I'm in total agreement. Best voice acting I've heard in any game.

Very pleased with the VA on almost everything except Steven Blum. His voice is just too distinct and recognizable from game to game, and he is in way too many games which breaks it for me. This year alone I think I recognized his voice from maybe 10 games.

I was pleased to recognize alot of other familiar VAs that I really enjoy. Some of them from I recognized from Fallout 3.

Especially enjoy the VA who I recognize as Pan from Rise of the Argonauts. Duncan's VA is amazing as well.

I agree with the OP. The voice acting, and even the animation acting itself, is brilliant.

This is definitely the best voice-acting I've seen in a game. Alistair definitely is the best acted voice I've ever heard in a computer game, and the facial animation does a really good job in supporting it.

The voice acting was great, and more importantly the writing was excellent. So often even quality voice actors are undermined by crappy dialogues and shallow characters.

You can't really compare this game to Uncharted. Think about the number of characters in this game, the number of quests and plot points that were voiced, the number of NPCs you chatted with, and the sheer amount of dialogue that was written and performed. Each of them was well done.

As an example of the sheer amount of voice overs, try playing the opposite gender from what you played originally. Many many dialogues refer to your gender, meaning that each snippet was recorded at least twice. Uncharted doesn't compare.

Has anyone found a definitive cast list? I recognize so many of the voices. Cam Clarke (at least twice), Tim Russ, Liam O'Brien, Kim Mai Guest... bunches of others too...

(and of course the 'big-name' talent, Tim Curry, Claudia Black and Kate Mulgrew)

Watch the credits.

I did it while waiting for DLC to download.

It's been a while since I've heard a game match VTM:Bs VA. Definitely god-tier.

greeneggsnoham, you have a point. That's why I have (and dialogue) in there. The best voice acting is nothing without some really good writing.

Really, this is one of the things that makes DA:O really, really immersive.

Shale - (Voiced by Barry Williams)[19] Shale is a mighty stone golem that comes from The Stone Prisoner
downloadable content pack. Shale will be available freely to all owners
of a first-hand copy of the game. Those who purchase a previously owned
copy have the option to purchase him for $15 USD.[28][/list]

Haha, I'm pretty sure Greg Brady didn't voice Shale.  I don't think the guy listed on IMDB (Barry Ellis) voiced Shale either.

On topic: I agree, the voice acting in DA is quite good for the most part.

That's incorrect. I forget the name of the actress at the moment, but Shale had voice overs done by a woman.

I wouldn't say that it's as good as VTM:B's, but it's somewhat close. The immersiveness of Vampire's first person view when you had conversations with great characters like Jack, Laqriox, Jeanette, Boss's etc - also backed by great voice acting - makes both its dialogue and as a mechanic itself better on a more whole rounded level. So much that for me, it easily carves its own place in CRPG history; like Planescapes did with its writing.

When getting back to Dragon Age however,  the abundance of choices in dailogue is great (refreshing after having played Mass Effect and Fallout 3), and the voice acting backing it: I have to agree is superb. I love Leliana's ironic innocence that's resonating with her words and Allistair's comic comedic lines and wit. And then there's Morrigan, who's obviously interesting but not in her archetype sense. For she has all the reason to be socially crippled and fits the role of playing victim accordingly, but she simply doesn't. Which her voice actress expresses perfectly.

Just a guess: Eve Karpf?

Shale is voiced by British actress Geraldine Blecker.

I actually think Knights of the Old Republic was a little better. Most of the major characters are good in this game, but a few of the side characters are just bad.

Whilst I love the voice acting in the game, it was saddening to see my character spend the conversations completely silent and almost entirely immobile. I get that it would have been a *lot* more work to include even a couple of choices for PC's, but there was no reason not to include a basic lip sync with the text chosen or some kind of emotion shown.

So yes, great work on what's there, and it's a shame on what is missing¬

In look and delivery Kolgrim was a bit Leonidis-y. Good thing there wasn't a handy well nearby or I'd have ended up in it.

Haha, I wondered if somebody else had noticed! The beard, the crazy armor, the conviction in which he speaks... I almost expected him to start yelling ''SPARTAAAA!'' at the end.

Agree, they have great voice actors... although, I'm surprised I didn't hear Raphael Sbarge (the guy who is voicing Carth in kotor and Kaidan in Mass Effect). He has a very calm voice, nice to listen to. Or perhaps he did voice someone, but I think I'd notice..

Nope, no Raphael Sbarge in DA:O. I'm hoping he'll be back in ME2. I had a total insane fangirl moment and e-mailed him to tell him how much I loved his voice work. He mailed me a signed photo.

"Tassia,
May the Force be with you.
- Raphael Sbarge"

I squeed. I love his voice, I also enjoy how many shows I've seen him on this year.

Yeah, that dude is awesome. He usually plays such bastards though. Like on Prison Break. But he should be in every Bioware game.

I can't say enough about the superb writing in DAO. Alastair's lines are glittering perfection. The party squabbles are unmatched. The voice acting is just top-notch (Morrigan's and Alastair's actors have officially raised the bar). Almost all the NPC interactions in the world are delightfully natural, not simply the party's dialog. Bioware deserves the biggest kudos. They made the best experiential RPG ever. Now, I've played a ton of RPGs that left me cold with the flat writing and worse acting, but, oh! Bioware = swoon!

I thought Loghain was Tim Curry for the whole game until I looked it up and saw otherwise. I don't know the 'Kain' games, but it sounds like a guy doing a really good Tim Curry impression. If that's actually what Simon sounds like, good for him!

ah! yes, I would most definetly say, for a game that has no cinematic movies like Red Alert 3 but it instead has ingame cinematics, it is THE BEST I have ever played. Awesome voice acting awesome animation, BUT, some of the laughter felt rather unreal because their body didn't move with the laughter as such, but NOWHERE near as bad as fallout3/oblivion stoneface. Thats the only real con really is in one or two instances the laughter doesn't look quite realistic, hopefully I haven't ruined that for anyone, otherwise totally epic and it was more awesome than watching the LOTOR movies.

Who voiced the hilarious smiths in Denerim? I could swear the salesperson was done by Billy West, but I didn't find his name is the credits.
