Hi people.

First of all, excuse me for the multiples english errors to come, it's not my native language.

That said, I'm here because I've a problem. I have reinstalled ME1 & 2 to play it again with two separates characters. ME2 works fine, but I've a problem when trying to launche ME1 or when installing Bring down the sky DLC. At a moment, I get an error message from EA. I don't know exactly what it is in english, but it should look like this :

" Important Message

A problem occured while connecting to licence validation server. Check your internet connection and try again in a few moment".

Obviously, if I can post here I must have internet somewhere.

I tried every tips I have been able to find, uninstall/reinstall the game, I patched from 1.00 to 1.01, 1.01a and 1.02, trying to launch the game each time. I shut down my firewall and antivir, opened several port some people said were linked to this game, also tried to look into the file "hosts" in C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc, which was empty except for a kind of explanation of the file.

So, I'm lost, it will soon be 2 days I'm in this situation, I don't even know where the problem come from. So if people have other tips to try or simply can tell me if them too can't play the game, in which case it will mean that EA licence server are down, momentarily I hope.

I thank you by advance for your attention and your answers.

P.S.: Please note that last time I installed it on the same PC it didn't caused any problem. The only change between last time and now is that I bought a 22" wide screen, but it would be a hige surprise to me to learn that the size of a screen has any impact on connection quality...

P.P.S : Ah yes, and I run on XP SP3 32 bits.

My config :
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R
Intel E8500
Radeon HD5830 1Go
2Go DDR3
And for the others things I can't answer you, don't remember it well.

You may find it has nothing to do with your side of things. May be that the validation server is temporarily down, however unlikely. I have had this problem in the passed and persistent retrying usually gets you through.. also check to see if you are capped. stable connection is required

What do you mean by "capped"?

Well, I just tried to launch it 83 times in a row (yes, I counted them), it didn't worked.

I'm very close to use a crack. First time I crack a game I own. <_<

capped: some places around the world have isp's that limmit bandwidth after you exceed the given internet planes download limmit... causing you to drop back down to near 56k speeds which in effect can cause connection instability...
Im sorry but i do find it ammusing that you have tried and counted 83 connection attempts.. lolz..
and also sorry that i have no other ideas for you to try.. it has me stumpted.. Only thing i can suggest is you download it and try again... dont forget to try and run in administrator mode if you have win7 or vista, although your discription shows this is unlikely the casue...
If this fails.... well I have some tricks you can try.. Preferably do not use a crack, dont like them personally.... goto this link where i have given a solition to ME2 DLC problems.. the principle should be the same for ME1
http://social.biowar...6/index/5082737
I just opened it up myself and had a look in the DLC... easy

erm... after you look at that link here is some instructions

once you have extracted the installer you will find 2 files called    "$[82]"    and    "$_OUTDIR".
open     $_OUTDIR   and navagate until you find a folder containing CookedPC, Movies and BIOCredits_DLC_UNC and copy them to you mass effect install location, in a folder called DLC. if it does not exist create it.

so it should look somthing like this  "C:\\ *whatever location it is* \\Mass Effect\\DLC" and in your DLC folder you copy those 3 items into it..... now the other file called     "$[82]"    open it and navigate until you find a DLC_UNC dat file.. copy it into the same directory as the others.. into the DLC folder...

and your done !

I havent had time to test it properly but it should work...  I possibility missed a couple of files to copy... its late and need sleep... let me know if you have any problems..

But it will only work on downloaded version of the game no? I'm playing it with a retail cd version.

Anyway thank you for your help I'll try to see what I can do with it.

Edit : Ah ok, it's for installing the DLC.
