Ok, so as I have been running through ME2 with a Infiltrator, Engineer and Vanguard (having a blast playing each ones), one thing I was curious about and keep forgetting to ask is regarding medi-gel.

In ME1, when you were low on health/shields (or members in your party), you would quickly tap the medi-gel key and boom, your health and shields are restored.

Now, unless I completely missed something, the only time I appear to be able to use medi-gel is when a teammate "dies". Is that correct? Assuming that is correct, then you really just hide until your shields regenerate then?

Just clarifying.

Thanks.

You don't have to wait for a team mate to die before you use it. One of the researched upgrades also allows medigel use to restore shields.

As the links that Grey Ranger provides note, you can use Medi-gel for healing; you just have to have the Trauma Module and Emergency Shielding upgrades. Interestingly enough, when done correctly, you only have to go through Mordin's Recruitment Mission without those. After Freedom's Progress, talk to Chakwas, then head to the Citidel. Sirta Foundation on the bottom floor has a Medi-gel Capacity Upgrade, so buy that. Then buy the Serrice Ice Brandy from the Dark Star Lounge on the top floor. When you give the Brandy to Chakwas, agree to have a drink with her, and you'll get the research notes for another Medi-gel Capacity Upgrade.

Finally, in Mordin's Recruitment Mission, there's research notes for a third Medi-gel Capacity Upgrade on a computer at the clinic. At that point, you just need to get the 47,500 Platinum to actually make all four of the upgrades, and you're set for the rest of the game.

And don't forget that getting those three Capacity upgrades also doubles the number of Medi-gels you can carry, as well.

^^ Pefect.  I always do that, it also gets you 4 medigel for Mordin's mission ( from the one from Sirta ) because you don't need Mordin to apply it ( also goes for SR and SG upgrades that you purchase before getting Mordin ).
