so I just bought and installed TW1.

Doesn't it come pre configured with some mods, such as "Flash Mod"? How do I access these features?

I don't recommend starting with the full combat rebalance mod which I believe is his. You will die. A lot.

With the TW site down, I can't really point you in the right direction.

Man I do love that FCR mod though actually made the game a challenge and Alchemy was a necessity.

Playing a bit of Civilizatoin 5 and Starcraft 2...anyone up for a SC2 game? Posted Image

I have already beaten TW1 previously and I enjoy games where I die a lot. (for example DA2 on nightmare mode) - although I must admit I died a lot in TW1, especially fighting those damn plants in the swamp

I found a few links to download some of the more popular mods. Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions for something else I should try. Is there any "survival"-type mod for TW1 that requires eating, drinking and sleeping?

Thanks for the links. Heard about about them but honestly, I enjoy more games that I used to die a lot and never died once after I got a little experienced with it. Come on.. Die on DA2 NM? You're kidding right? In my first run (2HW) I would die every 5 seconds and those thieves would steal all my heal pots before I even noticed it!

My last 3 runs I didn't die once. (2 Rogue Archers and a New Two Handed Warrior who I'm very proud of!) Heck, I didn't even drink any healing pots before the final boss of the Deep Roads.

I was once #1 at Diablo 2 classic Hardcore Ladder on USEast before I moved to LOD. I played Gothic 1 and 2 Hardcore mode (restart if Nameless Hero died, Hard diff). I don't think I died on The Witcher after I really learned how to be a witcher! (on Expert Mode).

Dying sucks! Never die! Losing a level 90 D2 hardcore character because of a power shortage or HD crash taught me that!  It was a lot of fun when PK'ers and other top 10 Ladder players on that season, on Bnet, would start games named " RageGT is gay",  "RageGT come here to die" and when they saw that I wouldn't die that easily even in their games, they actually started to help me in that season! (More people on the game, more XP to gain) They still would hope that the Cow King might get luck and kill me in all those hardcore Cow Level Hell Diff we played together!

It sounds like you are a pro at this! Personally, I'm sure I don't have those kinds of skills to do playthroughs of games like DA2 on Nightmare without dying.

Even if I did, I have grown accustomed to a certain type of gameplay and unless I am dying and reloading frequently to get through tough battles, the game doesn't feel challenging enough for me. For me dying frequently is part of the fun.

I'm sure that I will never play the "Insanity" mode on TW2 because if you die you have to start over.

Believe me.. you have! It's a just a game and all those games I've played, My first thought was quit them all because I really sucked at my first playthrough. For example, I could not get past Savolla on my first run with TW, no matter what. I couldn't get past Howe's Lieutenant on my first Dragon Age run (on Hard). I couldn't fight any biotics in ME normall diff! I couldn't get past the Ogre in DA2. I coudn't get past the first scavenger or mole rat on Gothic!!!! So all my first playthorughs I just learn and research and experiment... sometimes I check forum tips when nothing seems to work.

To be able to play "Insanity"  on TW2 we need first unlock it. At that point you'll be experienced with the game and you will know when to fight and when to run! The only rule in such game difficulty is to stay alive, no matter what! =)

Well, most of those games I use the save/reload "cheat" .. heh but some like D2 or the Gotchic HC challenge (not a game diff, just a quest of honor) and prolly TW2 .. there's no "save" option except when we quit that gaming session for the day and no "reload" except when we start the next session!

I can't wait to unlock my Insanity in TW2! =)

@Slimgrin Thanks but nah, nothing special here. There are much better players than me. I just try to learn from them what I can and well, "I'm Kind of a Big Deal" achievement in Origins and alike are cool! =)

Here's a link to another song by the Swedish band whose song graces the 'Disdain and Fear' trailer. Interesting stuff. They are called 'Hedningarna'. Say that one ten times fast. :P

Edit: I guess they are having trouble with that exclusive early release. Lots of pitchforks and torches in Poland right now.

OK, I installed the high res textures, high res character models, Flash and the FCR mod.

Hopefully it will look great at 1920x1080

Hopefully it won't slow to a crawl during the scene when the town is on fire - if I even get that far before May 17

OMG... I'm actually glad that Google Translator is a piece of crap when it comes to Polish:

http://www.cdprojekt...acje_techniczne There a link to their forum there as well ... I wouldn't browse through all the pages without feeling sorry for CDPR but it was actually funny to read it.

Somehow Google Translator thinks that "the witcher 2" in Polish means Playstation 2... roflmao! Take this, console players!!! :D

People are reporting that the bust is damaged and cheaply made. Some are saying their CE's are missing items as well. And CD red just botched their exclusive early release in Poland...big time. They are hours late.

This is not good. Things may have been tight for them at the last second. I hope the game isn't buggy as a result. I don't want to wait a year for an EE. :P

The high res texture pack and character models make a huge difference, although here and there I see a couple of low res textures that stand out.

Previously I played TW1 on a POS computer at low resolution - now it looks really amazing on my HD projector at 1080p resolution with 16 x AF, all the detail settings maxed and max visible distance. This is like a completely new game for me.

Seems like really excellent frame rates so far. There was a little bit of lag in a couple of the cutscenes, but during gameplay my guess is the framerate is around 60fps and I'm using a second tier laptop card (AMD 5830M) BTW. I imagine almost anyone playing on a mediocre desktop should be able to play with the high res textures.

Judging from the complications of their release, who knows. The sh*t is hitting the fan over there right now.

Really pity CDPR.. they really worked hard for it. People should have been more understanding. Geralt sculpture probably be the fault of the publisher. I believe CDPR develop games & does not make sculpture.

No, but they are still responsible for the condition of CE's, where and how they are produced, etc. Also, someone on the site Rage listed said they are just compiling code for the game as of now. I'm no techie, but that doesn't sound good. This type of  last minute stuff does not bode well for an optimised, bug-free game.

@ Ringo. I work in an art foundry so I'm familiar with casting processes. The bust looks like a cheap quality casting on par with decorative garden sculpture, definitely not what I saw Gop holding up to an audience months ago during a presentation of the game. They may have had a master copy, and then mass produced one after the other in a series of successive molds, which reduces the quality and detail of the piece.

Hmm... maybe I better hold off on playing my copy of Witcher 2 for a week and see how things go. In the meantime, I can start a new Witcher 1 EE save and play through that.

Geralt sculpture probably be the fault of the company NAMCO/BANDAI assigned to mass produced. If not mistaken they should be held accountable. Not sure if the code compilation was required due to SONY fux them up.

from www.thewitcher.com (8AM Polish time), translated by me:

"Many thanks to all those who persevered. Again, we apologize. Unlocking the update servers is moved. Since there are many and are scattered all over the world - the process will take time. It began a few minutes ago, and some users may take up to two hours. Thanks again! Once again, sorry!"

The code compilation, if I understood correctly, is for a DLC that should be available at the activation and registration of the game, not for the game. Also, they were having some kind of trouble with their servers.

I'm pretty sure that any damaged material will be replaced, but first things first. They must get their Polish CE numbered copies playing within today and the rest of the world tomorrow before they can worry about a bust! Unless it was Triss'. Then I would fly to Poland and kill 'em all! =)
