I want to keep Bethany around no matter what... Gotta watch out for your little sister.

But not your little brother? Could it have something to do with him not having a big bust?  :P:D

Carver vs Aveline makes more sense than Carver vs Bethany, because the latter would force you into meta-gaming - you'd have to choose Bethany if you play a warrior or a rogue cause you need a mage. Since both Carver and Aveline are warriors, it won't be an issue.

If, however, the choice is Carver vs Mama Hawke than Carver most definitely is not a permanent companion. Again, they wouldn't make you choose between a non-companion NPC and a companion NPC. As horrible as it sounds, what would be the point of saving Mama Hawke - just so she could wish you luck on your journey and go away? If you save Carver, you get an extra companion, so it makes more sense to save him every time.

Or, Mama Hawke is actually a companion! :D

Of course, that's a metagaming choice too--at that exact instant, you have no way of knowing if Carver won't be a companion.

Unless Carver is missing a limb or something. But we do see him in the RtP trailer.

Hey, looking at the london footage, I noticed something. During the gameplay, we see Mama Hawke be chased by Darkspawn and it looks like she will die, so maybe this is when Mama Hawke will die if there is a choice?

I'm thinking it's going to be a choice between Carver and Mama Hawke (like stopping Carver from saving Mama Hawke) or Carver and Aveline (like sending one of them to do something that doesn't look too dangerous and the one sent dies).

Yes, I know, that's what I meant by 'they wouldn't make you choose between a non-companion NPC and a companion NPC' - because that's as much meta-gaming as choosing between a mage and a warrior.
But yeah, you're right, he's in RtP so he's most likely a companion, which is why I'm inclined to think it's Carver vs Aveline.

I hope we can sacrifice Aveline to save Carver, I will be devastated if Bethany dies if I'm a Mage, I wanted to spend time talking about our spellcasting techniques & compare notes on how to fireball effectively. etc.

Awwww <3

Theoretically both, in practice though, probably neither

I really hope it's a choice between Carver and Aveline. That would make the most sense. I don't really want to be able to save both. I'd like a tough decision at the start of the game and it'll give us a bit more replayability because we can get to know a whole new character next time.

So from some screenshots it looks like Carver is salvageable, do we think this will be down to a choice where someone else is lost (like ME Virmire scenario) or do we think he can be saved along ith the others through the right choices being made (like ME2 not really a suicide mission)?

Or maybe someone has differents idea as to how he survives(like that one level in ME, you know the one)?

Since Bioware apparently gave Aveline her own unique model (unique arms), I'm guessing they have something in mind for her beyond Lothering to put extra resources into her.

Bethany is in Varric's exaggerated scene at the start so I'm certain she'll survive, otherwise Varric would have never met her.

I don't think a Carver/Aveline choice would be very good. When faced with a choice between a random stranger and your own brother, how many people would pick the random stranger? Not a pleasant choice, but I'd bet on most people saving their own flesh and blood who they spent their life growing up with over a stranger. (unless Carver turns out to be a total douche, which is a possibility :wizard:)

So if you have to choose between two people, I'm guessing it's Carver/Mama Hawke. Now that would be a tough choice.

Aveline doesn't have unique arms, she has female warrior arms, Fem Hawke can have the same arms as Aveline

Here's an idea: (Carver) OR (Aveline + Mom).

The simplest way to get you to choose that without you literally having to say "Carver, you die. Sorry." is that some darkspawn are attacking from behind or flanking, and Bethany and/or Mama Hawke ask Aveline to hold the line while you defeat the main group. Then she complains that it's risky and much too convenient for your entire family to be able to leave her behind to die if things turn bad.

So you can choose to either reassure Aveline you won't betray her by also leaving your mother under her protection, or ask Carver to hold the line instead. And obviously, you underestimated the strength of those flanking darkspawns, and whoever is left behind dies before you can get back to them. In order to even things out content-wise, I suppose you could have Mama Hawke die of old age after a few years in Kirkwall.

Just a random theory, but it'd feel like a pretty good trade-off to me, and a difficult moral decision (you don't *know* that they're going to die, but you know it's risky).

I just had an idea, and I think it would be cool that if you preorder DA2 you can keep them both alive. Get both siblings as companions. Seems unlikely, but that is what I'll think as I induced myself into a coma awaiting the release date

There's already another thread on the top page regarding this subject. I suggest using it rather than necro'ing an old one.
