Clarification about rogues and their weapons?

I was under the initial impression that rogues would be able to dual-wield period, meaning some combination of swords and daggers, but after the most recent podcast, I think I was wrong. Mike kept saying "Isabela is a rogue, so she uses her two daggers" and things like that.
If this is right, it strikes me as rather odd. Who duels with a pair of daggers? Duelist was my favorite spec in Origins, and I always wielded two one-handed swords. It would be a shame if that possibility were lost.
I mean, just look how awesome two one-handers can be. Rathbone totally embodies the essence of a Duelist there, with quickness and grace and skill as opposed to brute force. But even if using two swords is out, a sword and dagger seems like it should be the standard.

Rogues who wish to fight in melee (as opposed to archers) equip weapons classified as daggers. They have two slots in which to equip, so you can have seperate weapons, stats, enchants and so on.
However, I think the term dagger has a bit of a misleading weight on it, as people tend to think of tiny knives as the only interpretation. We've been somewhat more liberal, and you will see daggers ranging from short to longer blades over the course of the game, making it possible to look more like a sword and dagger rogue, should that be your preference. Some of the higher-end blades look pretty wicked, IMO.
To be fair, we could have called them Dueling Blades or something, but that carries its own preconceptions, so we opted for simple and took some liberties with size.

Still, where do we stand with non-sword weapons now then? Do we know if axes and maces are still in the game? If they are, they must now be Warrior only, correct?
They are, and they are.
We looked into maces and axes, but by sticking to bladed weapons we were able to put together a distinct combat style for rogues that had significantly more character than if we'd had to accomdate, say, maces, which look rather silly as a backstab, though one could argue that shoving a softball-sized hunk of metal into someone's chest is the height of badass.
Either way, I'm happy with the end result, and warriors and rogues have more space between them, which was always the goal. Apologies to rogue players who loved their axes, but I believe it was worth it.

Well I guess they had the time to make a few extra daggers, since they didn't need to spend any art resources on armor now did they?
Zing!
It's true. All the armor Hawke is wearing was delivered to us by some shady gentlemen with indeterminate accents in return for blueprints to the large hadron collider, and thus required no work.

Not your thunder. Your blueprints! Thanks for those, by the way.

The question is how many armor's are in the game to begin with, or is it like Origins where every type of armor, light, med, heavy looks pretty much the same for the most part anyway? I'd imagine you guys must have massively cut back on loot drops due to the whole lame companion looks decision.
And that is why we made the decision we did, right there. Now followers look unique instead of the same. Love it or hate it, you have to admit it does address a problem.
As to armors, I believe there's at least as many variations as Origins had in terms of model, less in terms of color, but I don't think anyone was all that excited by the subtle difference between brown and tan.
Oh, and there's more light armors, too. Because I think rogues kind of got the shaft in Origins when it came to armor progression.

I actually WAS excited about that XD Not so much that specific example, but the material system, with tints and such... there were some great third-party material recolors that made the armor progression look really neat. Does this comment mean that that system is out?
Nope. I said less, not none.
