Well, admittedly I did watch Robin Hood recently and everyone was wearing chainmail. I don't think platemail came until later on and I imagine the original materials weren't very light or comfortable at all. Chain is heavy but it's flexible and can be worn easily with leather or cloth.

I'll take half-naked Spartans over plate though.

Plate was sodding expensive. Only nobility (knights) wore it in the Middle Ages. Chain mail was cheaper and more easily mass-produced.

Thankfully, none of the companions are real men, and only half of them are likely to be artificial men.

So, you can walk around the office in plate armor, and we can play a game with a half-naked spartan.

What makes you think I don't already do?

I don't think that. My saying you can do something doesn't mean I think you haven't done it already.

For example, "You can buy alcohol at the age of 21," doesn't mean I assume that you're under 21 or that you've never bought alcohol.

I'm telling you, Thedas metals while solid take quite a bit to puncture flesh, partly because of lack of developing such technology because of Magic which has rendered technological advancements mostly pointless, so even though Dragon Age takes place in the future much of their tech is both advanced and really really old.

Sorry that was a jest. I didn't mean to anger or offend you.

What kind of backwards logic is this? Magic didn't hinder technological advancement. Our old world had it's "magic" Roman soldiers would preform "spells" before battle, it didn't make them shirk wearing armor.

Their magic isn't reality like Thedas magic

The fact that it takes many swipes to cut off someones head with even the most astute of objects, and that the use of the black arts has created a shortcut in ways of killing and advancement which has lead to stagnation

You didn't. I found it idea of you standing at the copy machine in full plate armor amusing.

Really can you tell me which incantations that may be lacking from our or their libraries of arcane study?

Heh, you gotta learn when some posters are being tongue-in-cheek.. Onyx is pro at it.

And yeah, I knew chainmail was cheaper to make but I figured there were other reasons as to why it was popular. Shame it wasn't very common in Dragon Age, but I guess the Fereldans did like their splintmail.

A "coat of plates" Mercenary's Coat or Brigandine, which is pretty much what splintmail is supposed to be was very popular with Mercenaries & adventurers, as it's name attests. It offers a bit more protection than chainmail because it didn't have the ring-holes

Wondering what old acquaintances were up to and seeing what the cool kids are doing.

It appears I need to find myself a signature.

Armor isn't expensive in the Dragon Age universe, full chainmail is only a few gold, so why is everyone in clothes!

It is easier to suspend with armor.

It bugs me too. I happen to find plate armor artistic, and I like how it looks. Half-naked crazy men and women only work if they're celtic berserkers.

You might be planning on not getting hit, but no plan survives contact with the enemy.
Armor is a contingency.

Indeed.  Which is why it is probably a good idea to start trying to suspend disbelief now, so in four months when the game comes out it won't be so irritating.

Well the other question is, would you really want to run around in armor all day? Even if you are not fighting, and say, go shopping in Denerim? How is wearing armor all day more realistic than not doing it anyway?
