On a sidenote, I've been talking to a good buddy of mine who's helping me frankenstein a gaming pc and should have everything up in a few weeks.
Ooo do tell us the specs if you know. Plan to get Witcher 1?

I was cursing the checkpoint system several times while playing, too. In several difficult battles like the kayran and dragon, the autosave is before a cutscene and you can't save during the battle.slimgrin wrote...
Question: why are several reviewers knocking the game over its checkpoint system? It's not that type of game, you save whenever you want. <_<

There was one checkpoint that they messed up on launch and that was the Draug, but they fixed that. I don't have a problem with it anymore. And yea I am against saving during the battle.

To me, that's pointless punishment. I don't like when a game uses inconveniences as some kind of "hardcore" test.slimgrin wrote...
Saving before a cutscene, ok I agree with that, although one can easily skip the cutscenes. But I don't agree with saving during battle. That's part of the challenge.

Haven't talked with any specificity yet. We'll be picking up a tower over the weekend then We'll start shopping for the upgraded cards and other things I'll need to have a good pc.
I plan on getting The Witcher, Spore, Thief, and a whole bunch of other things I haven't been able to pick up due to being tethered to a console for so long.

Oh yes, that'd be great. At first I played as this massive potion junkie and I had to rush through Letho's final conversation because I didn't want the effects to wear off.slimgrin wrote...
I hope they've fixed the potion drain during cut scenes

Awesome, one thing I would not recommend Spore. I bought it on launch an EA was quick to ruin the game. You should also consider making a Steam and gog account if you plan on buying games digitally. There is a Interplay sale right now on Gog.com and a Might and Magic/Gothic sale on Steam.
Even if your preferences were some kind of law for gaming, if this were true then why have checkpoints at all. Let everyone play on "dead is dead."Costin_Razvan wrote...
Games are not just interactive stories.

I really hate this philosophy of game design that uses inconvenience as a kind of punishment. Same thing about not having fast travel, another one of my pet peeves with Witcher games.

That sucks. Spore looked like it would have been fun. I'm tempted to make an account and buy those games now that they're cheap and get to playing them once I'm done building my pc. Is steam and gog locked to your isp or to an account?

I'm not sure fast travel belongs in TW2. Part of the (sorry) challenge is getting from point a to b safely.

Well I broke down and picked up the game (Got it for $20 with all the bonus content) realizing it was rather hypocritical of me to pass judgement on something without first hand experience.

Yes, it's more in TW1 that I noticed that. Didn't help that the teleporter was glitchy in my game so I never used it for fear of game freezes.slimgrin wrote...

With all the backtracking in TW1, fast travel like the teleporter made sense.
They do, but that just makes it more annoying that you have to run back through the forest to get to Flotsam when the only thing you do during that time is pick up a sprig of wolfsbane.Yea I don't see how fast travel would fit in Witcher at all and idk if it's just me but I swear after doing some of the monster extermination quests Endrega, Nekkars etc. spawn less frequently.

Yes it is.![]()
Hopefully it changes your mind. As for your framerate well you need to upgrade if you want to play at a steady fps. 9800GT and 1gig of ram aren't gonna cut it for the more inensive areas of the game.

Hmm, well with the way video cards are produced these days it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent upgrade at a fair price.
Don't really want to get a new computer until the end of the year at least.

RAM is cheap so no need to worry there and I play at 1920x1200 with a single HD 5770 and Q6600 just not at max settings. I have SSAO, AA, Ubersampling set to low and shadows set to medium but I get 35fps most of the time while inside I get 60 fps.

Well, here's where they can learn from ES games. There's free roam in TW2, but very little creative exploration. I mean there isn't enough motivation to explore for it's own sake. I would have more random treasures and hidden areas scattered in places like Flotsam. Maybe a dead traveler with a map to some hidden treasure or whatever. How awesome would it have been if the vayopatis statue was actually an entrance to a cave? There could have been more stuff like that.
