I'm convinced TW2 combat will not be popular on consoles and the article below is one of many to come IMO. There are a few facts about TW2's combat to consider:
1. Certain commands, at least on keyboard, are
still unresponsive. This is mainly with hotkeys. You press them, nothing happens. And death soon follows.
2. You can hold down parry with steel sword and counter instantly. Not possible with the silver sword, where you must release block key and press attack key, then press block again. This is inconsistent and serves no purpose. It is a bug.
3. Many times when I parry close to the enemy, then I press attack, Geralt only swings the sword while standing in place - he doesn't leap at the enemy who is now out of range. But then sometimes he does. It's random...or bugged.
4. The one reliable aspect of combat in TW2 is potentially the most boring: passive buffs via alchemy. Will action oriented console players be patient enough for this element of the game?
Basically, TW2 combat, even after all the patches, is unfinished. Trust me I love it, but It still feels like it's in Beta. It is unpredictable and unresponsive. It's entirely possible to press a command/button multiple times, and watch Geralt stand there like a slab of meat doing nothing. This won't fly with console gamers familar with slick, high budget, highly responsive action titles. If TW2 is released on Xbox with the same input issues it has had on PC, CDPR will be crucified. The console crownd will NOT be as forgiving as the PC fanbase has been. And trust me, the PC fans have been more than accommodating for CDPR on numerous issues regarding this game.
