I'm sure you have heard by now, that what is thought to be a missile was seen being fired off the Coast of California.

(if someone knows how to embed videos feel free to let me know)

Now I have heard a number of theories for explaining this event. Some range form aircraft, UFO, a private rocket, optical illusion, new military weapon test or a misfire. Today the pentagon has released a statement saying it was in fact a aircraft of sorts. However I doubt that claim after watching the video and hearing several retired Military Officials as well as the Soviets, errr I mean Russians dispute the Pentagon's claim.

Here are a list of news articles about the event.

Whats your take on this?

PS: No politics please.

Private rocket, probably launched by some amature rocketists or some lone genius.

Or Terrorists....

Um, the DOD confirmed today that it was an aircraft. Case of mistaken identity. At least that's what I remember from the radio this morning. I live in SoCal by the way.

Or maybe it's Roswell cover-up #2 or something.

Yet I just don't believe the DOD thought, unless it is a new experimental aircraft I just don't buy it. It clearly looks to be a rocket or missile or sorts. My personal belief is it is a mis-fire or in a worst case scenario that it was a intercept missile that was fired in order to take down a hostile threat and the Government just doesn't want to say anything cause it will cause panic.

But Wicked, my brother's cousin's nephew's lover's boyfriend's uncle agrees with your 2nd statement. What if in someway it was related to Extra-Terrestrials?

(Yeah that was a joke, although I have heard people say that it was a UFO, and technically by definition it is)

Chinese submarine sabre-rattling. Well, it's unlikely, but it makes a good premise for Tom Clancy's next book.

I recommend - especially for Captain Cornhole - reading this.

It's a pretty thorough and definitive identification of the contrail.

What you have is a simple optical illusion, that is explained on the site both in diagrams (with the relevant math), and by actual pictures showing a difinitively identified airplane contrail from various perspectives, including ones that make it look like a missle launch.

The article even identifies the flight that was almost certainly the one causing that contrail - Flight AWE808 from Hawaii to Phoenix - and makes a testable prediction that similar contrails should be seen at specific times from that specific angle, that match up to the plane schedules.

The site is well worth a look.

Oh its aliens, totally aliens. That was the only time they've ever taken off in the daytime, and the government didn't know it'd be that obvious. haha, silly government.

It's totally aliens. Most like the Roswell one that crashed in the 50s escaped and is trying to make it back home. I wish him luck!

Well it looks like he made it if so! I still think the aliens were having some talks with our government. Perhaps they took off in the middle of the day because they were shocked by our terrible appetizers?

Last time I ordered an appetizer was at Denny's and the food got there before the appetizer did! It's no doubt the aliens would be outraged by this!

It looks like an Aircraft, though as for the type not 100% sure but it was definitly coming to the US coast not flying strait up.

Indeed! We, as the human race, need to band together and better serve our alien guests. Time to study this "asari recipe" we learn about in the Cereberus mess hall.

I always though that's what that was, but never knew why. Now that I know I am clearly in need of one too!

I think i'd like to commission a tin foil head wear for my Warden, I think it'd look quite lovely. And fierce.
