Does Bioware hold an "anti 3D stance"?

I've noticed Bioware has not shown any interest in 3D glasses, etc.   There has been zero support for 3D for any of their games.

Given the nature of grand adventure and epic storytelling in their games, you would think they would embrace an additional layer of technology that would increase immersion.

I really hope Bioware patches Mass Effect & Dragon Age making them totally 3D ready with cursors, cross hairs and 2D images rendering correctly in 3D.

I also hope Mass Effect 3 & Dragon Age II will be 3D-ready.

The obvious reason for why Bioware have had zero support for any of their games is because that Mass Effect 2 came out early this year and 3D gamenews didn't start to pop up until the E3 convention that was this summer. Neither Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2 is still far from complete and we can only wait and see what news the gods of roleplay will bring to us.

To be fair 3d studio supported games only started cropping up this year with Resident Evil 5 and Avatar for PC being the first I think.

So Bioware isn't behind. Doesn't any game work with 3D anyway?

3-d is a stupid gimmick designed to sell tvs. until you get a glasses-free experience it will never hit mainstream (and it's still unlikely to anyway). consider how long HD adoption has taken, and that's with apparent benefits to the experience - 3d doesn't have that.

They don't need to jump onto every gimmicky bandwagon.

Well I'll tell you guys from experience that 3D looks great with Bioware games, especially Mass Effect & Dragon Age. I'm not overhyping it either.  However it has it's problems.  There are very very minor problems that could be fixed but Bioware refuses to do so.

The actual 3D looks beautiful but there are problems with cross hair, 2d mouse cursors and 2d gui/huds.  These would require minor attention and workarounds.  Hell, even the community could fix half the problems if Bioware would provide just A LITTLE bit of support.

I know Bioware could remedy this, but my conclusion is that they are ANTI 3D.

I would really like to hear from Bioware about their support for 3D. It's actually a good thing Bioware is working with EA.  As much as EA can be the bad guys they understand that 3D is a step in the right direction.

Didn't you guys see Avatar in 3D? It was amazing.  I would like the same experience when I play games.  I don't mind shutter or polarized glasses.

On a side note, LED 3D TV's are crap. BUT DLP 3D is amazing.   DLP is pretty much the same technology they use in the theaters when you watch 3D.

They don't bother for the same reason that Mass Effect 3 won't have Kinetik? Whatever it's called that thing that's a Nintendo Wii but X Box 360 that nobody will care about in 6 months.

It's silly. Gimmicky and nobody actually buys it.

Mass Effect & Dragon Age look really good in 3D actually.

The 3D part is for real. but developers need to put checks in place for the 2D aspects of games.

I hope so.

I've played DAO in 3D, but Mass Effect 2 has too much issues even with the tweaks I found here : http://www.mtbs3d.co...hp?f=109&t=5627

Don't think they're anti 3d. Its just 3d, well, it isn't a revolution in the entertainment industry, it isn't becoming a major thing like 5.1, or widescreen did. So there is no real reason to dive in and fully support something which a tiny percentage of people use.

3D, as it stands at the moment, will probably end up into that niche of amBX and smell o vision with very few people actually developing for it.

read that it might become a competition between 3D and hologram displays in the near future. At least if we shall believe DVICE

Personally, I'd rather NOT see a game like Mass Effect 3 utterly delayed by annoying 3D display support. Mass Effect does not 3D to own everything else out there. 'Nuff said.

3D tech is still in its early stages, it would be quite a waste for bioware to support 3D just for 1% of the audience, it costs money, money which could go towards making new levels, items and stuff.

It's about rendering the cross hair in 3D instead of 2D.

That's it. lol.

That's all they have to do, OR just allow us to toggle the cross hair on or off.

VERY little things are needed for 3D to work properly.

In mass effect 1 you can't toggle the cross hair on or off..... That small small change would make the game SO much more enjoyable in 3D.

It's the little things Bioware just don't seem to care about doing. VERY VERY LITTLE THINGS.

The thing is the changes required are VERY minimal.

All us 3D people need is a way to turn off a cross hair or give us a 3D crosshair/mouse cursor.

Instead of rendering text in 2D, just render it in 3D.

I can assure you that rendering in 3D is not simple. It takes a lot more information and a lot more calculations. When you start requiring matrices for projection in the third dimension, calculation times can rise by large factors.

Performance is also a problem.

Black Ops has a major drop in FPS when you use 3D. I dont think the tech is quite efficient enough.
