If by complex you mean having several dimensions, then Henselt is definitely complex. More so than Dethmold.
What you find fascinating is a different issue.

Explain it to me then just what you think makes him complex. As in: More than a competent if abrasive character who knows no scruples & is useful to keep alive? (Which is refreshing but hardly complex) Asking sincerely here. I often miss stuff and love to read more in depth observations.

I'd gladly do that, as Henselt is one of my favorite characters.

On Roche's path, when Dethmold is saying that Aedirn is a carcass that is going to be defeated easily, Henselt responds (paraphrasing): You're wrong Dethmold, this land is still strong, I can feel it. Like a wounded bear surrounded by vultures, but still strong, still deadly. This will be a good war.

This shows that Henselt, while he appears like an arrogant ****** during the negotiations (a negotiation tactic, bluffing), is a man who is aware of his strengths and that of his enemies, and respects them.

Zyvik reveals a lot of Henselt's character. He, before the curse, was a father to his men. They loved him and a lot of them still love him. He eats with them, fights with them and ploughs the same ****s (you wouldn't like it, but soldiers would).

Henselt tells Geralt that he is tired of sycophants and really likes it when Geralt challenges him and tells him no to his face.

In the battle of the mist, after Sabrina massacred 3000 soldiers of both camps, we see Henselt shocked at what she did. He even expresses some sort of sadness at what happened to Demavend's men, his own enemies. If not sadness, then definitely respect.
He tells Geralt: "War is for the honorable. But when mages are involved, it becomes hell."

That's why he is multi-dimensional. He is an oppressor and a tyrant, but he loves his men and his men love him, and he potentially makes Kaedwen stronger than ever. And he shows respect to his enemies. He has martial pride and is not just a dick for the sake of it.

I think Bioware puts more emphasis on characters and CDPR on plot. I like characters from both companies but what rubs me the wrong way about Bloware is the overall flavor of their games. They seem to be creeping more and more into Michael Bay/Hollywood territory, while playing TW2 reminds me of watching a really good foreign film.

Edit...Bloware?...lol, that was a typo.

Good point, that. There are less shades of grey in Bioware games and I love CDPR for doing that non stop. There is no "right" or "wrong" in their games and there are neutral choices that aren't cutting you out of the plot itself.

What Bioware accomplishes in my case is that it makes me CARE about the folks traveling with my Shep, Bhaalspawn, Spirit Monk etc. CDPR hasn't made me care about Triss or Zoltan or Dandelion. Heck, I cared more about Roche & Cedric than Geralt's closest friends & romances.:D

Thanks for pointing all that out.

Hmmmm...... May I also add that he looks death in the face like a BOSS if you do let Roche kill him? (Which I would never do, given the consequences)

He is not completely drunk on power, tis true and he is aware of his own limitations which is also pretty rare.

Good points all around, KOP. Thanks for answering my question there.

Aw, you gotta be kiddin me.  Zaeed and Hacket are some of the most engaging complex fleshed out characters I've ever come across.  There's a lot of depth there! You almost had my respect until that post.

But Hackett doesn't do anything but give you some missions since Mass Effect 1. What has he really done?

He's just...deep, original, complex, and fascinating.  Kinda like ME 3's ending.

I can't believe you're even asking...

Yea there is that too, he takes death like a man.

On the otherhand, Henselt is a dick. Thinks any woman would dream of being ploughed by him (and that's a pretty realistic mentality considering the time period, though sadly such mentalities still exist). Can threatens Saskia with rape. And is unnecessarily sadistic with Ves.

That's what makes him multi-dimensional.

You're welcome :)

Um...ok. I loved him throughout ME3. His speech on the Normandy alone is awesome. But whatever.:wizard:

There is that but it is pretty accurate, given the setting. As a woman, it may make me cringe but I see why it makes sense.

Suprisingly big with multiple paths and a large cave to explore with tons of loot.

Totally missed Baltimore's story on my previous Iorveth run. Very cool little side quest. I love treasure hunts.

Geralt likes the beauty of flowers, because in that beauty is a contradiction of him...and the means to make some deadly poisons.

Just started Chapter 2!

To CRUSH THEM in his potions!

Seriously, can you pick any of those new pretty flowers? Did they do anything to the alchemy menus? I'm a sucker for alchemy, though I haven't done an alchemy specialization game yet.

I'm finishing up TW1 now. I went with Scoia'tael again for old time's sake, though eventually I'm going to have to do an Order game. This time I did make a couple different choices like sparing Berengar and Adda. Radovid is such a dork in TW1. lol But they do make a happy looking couple.

Veto, Hacket is cool only because his voice is Lance Henriksen, same as Morrigan, she is cool because, she is a "copy and paste" of Aeryn Sun aka Claudia Black.

Crazy Idea: CDP RED making Babylon 5, Star Trek DS9 or Farscape rpg. ;)

So I increased my arena hi-score from 7'000 to 57'000...

...then the game decides not to connect to the Internet. FUUUUUUUUUUU-
