When you are doing the 'Nature of the Beast' quest for the Dalish you enter some ruins. Once in there you can find a Life Gem that shows you images and the description says something like "Could it be that they are fightings something older then humans?". Maybe those things where Fex? Meaning that the Fex and the Elfs where the first on Thedas?

I guess nobody noticed the blue dwarfs Varric was fighting in some shots? Those might be the Fex. Or dwarfs with some serious illness?

Well there where going to be some new monsters in DA 2, so I doubt they are Fex.
But still it is an interesting find.

I'm guessing they'll either be "primitive" tribals or an ancient "Precursor" race (most likely of the Abusive Precursor variety).
If the latter, then they'll probably be A) reptiloid or cthulhumanoid.

My vote goes for squid people. I'd love to see a race of Cthulhus.



On a side note, whatever they really are, why have we not seen their Darkspawn equivalents of the Fex yet? ...Unless the Awakening Broodmother is of Fex origin, and the children are Fex Darkspawn.

Because they live on Par Vollen.

But, they have Qunari Darkspawn (Ogres). Since Broodmothers are made from females of a species, and female Qunari (as far as I know) don't leave Par Vollen, they must have occasional Darkspawn raids. As such, it does not make sense that zero female Fex have been captured.

Perhaps the next blight could take place in Par Vollen. That will make things interesting, and make Ogres the stock fighters in the Darkspawn army.
