Hey all

Just finished my first playthrough of origins clocking in at about 54 hours with 75%+ side missions complete. How long is the awakening campaign including actively doing the side quests?

It took me about 13 hours, with about 95% of the side quests done, minus a few bugged ones that wouldn't trigger. I had to play through twice, as the first time I hit the infamous bug in the Silverite Mines. Awakening is good and has so much potential, but it's just too short after Origins.

I took 20-odd hours last time. Note that it usually takes me around 60+ hours to complete DA:O + DLC (about 2/3rds the time it first did).

It usually takes me around 15 - 16 hours doing everything (as well as getting all possible dialogues).

Origins on the other hand usually takes me 65+ hours (my first run actually took me 100+ hours).

This is why when told that DA2 will be "longer than Awakening but shorter than Origins", I really can't draw any conclusions about its possible length.

Thanks for the info. I was gonna give dragon age a rest for a while as id invested all those hours into it but if awakening is not that long well thats only a weekend playthrough...might as well get started

I did everything in about 15 hours, I suppose you could stretch that to 20 if you really took your time. Overall, some of the new skills are interesting, but it's far from origins in terms of quality, felt very rushed, shallow characters etc.

I wouldn't say the new characters are especially shallow, it's more that you don't get as much opportunity to really get to know them as you do in Origins. Mostly down to the shorter playing time I think, what's there is just as well written as DA:O. Nathaniel is particularly well done IMO. Didn't think it was any poorer quality or either, they just had (understandable) limitations on what they could do with an expansion with less resources. You'd really have been talking about DA:O 2 for more, and Awakenings was never intended to be that (as much as many players, myself included, might have wished it to be).

Admittedly, if I'd paid the price the console versions reportedly were I'd have been far less happier with it (rather than £15 for the PC version).

You can do it in five hours. You can speed it in about three.

I'm sure you could speed through it in that time, but why would you even want to ?

It's pity really, as if Awakening was more fleshed out, I think it would have made a lot of people happy. All the elements are there for what could have been a stunning expansion of the DA universe. I enjoyed it, and would have loved to have spent more time with the characters, but sadly I couldn't. So much potential there, such a pity it's brought down by bugs and other issues.

I was a fan of Anders, Sigrun and Nathaniel. I thought the characters were well done, though as previously mentioned, you don't get as much time to spend with them as you did during Origins.

I'm surprised that people say that Awakening is so short. A typical Origins playthrough for me is ~100 hours and I believe that my last Awakening playthrough was around 40. I guess I'm just extremely thorough.

Perhaps one day, the modders can add new locations to the Awakening map like they've done for Origins. The mods have been great and they're free (sorry console users - no mods for you). It would be nice to see more locations to explore with the new companions in Awakening.

That's insane! What did you do to make Awakening last 40 hours!?

Probably spent about 15 hours just doing Runecrafting. My PC and Anders went in and out of the Throneroom so many times together I'm sure the other companions thought something was going on. It was really annoying that Anders could not craft runes in Throneroom and I didn't want to waste Talents to take up Runecrafting. Always running short of ingredients or runes and having to go back to the vendor to get more.

I do every quest, fully map out every dungeon, make sure no enemy is left standing, etc. I'll also try to trigger random battles and get as many as I can, though they are hard to trigger on Awakening.

I can spend 5-10 hours during some questlines. It's funny how people can finish Awakening during the same amount of time that I spent in Blackmarsh or Kal Hirol alone.

Do most people always run or skip through dialogue? I also only messed with runecrafting to get the grandmaster fire and lightning runes needed for the related quests.

I listen to all the dialog but always run. Maybe that's the difference?

Perhaps? I got into a habit of walking to avoid running into traps before my party spotted them, and I do stop often to pan the camera around, to look for loot and other interactive objects.

My total Awakening playthough may have been less than 40 hours, but it was definitely more than the 10-15 hours that most people have posted. I can spend 5-10 hours during some main story questlines, just mapping out dungeons, collecting every lootable item, killing every enemy and etc. I don't do speed runs.

I don't do speedruns either.  My first DA:O lasted over 100 hours.  Awakening...  12 hours i believe.  And that was doing exploring, hearing all the dialog, doing all the quests, killing everything everywhere.  It actually seemed to be going at a decent pace then suddenly this rushed ending and boom, over.

It usually takes me about 20 hours or so but if you are into respeccing your companions and runecrafting for everybody then it can take quite a bit longer.

First run-through of origins was 19 hours. First run-through of awakening was I think 12 pm - 6-8 pm. :P So about 6-8 hours? I've played both of them many, many times. Actually working on a Dalish rouge on Origins, really taking my time with this one. Spent atleast 10-11 hours and haven't even finished a main storyline. I'll be finishing Urn of sacred ashes story tomorrow. :P Once done with Origins i'll move on to Awakening. ^_^

Wakening also only took me a few hours and really though I like the game, I thought the epilogue blurbs didn't make any sense at all. I guess I shouldn't have read them. I was disappointed to not have more of Alistair and I find it disappointing that Bioware has decided to go in a totally new direction with DA2 instead of using the lore of the warden commander and and the original team. I doubt I'll play DA2 though we will buy it because my son will play it. BTW Bioware, you need to work on your epilogue blurbs. What happens to the warden when she is princess-consort makes absolutely no sense at all. If she's married to the king, she's not going to run off to la la land by herself to never be seen again. She'd either stay at court permanently or take Alistair with her (which is the epilogue for when the warden is not married to Alistair.) Makes no sense.

It doesn't make any more sense why the warden runs off to do the events in Amgarrak. It's like they're a sword for hire.

The best Origins outcome for Awakening would probably be any that have the Warden trying to rebuild the Grey Wardens. Otherwise, it would seem strange for the Warden to leave court to go rush off for Amaranthine.

At least I got to see Alistair in the beginning, and I liked the new cast, even more than many of the Origins party members. It's just too bad that Awakening is so short, and you don't get as much time to spend with them. Anders, Nathaniel and Sigrun were my favorites.

The Warden was invited to go to Amgarrak on recommendation from the King of Orzammar - a King that the Warden put on the throne. Is s/he going to refuse? The Warden goes to Amaranthine as requested by the King/Queen of Ferelden which s/he put on the throne. Is s/he going to refuse?

Amaranthine is also where the the First Warden of Weishappt has taken an interest to send staff and logistical support. As the only active Warden in Ferelden, are you going to refuse?

Just as you were honor-bound to defeat the Blight, so are you to do these things asked of your station by Kings.

Jerrik Dace asked the king of Orzammar for help and they suggested the warden who came running after receiving a letter from a complete stranger. It just seemed odd that they happened to not be busy and would rush into the unknown, and told to come alone so Jerrik could keep the location of Amgarrak a secret. After escaping Amgarrak, I couldn't see the warden going through that again unless they wanted to go to their calling early.

The Warden was put in charge of the wardens of Ferelden, and went off to Amaranthine to rebuild the order in Ferelden with the new lands acquired and set aside for the wardens.  That's a bit different than answering a request from a complete stranger to investigate a thaig and told to come alone.
