Correct me but I think that thing isn´t that simple, as Baldur´s Gate would be Interplay´s IP. D&D only holds rights of the system of the game :bandit:

Nope, the Baldur's Gate IP most definitely passed from Interplay to Atari.

And Hasbro (parent of Wizards of the Coast) indeed needs to be in on any rerelease, one of the reasons why the classic Interplay D&D games didn't get released on GoG until a few months ago when they finally reached an agreement with Hasbro.

Who's "D&D"? It's the name of the ruleset/setting. Atari own the rights to the games regardless of developer (I don't think they own anything pre-Interplay, however), and Wizards of the Coast own the D&D rulset itself, which they have licensed to Atari for use in computer games. When Atari gained the rights, they became the owner of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. All recent rereleases have had the Atari badge, for example, and they're now on Gog.com (Again, as mentioned above) due to a deal with Atari.

BioWare don't own Baldur's Gate, but Interplay did. Atari now own it, and neither Interplay nor BioWare have anything to do with the games now beyond BioWare having some BG forums.

I think space sims in general need to return. Anyone else agree?

Oh god yes! Space sim genre has been slowly dying and i for one would love a comeback.

Incredibully enough there are still couple of dedicated multiplayer servers out there for Freelancer with small community of players supporting them.

Well, people thought that aventure sims were dead but then came Uncharted and proved everyone wrong. So it's not entirely impossible.

Ahhh...Prototype.
Almost forgot about that one. It's dead, right? I heard that Activision fired a lot of employees who worked at Radical.

It's a nice game but not very well noticed .
Resonance of Fate is a nice game too but ....IGN .

Primal. They only did the one for PS2, that I would never have bought if it hadn't come with the console, but it was (and still is) my favourite game for the platform for all the years I owned it.

Never known anyone who has played it either, which is probably why they stopped at one, heh.

I've just finished playing through freespace1/2 for the first time and they were amazing. A lot of the staff who made them still seem to work at volition as well, someone really needs to persuade them to make Freespace 3 instead of garbage like saints row!

I agree on Protoype. I enjoyed it a bit more than I did with inFAMOUS.

Another vote for Arcanum. I loved that game, and would love to see a sequel.

Speaking of Space Sims the Colony Wars games for the playstation were incredibly fun, especially the second one Colony Wars:Vengeance.

Volition developed Freespace games but at the time Interplay was working as their publisher. Later on Interplay ran into some financial problems and Volition was acquired by THQ. For what i can seem to gather is that the actual rights for Freespace are still owned by Interplay.  (Correct me if i am wrong :-)

If that is indeed true then i cant see for direct sequel happening. But spiritual successor would either way be awesome, kinda like System Shock -> BioShock, Baldur's Gate -> Dragon Age.

Some have allready been posted, but anyway:

Homeworld - it was just sooo good.

Vampire the Masquerade - still has very loyal followers.

Lands of Lore - i really miss Westwood :(

Master of Orion - such a great series and a classic.

Paraworld - it was way underrated from the RTS community.

Sacrifice!

Dune :D

can´t think of more right now...

Shenmue as many people have said.

As for another Vampire: the Masquerade game; I can't see that happening under that name. I don't think White Wolf would give the green light to an old world of darkness game.  A Vampire: the Requiem (the new world of darkness equivalent) game I can see.

I've been hearing about that World Of Darkness MMORPG as way back as 2005. It's never going to happen.

I've been thinking about a new Vagrant Story alot, but with the current quality of Square Enix games, i'm not so sure anymore. That game is one of my all time favorites, only really triumphed by BG2 actually.

Too Human, I like the class system and the leveling system, and it was pretty fun ripping apart massive amounts of enemies and trying to get all the gear you can.

Yeah, you're probably right.  If they could get at least some of the original development team from Vagrant Story then I would be all in favor of it but if it turns into a linear, 30 hour grind through Cgi cutscenes overbloated with pretentious, anime-esque melodrama then I'll pass.

I remember hearing something about an enhanced remake coming to the PSP similar to what they did with Final Fantasy Tactics(which takes place in the same universe as Vagrant Story).  I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Back on topic...

this has probably been mentioned but GOD DAMN would I not KILL for a sequel to Eternal Darkness.

I'd also like to see "Mace: The Dark Age" back. It was an underrated fighter imo and I loved the story. Theme music for each character was great.

I'd love to see a Mace reboot, to see what they do with the composition of Takeshi's, Executioner's, and Al Rashid's themes.

That's part of why I said I could see a Vampire: the Requiem game happening.  My main point was why another VtM game wouldn't happen.

According to here http://www.shacknews...article.x/65747 that MMO is going to be based on  Vampire: The Masquerade. Its still some years off.

SO I guess VtM can get moved over to the "not dead IP colum"

Blizzard will never resurrect Starcraft Ghost.  Even they could tell it would have bombed if released.
