They seem to really like it, but I feel they should have given it a 9.0 instead with all that praise. oh well. is it really only a 30 hour game, though? I like longer RPGs.

ex. Mass Effect games were always 60 hours for me.

That's about right, but the story diverges so much from act 2 on that you have to replay at least once to say you've really played the game.

It's 30 -35 hrs on medium setting, but you need to understand there's almost zero filler in this game and you're missing about 10 hrs in the second act due to branching paths. CDPR made a bold move by requiring the gamer to play it at least twice to see everything, and I respect them for that.

Here's a well written review with an honest score, although I personally think they scored too low on sound design and longevity. This is the kind of review a gamer can trust.

I've been reading up about that and how you either have to help Roche or Iorveth, whoever they are. Which should I do first? I typically play the "good guy" as much as possible in my first playthrough while being a ruthless, merciless killer in the second.

if one side is a bit "edgier" or even funnier than the other, then that's probably the one I wanna save for last.

There is no good guy/ bad guy dichotomy. That's one of the brilliant things about the game. Iorveth's path is a little more idealistic.

edit- But I think you should just play and make your decision as you go.  I chose mostly based on what I felt was most important to Geralt at the time, a personal relationship or an important task he had to see through.

Lol, it's debated to this day on the forums. One path to me has better gameplay, the other makes more sense according to my take on the story.

If Mass Effect games took you that long, then I think it's safe to say TW2 will take you more than 30 hours.
ME1 takes me 30 hours and ME2 around 40 (closing on 50 with DLCs). TW2 took me 45 hours (on Hard and then Dark).

And like others said, unlike the ME games, you *need* to play TW2 twice as it has an almost entirely different Act 2 and a different Act 3.  Add to that the additional 4 hours of content.

Thinking about CDPR making a Sci-Fi RPG. In my eyes they smashed, burned and pissed on everything Dragon Age was with the Witcher franchise. TW2 is 100 times better then DA:O and TW1...well it beats the living **** out of DA2 in terms of faction wars.

If they make a Sci-Fi RPG...well I hope they do make something like ME in terms of gameplay style, of course better but I really don't want another Deus Ex or Fallout and then they will smash Mass Effect as well if they do that.

I really hope that happens.

Yep, same here. I'd love to play a sci-fi game made by CDP RED.

I would love for CDPR to do a sci-fi game but not like ME or star wars they should do a different style of sci-fi.

Certainly story wise it should be very different then ME or Star Wars, but I would like similar gameplay as in actually using guns like in ME.

The finales of the prologue and act 1 differ depending on player choice too.

I just want a scifi rpg that is extremely open. Imagine being able to explore space with your crew and a ship and land on to planets in realtime.

Granted I think that is asking for too much from a single player game.

I would just want a Sci-Fi RPG with space combat done well, and more open world maps unlike Mass Effect. Hope CDPR delivers.

Glad the game is just around the corner, so I can finally join in discussions instead of avoiding them. Have high hopes for this instalment, and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

I wonder if BSN will explode with new discussions about the game or will the new enthusiasts/haters/gamers come to this very thread to talk about it... or will they just spam TW2 forums :)

Sex cards! Misogyny! Women are treated like objects! Tries to be mature but it's a childish teen fantasy! No custom character, so it's not a real RPG! Geralt is ugly! They aren't original, they used BioWare as a stepping stone and it's based on a book! It's a hack and slash and you hated DA2 for it! etc.

I missed those days. Ignorance is hillarious.

Those were dark times indeed. Every weeek a thread or two about both games, pitchforks, and torches alight.

I like this quote: That said, by the time Geralt's managed to bed a busty, goat-legged succubus you might be rolling your eyes a bit. Or, like us, cheering.

Another well-written review. I have to say, my bias towrd consoles is unfounded in these critical reviews. I was sure they'd be b*tching about slow pacing, an overwhelming story, etc. Not the case. This guy even calls out CDPR for including QTE's.

What really pisses me off is when they say the devs or the game is misogynistic. Since when was it bad to make a game world feel authentic?

I wonder how the Witcher forums will change. Already we see some dumb ass console players just attacking people (no offense android) and Slimgrin decided to not bother with the forum at all. :?

Edit: Just saw this Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition launch trailer

Hm, I loved the Love & Blood one a lot more (For a Higher Cause is like bacon; it makes everything awesome), but it has a nice touch at the end with the TW1 main theme.

Edit: I'm still pissed at not having a damn witcher medalion, would have traded the statue easily for one. I hope they'll rerelease the EE for PC with one.

Question: why are several reviewers knocking the game over its checkpoint system? It's not that type of game, you save whenever you want. <_<

None taken, it's been made pretty obvious to me that consoles are for the most pedestrian. I seriously can not play anything on MP that my friends force me to with the volume on.I'm really excited and have abstaining from anything even seeming to touch on anything of substance to the game or story. I would like to have a forum where it can be discussed in depth, but would totally understand that being hard to find.

On a sidenote, I've been talking to a good buddy of mine who's helping me frankenstein a gaming pc and should have everything up in a few weeks.
