I read the Gamespot faq. We can meditate wherever, but its possible to be interrupted. So we really do need to find a secluded spot. I was wondering about this aspect.

Edit-a poster in the Gamestop thread claimed finishing moves can be disabled...is this true? Anyone hear about this? I would love if that were the case.

I wonder why act 3 was poor. I don't get how it being short is a minus. I don't see why every act should be equal in length. I read dozens of reviews that praised DA2's story, and I got sorely disappointed. So, at this point I don't give much credit for reviewers in estimating the quality of storytelling. The only concrete downside they mention seems to be the inaccuracy of combat controls, though I still don't know what does that mean in actuality.

Apparently the other version of act 3 is much shorter than the other. At least judging by the game guide.

Prologue - 6 pages
Act I - 18 pages
Act II - 1st path - 21 pages
-----------2nd path - 16 pages
Act III - 1st path - 6 pages (it seems that this path doesn't have side quests)
------------2nd path - 10 pages (main quests and side quests)
Epilogue - 2 pages

hey flintlock. How are the dice? Can we get a closeup of them and maybe a roll to see the quality. Thought they looked cool.

Also I noticed there was a guide for playing cards in there. Is there a unique card game for TW2 or The Witcher universe? Kind of like there was dice poker?

After reading your post I decided to make and upload a couple more videos showing them in particular.  Never thought I would ever be posting stuff to YouTube myself.

Dice and Guide
A Look at the Cards

The dice seem pretty nice and come in a nice-looking bag though it is starting to look a little tatty already.  The guide by Dandelion seems to be actually a set of instructions for playing games, but written 'in-character' and even has a section on cheating.  Not had a chance to really read it through though, partly because the pages are quite stiff and I'm reluctant to bend them back or risk damaging it.

Thanks for that. I know it has to be a pain in the ass doing those vids with one hand.

Those dice and cards look good. I like how they used the 4 kings in the trailer for the 4 kings. Also, Triss being the Queen of Hearts fits. Too bad there doesn't appear to be a card for Geralt. Are the card games in the instructional booklet just poker?

That is a lot of options. I have a 460gtx. I think I'd be lucky if I could play on high. May have to go for medium.

Just a post by a user in GS forum that might just ruin your day

Pelit wrote that the combat is improvement over what it was in the
first game. Reviewer critizied mostly finishing moves that were cool at
first, but later were just annoying. He didn't say that it was
innaccurate. But other than that, his review seems to be quite similar
to PC-Action. Pelit liked characters, dialogue, graphics, world and
decision system. He didn't like the story and wrote that story
starts strong, but weakens in the end. In fact, in his opinion the best
part of the story is tutorial. Differences between 16 different endings
are only minor. The main story is short.

What's there to ruin my day? Besides, we already knew all of this.

As for the story and supposed "minor" changes, look at the post above you, Act 2 and 3 have 2 completely different paths, one considerably shorter than the other.

And I seriously doubt the reviewer had time to see every single ending since he'd have to play through the whole game at least 5 times.

You can easily see that at least one ending isn't available 'cos of a choice made very early in the game

I think I'm definitely on low-medium. I have a radeon 4670. Though I'm under the impression that my processor should be good enough (a quad core intel 2.40GHz) for medium-high, so perhaps that helps a bit. Medium should be easily good enough for my eyes (at least until I'm able to upgrade), so I'd be quite satisfied if my computer can be beaten into dealing with that much.

And as regards to the Pelit review, I've read it also and that small summary certainly misrepresents it. The reviewer was overall very enthusiastic in and made it clear that he had had to review the game under sub-standard circumstances (= in a hurry). That summary basically lists and I'd say to a degree overblows all the niggles the reviewer had with the game.

Dumbed down, ruined forever, sell outs, etc.

Honestly, if the vanilla TW1 glued me in front of the PC, then I won't have any problems with TW2, since it's the immersive atmosphere what got me (just replayed it recently, I could play Act IV forever), and I'll be getting nearly lethal doses of that.

I've had reservations about the cut-away finishing moves from the beginning, so I may end up agreeing with the Pelit review on that one.

The Elder Scrolls II manual, but it has widescreen instead of 720p iirc.

I'm expecting cliffhangers for whatever ending we get. CD Projekt might as well announce TW3 this year. ;)

Yeah, I've never liked the idea of time limits on conversation options (as well as paraphrasing...), QTEs, and I've always had my doubts concerning the finishing moves. Then again, I guess the game's whole idea is to arrange a healthy marriage between an action game and a traditional RPG, so I suppose it's inevitable a few unnecessary action elements seep in.

I'd hope that if CD Project indeed breeds new franchises in the future, they would try their hand on a more Baldur's Gate esque party based, tactical CRPG. Basically their answer to DA:O. :)

Humm they say the main story is short but how short comparing this to ME 2 for example that game got me 38 hours of gameplay and it felt like a middle term between a long rpgs and short action games. I really hope that they rush the pt and this is a rpg as long as DA 2.

About the writers being kick out, well I remember something like that too. I think that maybe they invest more on the characters and the graphics an less on the overall core story just like DA 2 :P

He didn't compare them lengthwise, but he did say that Witcher 2 is better than Mass Effect 2, which was a game he also enjoyed a lot.

CDPR has repeatedly mentioned that the main storyline is around 40 hours without the sidequests. No point speculating and playing the guessing game. Judge it once you played the game and we are forgetting the Day1 DLC 'troll trouble'.. which probably give us few hours more gameplay? Personally i wouldn't be much worried already for now.. I admit i had previously but since they mentioned ALL free DLC.. ALL of them will be free.. I have faith in them.

You are talking about the Pelit mag right? well I think this is the second mag that says that the game is better or equal good if you compared it to ME 2 and I didn't like ME 2 that must :/
