If you break-up with a character, can you rekindle the romance?

Specifically, I broke up with Alistair and now I'm having second thoughts. I know, stupid me. :P

I'm fairly far along in the game, way past Goldanna's House (no, he's not hardened, if that makes a difference).

I'm not currently getting any romance-like conversation options from him anymore,
but his approval is still very, very high though, and Duncan's Shield is yet to be discovered...

Is the high approval a bug? (I actually got a +1 for letting him down easy when I broke it off, it seemed)
Or am I getting the cold shoulder now bc I'm still bunking with Zevran (you know, just for the companionship ;).

Or am I screwed and I need to go back to an earlier save, or just suck it up?

Thanks!

It is possible to restart a romance once it's been cut off. It just depends on how it was cut off (certain lines will end it for good with no chance of restarting it).

I'm not familiar with his romance so I can't really help you much. You should ask this in the Alistair gush thread. Odds are someone there will know.

AFAIK, Lelianna was the only LI you could re-acquire after breaking it off but only if you broke up with her before completing her personal quest. Don't know about the other companions.

I have broken it off with Leliana and won her back, AND broken up with Morrigan and won her back, thereby enabling me to sleep with both with no repercussions! <efg>!!!! As it is in RL, its all in how you play the game ;)~

If you've never asked him this question:

If you were raised in the chantry, have you never...?

You can ask him that and restart the romance. That's the only way you can do it though. I once accidentally ended up in a romance with him, I forget how I did it because I usually notice, and I broke it off. Later on it gave me the option to ask him about his lack of experience and he started hitting on my Warden again.

I'm guessing you don't have that option though right? You might have to restart! :(

No, once you break up with Alistair, it is off. You cannot restart it. There aren't even any bugs to exploit in Alistair's romance to restart it. You will NOT get romance starter lines in any of the dialogs. It really is through.

Yeh, Alistair is the only one where you can't restart the romance.  well, you can't restart it with Zevran unless you break up with him after he's in love (which happens late in the game) though he does have one bug that can be exploited.  Leliana of course has that famous bug where it will start with everyone, but really, fixed, only females can restart it after a breakup, though if it's fixed properly, males can start the romance for the first time in that conversation (unfortunately, most fixes don't fix her properly and instead make it impossible for males to start the romance at that point -- i think i have the only mod that fixes her correctly).
