We're discussing this over at the RED site, and it's very likely this is just a rough illustration meant to signify they're going sci-fi, nothing more. Given the care they lavished on character design in TW2, this looks way too cliche to be the actual player character. But then again, they did say a different team would be working on this game. That's my only concern here - how much of the Witcher team, if any, will collaborate on this project?

They did said something about not liking to separate their teams, yes?
So i doubt theres any.

And i agree, that character looks very cliche, i don't like it(Ooooooh, Main character who lost his arm. Never seen that before)

In cyberpunk you dont lose an arm, you sell it to instal cybernetic, to gain the edge. That is the spirit of CP, you allow to drill your head, you scratch at the bottom of the barrel to buy newest eyes from Mitsubichi or replace your skin for armour and enchance other senses, instal processors and all that jazz in you - loosing humanity at the same time which ends with cyber-psychosis ("I touch those sacks of fluid and they just... fall apart....")

I would love the elements of that humanity loss would they be ingame. To date no other game touched on the subject... all protagonists whose limbs were replaced (or you as a player add modifications) act as if nothing happened. DEHR licked the idea but "I didnt choose this" was really shallow and was my dissapointment with the game in that regard.

Imagine CDPR doing something with gender RP elements like act II in TW2, a completely different levels and story branches dependant on your choice of gender. Now that would be ... something :] no?

Well I think that would be pushing it.

On a side note, has the RPG field regressed overall or what? Playing different sexes used to come with a completely different skillset and/or narrative choices. Now all we get is a male skin or female skin that has plays the exact same. Why can't games vary it up a little bit when they give the option for M/F? I can think of a dozen scenarios as an assassin where it would be way more beneficial to be female. Yet nooo... the RPG world circa 2012 all plays out the same..

Obviously this was not directed at anyone in particular, but Mr.House kinda sparked the thought considering his lament over the lack of female choice. Sadly the choices are only cosmetic these days. Makes me laugh at the "Femshep = better than Maleshep hurr" and vice versa arguments that get so heated on these boards. You gotta give it to Bioware. They make fans argue over skins as fiercely as they would narrative.

Alpha-Centuri: This is why I don't give a damn for a customizable protagonist unless CDPR does it well which would take resources I would rather have them spend on making a bigger better world and a better story.

But this is what I think would be great. Gender selection informs everything about your game, from the path you take to your skill tree.

Hey I'm all for it but I think we need to keep our expectations on a realisitic level.

If they would do that it would be great, if not then they should give us another set protagonist like Geralt.

And then, selecting a woman forces you to marry some wealthy guy and it's over.
Imagine the outrage.

Joking aside, though, that would indeed a very cool thing, but I dont think it will happen. Not only that it requires lots of effort to basically make 2 entirely different games, but even more important: The risk to ****** people off is way too big.
No matter how they change things, someone WILL feel offended and call it discriminating. Say (just examples):
Women can not wield heavy 2-handed weapons? SEXISM!!!! Women can be strong as well.
Men are more brutal (in case of set characters)? Insulting to men!
And it goes on.

I honestly can not think of any example that would NOT ****** someone off.

Trigon may be on to something there. If gender influences what sorts of skills, abilities, innate advantages your character has... people will cry foul. Developers could be potentially making all things equal to avoid backlash and to, perhaps, remain neutral. Most likely, however, is they just don't want to put in too much effort, as there are a million other areas to focus on.

With that said, it would be pretty cool for gender to actually influence the story in how people respond to you, available solutions to a problem, etc... but that would basically mean the developer making two games. So, highly unlikely.

I have high hopes for CPDR, though. They do a great job of having meaningful decisions coupled with great storytelling, characters, and atmosphere, so I am extremely psyched for this game.  I'm curious to see what they can do in a new setting.  I just hope this new team is on par with the Witcher team.

Gender-specific stuff could well slip into annoying stereotypes.

I am all for pre-determined set characters. Don't care about gender. I just want a cool character whose motivation and choices actually matter, where I can customize his / her motivations, beliefs and perspectives, and who fits in the narrative and story.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Seriously, aside from Kickstarter, how many devs actually go out of their way to say 'Thank You' to their fans like this.

Um play NV. Your gender was not just "cosmetic". Your gender gave you access to diffrent perks, dialog, diffrent rewards, diffrent ways to take a quest ect. Also Cyberpunks source matrial has always been customization of your character, for CDP not do that, they are not only not following their source matrial, they are taking the easy way. Not everyone who liked TW2 will like Cyberpunk, it's diffrent, and vise versa. I don't want CDP to take the easy way, I want them to do justice to the osurce matrial. If Cyberpunk had a preset character then I would not mind as much, disapointed liek i was with Geralt it would not be an issue at all, but this is not the case. It would be like Bioware(when Bioware was a good video game dev and was not owned by EA) forcing you to play a human male in BG2, despite the fact that BG2 followed suit with D&D customization options and source matrial. CDP is doing the same here, so yes I hope gender is an option as it would just create more options to make more characters.

If NV can do it, there is no reason CDP can not do it, and they can probaly do it better.

For once, I would like female-specific dialogue to not mean immediately resorting to feminine wiles and using sexuality as a weapon.
