I have played TW2 quite a lot of times on Insane with a MK and finished it, and it is a game where you can die in 1-2 hits from certain bosses. I never felt the controls were bad.

I played Dark Souls for around 6 hours before I got so frustrated at the ****ty controls and the deaths they caused me that I gave up.

They do need a slightly better targeting mechanic, but I'm not sure how that should be done. Still the occasional hot key delay, for me anyway. Other than that, I've no issue with TW2. It's very responsive and slick. They really improved a lot in the EE.

They should have kept those dodge maneuvers from the first one in this on top of the rolling. The rolling by itself looks ridiculous after a while but luckily riposte lessens the dependency on it.

I played TW2 on Xbox 360 and I actually disliked the controls. I was frustrated several times, whereas MK never gave me that much trouble.

The game is also significantly smaller, there are less enemies.

TW2 had more quality content than the first. In terms of enemies, in TW1 you could kill everythign with group style plus igni on hard difficulty without any potion. In TW2, it actually forces you to prepare, use potions and grenades, and use different tactics against different enemies.

Nah, I actually used way less potions in Dark TW2, then I did in TW1. Granades or Throwing Daggers? None.

Actually the impact of these things was bigger in TW1, particularly of the Oils.

Of course this can change if you play an Alchemist build.

Play TW2 on Insane and Dark vs TW1 on Hard and see where you use more potions.

On a similar note, Counterattack can be borderline useless with larger mobs. It almost needs an option whilst holding down Ctrl to move to the "Next Target".

Granades or Throwing Daggers? None.

I used the bombs once, and only once during the conspiracy theory quest involving Traut.

Well, I didn't play through TW1 on Hard, but even on normal I remember a few fights as very challenging. In particular the ghost hound in Act 1 and the swamp carnivorous plant in Act 2. These two caused me to reload many times (the hound in particular). Of course, as is usually the case, with learning the game, came better mastery as well. I remember starting the Hard mode and having a pretty easy time.
I used quite a lot of pots and oils in TW1. Pots had a longer duration and could be drunk during combat. And had these nifty secondary effects, like health regeneration and lowered toxicity. Oils also had stronger effects and sometimes early game were almost necessary to harm some monsters (necrophage oil during initial ghoul encounters, for example).

I did play through TW2 on Dark and I certainly used less potions then in TW1. Removing the ability to use them in combat together with shortening their effects led to their scarce usage. Even if I did use them, their duration would regularly almost expire before I got the target and/or ended a cutscene. So I simply did not bother. Aard and roll is all you need to win the game anyway. Even Letho fights were pretty easy.
Okay, the Operator is pretty challenging. Or frustrating. It's still Aard spam though (to ohko these deadly gargoyles and land a hit or 2 before he recasts his shield and resummons them)... and a LOT of rolling. Which isn't easy, as the room is tight... and the hitboxes of his might fireballs pretty big and can hit you even behind pillars.

I have no incentive to try Insane. I never play any such modes in any games. I see no satisfaction there, only frustration, so why should I?

I played on hard the first time and I killed the beast in literally 10 seconds. With aard, stun. I very very rarely used potions and most of the time when I did, it was to be cool not because it was needed. TW1 provided very little challenge and its gameplay was boring and repetitive. But different experiences I suppose.

Yeah, with some luck that was possible. But far from guaranteed. I remember reloading over 10 times on that fight though. And I did use Aard. Most fights were easy, that's true. Especially past Act 2. But I rather liked the all the "combos" Geralt was making. Think they were cooler then the current roll-fest.

The evasive moves Geralt did in TW1 like the pirouettes looked better too.

^Hmm, a bit shame that the options are only for Steam users and people who'll cosplay. I can't do either of them...

Either way, a very fun idea!

Hi there... :)
I'm posting a summary of today's CDProjektRED conference, in which more details about the REDKit toolset were announced, with some news of the CYBERPUNK game CDPRed is developing.

Just in case you missed it, but were interested. :P

1) GOG Presentation in charge of Gillaume, head of GOG. After watching a mock teaser documentary (making fun of Apple), we are presented with the news that the GOG catalog is coming to MAc. For now, 50 games of their catalog will be available for Mac, and the cool thing is that these games will be hybrid, so after purchased, you can either download them to your Mac or PC, as you like.
http://www.gog.com/c...gue/?system=osx

Some new games are announced: "Puddle" (a phisics puzzle plataformer,
and "Chaos in Deponia"!!! (Deponia 2). Chaos in Deponia (from German great developer Daedelic) will be available in November 6th. for US$20. (It will be available for just US$14 if you preorder it now, and there's also a special promo that includes the first Deponia as well :)).
http://www.gog.com/e..._promo_18_10_12

2) CDProject comes on stage. :) SOme old news; Witcher 2 Sold 2 million copies across all plataforms.
After we see a short trailer, Marcin Iwinski announces the game is coming to Mac. Short summary of the game.

3)REDKIT ANNOUNCEMENT for Witcher 2:
A quick recap of the Redkit toolset that will be available next year [of course for FREE :P], and a movie that explains very briefly the steps of creating a simple environment and then running a simple quest.

Apparently, IT WILL BE VERY EASY AND USER FRIENDLY. CDP IS SENDING TODAY THE KIT TO the 100 modders that were chosen to beta-test it before its publc release...

4)Cyberpunk announcement: The title will be CYBERPUNK: 2077
Great Mike Pondsmith is again asked to come on stage to talk about the game with Marcin.
CYBERPUNK: 2077 will extrapolate on the current "fears" and dangers of Humanity, so to speak. The new setting [50 years more into the future than the orig2inal] was imagined to allow more room for experimentation.
It will comprise a multi-thread dark-thriller story, much in the tradition of CDProjektRED.
The environment will definetely be a sandbox, and for those familiar with the original P&P game, it will be set in "Night City" and its surroundings.
The combat system mechanics will be based on the original, but it also will be enhanced for this version. More and new weapons and gadgets-enhancements will be added for this version too.
There will be a specific blog, set to reveal news about the game periodically.
Right now there is a new image of a female character available for download there.
http://cyberpunk.net/

That is all folks. I expected also a reveal of the Cosplay contest, but for now it seems we'll have to wait for that too... :crying:

EDIT: Here's the full conference...

Sooo... Anyone excited about this??? :P
I must confess Im a little scared of the fact CYBERPUNK will be sandbox... Pulling that off, together with a complex and strong non-linear story, will be a very hard challenge...

Hello people of the Witcher forums!

So I haven't played the Witcher games. Computer can't handle the awesome, sadly. But as some of you may know, I'm working on making my own VG series that would be political. Very much so.

Apparently, one of the characters I thought up a week or two ago in a revelation is incredibly similar to a major character from the Witcher 2.

I'm not sure whether to be happy at that, or sad.

EDIT: But to keep this from not being totally about me, will CDPR ever release TW2 for the PS3? Because right now, all I can do is watch Let's Play videos on Youtube. Which I've been doing, actually. But I really want to play these games, because they sound amazingly political.

I'd say there's almost zero chance of it coming to the PS3. They have two major projects in development and those will be next gen games. We're too close to the end of the console cycle for them to focus on the PS3. the first two Witcher novels are available in English, you might try them if you want more of the lore, politics and writing style present in the games.

I'd rather not say, because if I give away the name I give away the idea behind my character. And it should be a surprise methinks ;).

But, the character my character was unknowingly similar to is certainly one of the chessmasters of the game. So that certainly narrows the amount of people down a bit, assuming the Witcher 2 has various major characters like I believe it does

And I'm thinking about giving him a Xanatos Gambit, just for kicks.

The fact that a very politically oriented character I thought up believing to be original happens to share similarities with a major character in The Witcher 2 strikes me as a good thing, as it makes me think that I'm on the right track to making my political-philosophical VG series.

:D Well that doesn't narrow it down too much, there are still half-a-dozen of those in Witcher 2
