I don't consider a tough girl fighting in the alliance to gain respect back for her family name despite having deep personal issues with alien relations to be flat. Also, that same tough girl has a penchant for poetry and deep love for her three sisters, still one dimensional? How about a krogan who has lost faith in his own race and lives his life traveling the galaxy, gladly clearing away stupid, violent krogan even though his race is slowy becoming extinct? I could go on...

Face it, people prefer ME writing.

I can agree that the main plot was better in ME1, as will most people, but ME1 party members were the worst party members BioWare has ever made. They were all boring as hell.

And you wanna talk about writing? Go check out the threads with epic lines and see that most lines people post are from ME2. ME2 had far better writing in dialogue, there was more humor, more epic lines etc.

Here :

Humor? Epic lines?

Duke Nukem is probably more quotable than ME2, but does that mean the writing is better?

Rightttttttttttt, thats why most people prefer ME 2. And  I've seen comments everywhere from youtube to other sites, this isn't the only site, and many people have professed their love for the story and writing in ME 2, even if it isn't as good as ME 1, which it isn't. And I;ve seen articles, esp one back around when ME 2 came out, with someone saying ME 2's writing is better than most movies today, and compared it to Avatar saying its better written.

Point is, don't say most people prefer ME writing, or even the game itself, because thats so far from the truth, even if the game does have better writing and plot. You know it be true Kraidy, do I have to pull up all those old polls with the mojarty voting in ME 2's favor?..

Fact is alot of people don't hate ME 2 as much as the few haters on here do, even if they slightly prefer ME 1 or whatever. Most people enjoyed ME 2, fact.

True.

But then you have Garrus who does nothing to impact the plot in anyway and doesn't do anything at all but complain about his job.

Tali who was only just a plot device to get you off a citadel and nothing more (and a quarian wikipedia).

Liara who was probably the lamest character in my opinion since she only existed as a LI and had no real development at all.

And Kaidan who was actually one of my favorites.

Liara: I enjoyed her calm, history detective story. Not to mention that whole, new to romance and humans angle. I really do love the LotSB arc tho.

Kaiden: Me too, mrsph, a rough childhood forced on him by being born a biotic. Yet, he has the calm demeanor of philosopher by not judging all aliens based on the terrible way he and his friends were treated in "school".

I will disagree. Except for Garrus, I liked all the squadmates in ME and they where all written well. They at least talked to me in ME.

ME2 in fact made me not care abiut Tali anymore.  Liara, Ash and Kai where screwed hard. It took a DLC to fix Liara, that should not happen at all. When I buy a game from Biwoare, I expect quality writing. When ME2 first came out I was excited, happy to be playing it, came on the site, and protected ME2 a lot. I then decided to go back to ME and get my characters ready for import. This is where I changed my stance on ME2. I enjoyed playing ME more, yes I already knew where the story was going but I still enjoy the game. Level design sucked,  combat sucked sucked, but good characters, strong writing and the amtopshere kept me back in ME. I didn't play ME2 for a long time until LotSB was out. You can beleive that I will change my stance on ME but it will not happen.

lol, yes. I'm replaying ME1 for the first time in awhile and thought this many times.

ME2 has its share of flatness tho. Grunt is cool but he doesn't really change much, in the same way as Garrus in ME1, i think.

ME 2 def had better written characters, and the dialogue with TIM was amazing. ME 2 had good writing, just not a strong story like most sequels. It's characters and the events of ME 1, and things like the Genophage, Geth, is what kept ME 2 going. I look at both games as being one, like this whole trilogy, connected. Everything will fall into place in ME 3, regardless of what the lost estanged ME 2 haters have to say.

Tali and Garrus at least talk to you in ME, in ME2 it's either romance or get out. They have the least conversations in the whole game.

Ironic, considering they're two of the most popular characters in the series.

In ME1 I found Kaidan rather boring and somewhat whiny, Tali was just "there" (Why are you on my ship again?) and Garrus was somewhat one-dimensional. (Cop tired of the red tape? Well you can shoot so come along if you want.)

However Wrex was a complete badass and kinda overshadows people. I haven't played ME1 in a while now, but I don't remember that much more dialogue on the ship than you had in ME2.

There is some kinda link to there to the inability to scrog them in ME1. I suppose Wrex was the only one significantly alien enough to be immune to that.
I don't get it either, but thats the horrible truth.

This is really only noticeable with Garrus. Since you get Tali in the latter half of the game.

Wrex was def the best one. And ME 2 had way more talks, esp with Thane for example, I remember having way more talks with him than anyone in ME 1.

Also, what about Joker and EDI? Now thats just good writing right there, another character who was better written in ME 2.

Mordin, Miri, Thane, Legion and Samaa aret he only characters I liked in ME2. Garrus got an imporvment at least, Tali was a disapointment,Zaeed and Kasumi are half characters, Grunt needs more dev, Jack was meh.

TIM, SB, Tela and Archer where good, but there are too many few moments that where amazing. The suicide mission was a cop out because it's too easy. I don't feel rewarded getting everyone out, I feel insulted for calling this easy mission a suicide mission.

The point is Tali and Garrus had a lot of potinal, and Bioware did not deliver, they wanted to focus these two characters on there romance. We haven't seen them for two years, there is a lot they could have talked about.

I felt Grunt was a lot more interesting than Wrex. I love Wrex but he is still that generic mercenary that Bioware loves.

ME 1 had Wrex who probably had the best dialogue and most interesting. Who else? Liara? Ash? Kaiden? Tali was an afterthought, thrown into the back by the engines and never heard from. Garrus had a few more convos in ME 1 than 2, but wasn't that interesting, just cool as hell to be around. Atleast in ME 2 when you first seen him, its awe-epic. Then going through that whole mission plus the little talks, and then his loyalty quests and the very long couple of talks with him make him way more interesting and better in ME 2.  ME 2 Garrus makes me love ME 1 Garrus even more. Tali is pretty much the same way.

Their both treated as main characters much like Thane, Mordin and all. ME 2 had an allstar cast, ME 1 had Wrex, hell even with Kaiden, you cared more for him when he died. ME 1 relied on a plot moment to make both Ash and Kaiden ever better... ME 2 characters, or most of them didn't need that.

Wouldn't "Plot moment" be the loyalty missions?
