I actually thought it made sense after my Warden married Alistair and learned there were still Darkspawn around to run off to Amaranthine to secure the hold, get rid of the remaining darkspawn and begin to rebuild the Wardens. I figured (and Alistair said) he'd have much to do to secure Ferelden/bring the Bannorn in line after the Blight so one of us had to get the Warden work of ridding the land of darkspawn done. Once those things were handled, I figured I would leave one of the new Wardens - Oghren or Nathaniel - in charge of the hold and the Wardens then run back to Denerim, having made the country secure, and work on making babies so there was an heir to the throne before the Calling. I even imagined there could be plenty of work to be done to get the elves and dwarves more involved with the other peoples of Ferelden which would be a perfect PR project for the Warden to work on while raising children. Heck, the Warden has 30 years to live after the Joining - there's plenty of time after killing the archdemon to handle the Awakening issues, then get on with the rest of the projects to build the Wardens and make a more secure Ferelden!

Jerrik Dace asked the king of Orzammar for help and they suggested the warden who came running after receiving a letter from a complete stranger. It just seemed odd that they happened to not be busy and would rush into the unknown, and told to come alone so Jerrik could keep the location of Amgarrak a secret. After escaping Amgarrak, I couldn't see the warden going through that again unless they wanted to go to their calling early
We can only speculate as to the King's involvement in this proposal. Perhaps the letter was written with the royal seal of Orzammar or some such to indicate that it was correspondance from the King. Or, perhaps there was a sizeable contribution from House Dace to the Warden's Keep Fund.
According to the post-epilogue balloons from Origins, the Warden would know that the King (whether it be Harrowmont or Bheylen) is having difficulties maintaining control over the Council and disgruntled noble houses. As a favour to the King whom the Warden placed on the throne, I could see my Warden doing "one more task" as it were.

Considering how my Warden felt about the way golems were originally made, I could see her going to stop whatever new horrors were being made. But there's no way in hell she'd go investigate on her own without having 1 or 2 people she trusts to be with her. It's not the Blight so she doesn't have to take chances on recruiting whomever agrees to help.

Actually one of the lines in Awakening was that the choice to go to Amaranthine wasn't the Warden's option. She didn't have a choice in it. Alistair requested it and she had to go. They just needed to have some dialogue changes for those female wardens who married Alistair and for those who didn't and Alistair stayed a Grey Warden, he should have been involved in it. The seneschal (sp) states that there is only one Grey Warden but there are actually two. I really didn't find the expansion to my liking but played DAO six times.
