Music to my ears, but the death knell for gamers who prefer TW1 combat.

I am glad they threw TW1's combat away, it was boring, too easy and not that fun, to me.

TW2's combat system offers a lot of potential.

I shoudn't post this, but this guy has actually published a book, and his take on the game is as spiteful and shallow as I've read for any game. It's like he got mugged by PC gamers or something..

I hate the roll. :P While Geralt sometimes did a ninja roll in TW1 to close distance, having to roll around like a dumpling all the time feels ridiculous. Most of the time I'm too lazy to do it and hence I die. Oh well.

Rolling is tied inextricably to the number of opponents you face and the AI, but it's not the only option, and people that don't take advantage of the auto attack, signs, and bombs are simply doomed to roll around a lot.

I do use signs. Always liked them. Yrden is a must in this game, and I finished a couple fights last night on Quen and the divine intervention of Melitele alone.

What? He just hates the game, that's all. Plus he's a foreigner, so it's quite understandable. I can't imagin how someone who didn't read the books can enjoy playing The Witcher 2.

How ironic that his review started out even-handed and erudite and then turns just idiotic- since that's what he's accusing the game of.  "Nilfgaard is a stupid name." Wat.  Seriously.

I stopped reading at "I only played for six hours."  If you're going to review a game, either play the game or STFU.

To be fair it's not a review, but his impression. Still, his approach is remarkably childish and incomplete. He couldn't contain his bias toward PC gaming and even takes a shot at Easter European culture and then tries to clumsily tie it into his premise. Couching sh*t in comfortable language. It's still sh*t.

I wouldn't value this type of assessment for any game.

/off topic rant

He tries so hard but fruitlessly to justify his negative opinion on the game. The moment he called the environments "rarely convincing", he lost all credibility

He doesn't like fantasy, either, which makes me wonder why he would bother playing a fantasy title.

I'll give him this- I think the prologue is the weakest part of the game for design and narrative. Since he didn't get past that much if at all in six hours, he didn't realize the hardest part was behind him.

Personally I wouldn't mind a different type of dodge mechanic to replace the roll. Feels like I'm playing Legend of Zelda sometimes with how much I use it. Hell with 200% it gets ridiculous enough to where you travel faster spamming roll.

Lol, when I get 200% roll I move around quickly by rolling all over the place. While that's fine for a game like Ys Seven (awesome game btw) it's very ridiculous in something like Witcher.

This is why I want a sprint mechanic, one with its own stamina meter. but here again, if all you are doing is rolling, you're ignoring the auto attack. Closes the distance better than rolling can.

Well, according to VGChartz (which may or may not satisfy people), TW2's release on XBOX has fallen. In its second week in the US, Mass Effect 3 outsells it.

It's the number one game in Europe though.

Something tells me this isn't going to get a lot of sales in the US on XBOX, despite good word of mouth.

Such was the case with the PC version as well, 60% of the sales were in Europe

With most big titles this is extremely rare, there should be 1-2 times the copies sold in US compared to EU

I suspect the US is never going to be the best market for the Witcher games, and you know what? It's better that they don't even bother about it and instead focus on Europe.

Contrary to what some people believe the US is not the center of the gaming world.

I think it's because Geralt has a big following in Europe, with there having been graphic novels, a TV series, etc, for the novels, and even with the media coverage of the game he's still an unknown here.

While the Europe market is good, not cracking the US Market could be a huge disappointment for them, especially since a lot of the marketing is towards them--they developed in English first for them, for instance. If they don't make the Bioware-level sales with all the hard work they've been doing, I could see a problem--they almost faced Bankruptcy once, and clearly they've spent a lot of money on this game.

I hope it does well enough to get a sequel and get it distributed here.

I was speaking of rolling outside of combat. ^_^

I only roll in combat to get away from danger or to position behind an enemy to attack him from the rear.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because every single polish gamer bought this game, whether he/she liked it or not....

It certainly isn't, we're talking about a video game series based on a Polish book series where only two of the novels have been translated into english that most haven't even heard of.

I was personally very hesitant to try out Witcher because I thought to myself "meh some obscure book series based game made by some Polish mickey mouse company" but fortunately I took the plungeand fell in love with TW1 and saw how misplaced my concerns were and how capable CDPR and the source material were. Unfortunately not a lot of North Americans are willing to take the same plunge.

Most in Europe had the same level of knowledge about the Witcher series before the games came out as people in the US did, except for the Poles. Also how is making the game in English first means they are doing it for the US? Really, there are so many countries with so many different languages in Europe that you can't expect any developer to localize for every single one of them. Many gamers in EU countries do know english, otherwise we wouldn't understand anything.

Of course this does not hold true for Italy, Germany and France where you generally get localized versions, but is true for others ( I am not counting Russia here ).

I think there are far more gamers in Europe that are willing to try out the Witcher games then there are Americans.

Yeah, thats why I wasnt so excited about Xbox port when it was announced. At least we got some new stuff from it, but I would prefer the game to remain PC exclusive, so they can fully focus on that and not compromise anything...like they did with UI.

Seriously, they make gamepad-friendly UI for PC and then they change it for consoles smh. And dont start me on QTEs.
