the link.

Playing it in these days.

Love the characters. Ex. Foltest, with his five minutes or so of screen time, had more personality than all the dozens NPCs I've met so far in Skyrim.

SPOILERS

I found his death in the prologue surprisingly poignant, even though I barely knew him and he was hardly a saint - he was actually implied to be a ruthless, very flawed man.

Great stuff.

In one interview they said they planned to grow the team to 200 people. But still, it seems a bit much to me too. The fact is both Witcher games were released in a pretty rough state, and fixed later. That's their track record. I think they should colloborate with another studio on some of these projects.

Yeah, but I think they are trying to build up taking into account their own experience (and that means bad experiences when outsourcing the material).

I guess in the balance, they prefer to take fewer risks and remain in control, even if that means slow development cycles or leaving behind some projects (in the worst case scencario).

One telling statement is from Adam Kiciński, when a reporter asked him why CDP RED doesnt quit making RPGs (which sell less than shooters and have "longer" development cycles) and he gave the example of "Dead Island" selling 2 million copies in just one month (in multiple platforms). To that Kiciński praised RPGs for being a type of game with a much longer sales' span than other, simpler games (like shooters). He added that its profitable to make RPGs cause they keep selling at least for ten years (isn't that a little too optimistic...?).

Something is telling me they will even consider publish the Witcher 3 by themselves (having now the Capital back-up to do it).

We'll see how it goes....

If you want a good grounded back story from the characters, you should read the two first books (collections of short stories). The first, "The last Wish" has been translated and published in English. The second "The sword of destiny", has been translated to English only by Witcher fans and you have several different translations to choose from, in the Witcher forums.
The novels deal mainly with the character of Ciri, a young girl, scion to a kingdom, adopted by Geralt, with a very important role in the future of the witcher's world. As this character rarely is even mentioned in the games, I would say you dont NEED to read about her in order to play them, but the novels are great reading none the less... :wizard:

I'm waiting for TW2 to come in the post. Playing 1 atm. Enjoying a RPG that doesn't hold my hand or insult my intelligence. European sensibilities wins over American style sentimentality any day. The Witcher is making me hate Dragon Age.

I think Origins was a great beginning, but the direction I was hoping the franchise would follow (more in the way of "A Song of Ice and Fire") is getting farther and farther each step of the way...

Bioware is conscientiously making the choice of a more "lite" fantasy setting, with soap-operish elements, full of people cracking jokes all the time instead of developing character... It's sad...
