So I went to get Viconia (first game, just found out the bandits were in cloakwood). I wanted to get a 5th member (had someone die when I was doing the part just before and need a replacement) but when I rescued her from the Flaming Fist guy she didn't offer to join me. She just said our paths may cross again one day and ran off. What happened? How do I get her to join me?

Maybe your rep was too high?

No, it's pretty low. I assumed that's why Xan did something along the same lines. My rep is almost so low that I get attacked on site by guards (Drow Assassin, no one liked me to begin with....then I started murdering people on top of it :D). So I want to know why she just ditched like that - now I'm stuck with Branwen instead...and she isn't nearly as cool. Or evil.

There is a reaction check in Viconia's dialogue. Rather counter-intuitively, low reputation and/or low charisma can affect evil NPCs negatively during reaction checks (e.g., they'll not offer to join) in BG1. There is some mod somewhere that reverses this, but I forget which.

In any case, you'll need to reload or use the console to create another Viconia if you want to give it another go.

G3 Tweaks would be that mod.

Well ****...yeah my toon has about 9 charisma. Doesn't do me any favors....I guess I've got Branwen instead of Viconia. Kinda disappointing.

The difference between BG1 and 2 is that in BG2 will join you pretty much regardless of reputation and charisma (though they may leave if your reputation hits one of the extremes) and you get a charisma score of 18 for free.

Charisma score of 18 for free? What do you mean?

ring of human influence basically make charisma an useless stat. Though i like the mod that changeit into giving +5 charisma and not setting it to 18 so high charisma character actually benefit from it w/o being overpowered and giving u 18 charisma on ur normally 3 charisma character.

I've never even found said ring. Where is it?

Directly at the beginning of BG2 (Waukeen's Promenade), in the tent where you can save the joinable NPC Aerie.

Ah sh!t, that's one of few things Athkatla that I've never done before. How much Charisma is needed for most NPCs if anyone knows?

It's reputation and charisma together. Unless I misremember, reaction "rolls" are 10 + Rep + CHA, with effects from reputation being given by this table and effects from charisma being given by this table.

In the specific case of Viconia, she doesn't offer to join if the reaction check is less than 8, but it varies between NPCs. Reaction checks are rare in BG2 but common in BG1.
