I'm at the beginning of act 2,and I would like to thank all of you PC gamers for pointing me into the right direction. I already feel as if this game is killing Bioware. Rumors it is what DA2 should have been like.

I am really enjoying the story etc. Gameplay eh,but it seems as the acceptable pace needed between DA:O & DA2.

DA2 should have been like TW1, in terms of a conflict between an oppressed minority and a religious military order.

Glad you're enjoying it Rip!
What path did you pick if I may ask? You need to experience both paths to fully appreciate the story and the game in general.

Yes,I agree I will need to play both paths. It already has me wanting, well rather thinking about my next playthrough.
I decided to help Iorveth. I did a quick skim through the Little handbook that comes with the EE version. I wanted to save Triss. LoL Then I recently found out it does not matter who you side with,as Triss gets saved either way?

Also I meant more along the lines of Gameplay and world structure when concerning DA2. I did not have the luxury of playing The Witcher, but my brother did and told me about it. I bought the Witcher 2 based on word of mouth from mainly Bioware fans.

Triss will be saved by the end yes, though that choice at the end is not as simple and carries big repercussions.
The 2 paths will differ not with regards to Triss' fate, but rather on big political questions. Of course not the mention the differenc es in terms of gameplay, locale, characters and even perspectives...etc.

Triss has to be saved. I'm willing to bet she'll be pivotal in TW3.

Yes,and that is awesome and amazing IMO. You feel the impact of your choices, here and now,and throughout the game. Thusfar As I can only speak of what I have played. I also have read a little bit on that choice. I was online looking TW2 up and seen a forum topic discussing this. I will not,nor did I spoil the game for myself, but I do understand the Choice carries Weight.

I am good at seeing enough without spoiling anything for myself. ME2 was my only failure, and even then I did not spoil any of the Tali/Quarian related quest in ME2. One of the reasons I enjoyed those parts more then any other in ME2,and my obvious affection towards Tali... LoL

I have done an amazing job with not spoiling myself since, and it works out for the best IMO.

Ok my mistake back on TW2,I really do enjoy this game and already have my brother and good friend looking to buy it. I am ashamed to admit I put "rebuilding" my gaming cpu off until a later date. TW2 has changed my mind on that date lol.

I am enjoying the characters, worlds, story, and concept. I am not a giant fan of the combat gameplay, but can enjoy it. As it is better then DA IMO. I also like the idea of Silver and steel swords for different enemies. Monsters/Humans. It is also funny IMO. (When the dwarf I think it is),is standing at the Rose of Remembrance statue... I lol'd hard. I tend to save and load alot just to see the differences in minor options. Then in my second replay I know which small choices fit with my playstyle. (in that particular playthrough) While I choose every other major plot choice the second time around. Sorry for the randomness and grammar, but my edited time has been cut short. I will catch up with this thread later. Witcher 2 is calling.

Nice. Here's one I took, seeing Iorveth staring at Geralt walk into Flotsam after their first um greeting felt great especially since the dynamic rain decided to kick in.

Dragon Age Origins used to be my favorite game. Before I discovered The Witcher.

Glad you're having fun and I look forward to discussing the game story more once you finish it!

One aspect of Iorveth's character that made me really like him was that his support of the creation of an egalitarian state was not due to him loving humans and wanting to hold hands and sing kumbaya with them(in fact he dislikes them) but due to it being the best hope for his people at present time.

In other words he's not a Bioware character.

After finishing DA2 and before playing TW1 and 2, I always said that mages should wait for a larger movement that they can ally with (the rise of the nation-state) to get mroe rights instead of turn against all of Thedas.
This is precisely what Iorveth is doing and that's why I respect him more than Yaevinn.
And what I really like is how even nonhumans are scared ****less of him and his ruthlessness.

Iorveth is infinitely more interesting to me than Anders. He is a gem of a character really.

Why am I so poor? I can't afford any of the good stuff in Vergen. I want a silver sword.

I did finally get that haircut though. Shaved sides is god tier.

It's not easy to get money in this game. Which is good, as struggling financially is a big part of Geralt's adventures imo. You should be able to grind for a bit via arm wrestling. Also, sell stuff.

I just bought and crafted all the oathbreaker armor set (very expensive), pretty early on in Act 2, so it's definitely not impossible to accumulate a respectable sum of money.

He's one of the best game characters by far.

I love the whole character dynamic between him and Geralt on his path too. They start off as being distrustful of each other and slowly but surely develop respect and trust for each other as it goes on.  They're not buddy-buddy for most of it and even in chapter 2 Iorveth ends up threatening Geralt to not spill the beans about what Saskia really is. The end of it where Iorveth displays an admiration for Geralt and  a slight thawing of his hatred for humans if he lifts the spell from Saskia was a great moment.

Great co-belligerent relationship right there and another sign of it not being a Bioware game.

Yeah, I've been looting and selling every chance I get. I will have to try the arm wrestling more, even though it's kind of annoying to do on an Xbox controller IMO.

I'm sure I'll have better luck/more money on my inevitable 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th playthroughs. At least I'm enjoying the story right now.

Yeah you gotta be a penny pincher, and in dark mode I'm pretty sure grindng is required to buy the special gear.

-sell junk
-sell all weapons looted ( well most of them, like short swords and whatnot)
-sell herbs and monster parts
-when a quest has two or more outcomes, sometimes one will reward you better loot and the other rewards more XP. Go for the loot.
-don't always sell your premium armors, because you might mix and match them with different gear later in the game. Store that stuff.
-crafting is cheaper than buying
-and be very frugal. Sounds obvious, but this game has one hell of a strict economy, and since I hate grinding, I'm really careful about the gear and recipes I buy.

One trick you may want to try that I came across incidentally, is to save and reload in an area where monsters spawn, or specifically where Endregas spawn in Flotsam, near their cocoons, before you destroy them.    I assume it works anywhere that monsters are triggered to spawn, but can't say for sure.  Kill 3 or 4, then save and reload, and kill the same 3 or 4 again.  I don't know if you can infinitely do that or not.  You may not get talent points after a while, not sure, but you can loot the remains that you can then sell.

You can also revisit caves, I think.  I can't remember which cave in particular, but one play through I revisted one cave and the monsters spawned all over again.  When I revisited the 2nd time, I don't think they spawned, but they did the first revisit.  Also, the best I recall, I had to wait 24-48 hours before they respawned.

Of course in my game (pc), I just lowered the shop and crafting prices to a more reasonable level instead of having to resort to grinding.

Not sure if it works with Enhanced Edition but I recommend downloading the Market Price Mod. I feel the money I saved was balanced by the fact that I would actually spend money instead of never using it.

Thank God. If he was he'd spend all of his time acting like a melodramatic twit and would look like this guy:

You could farm harpies at the quarry or whatever that place is where they spawn in large numbers.  Once you kill em all, I think you have to run back a bit before the quarry, near where the path diverges to the troll and meditate for 24hr to get them to spawn again.  Unless they changed that since last I played it should help a bit.

No but seriously, Fenris is a joke and doens't come close to being as good as Cedric who is only a minor character, let alone Iorveth. The only Bioware NPC I can think of that is as interesting as Iorveth is Loghain imo.
