What a lot of people keep forgetting is that we haven't seen any of the "normal" combat in the trailers yet; we have been seeing the "exaggerated" combat sequences.

We've seen plenty of the "normal" in leaked videos.  The animations do not change.

In the exaggerated combat sequence:

* Monsters more or less insta-gib
* There are no cooldowns on abilities so you see more ability animations in a shorter time, but they aren't different, just strung together
* More HP and Stamina, I believe.

So while the exaggerated portion isn't an accurate reflection of typical gameplay, the animations are the same.

hot rod samurai

I maintain that someone needs to make that movie.

Would it have a samurai who drives a hot rod?  Or would the samurai turn into a hot rod like a Transformer?

The first one. John Woo would direct it.

classes: It seems DA2's class system is aimed more at choosing "How do I want my character to fight."

That's a very good way of putting it.

lv12medic wrote...Length: Length is usually a poor measure as to how decent a game is, and how much actual content there is. Longer length can add more opportunities for extra content to be there, but those opportunities have to be taken advantage of. And if you try to cram too much in, it just clutters up the experience.

Not to mention the effect of filler. It'd make it longer, but no one wants it.

While there is alot to be questioned since BW is still sitting on any frakking info about anything PC related.. I just dont know anything to form a opinion yet, and its quite annoying. xD

So without knowing anything about DA2 i gues im hoping that they will keep the funtime party banter we saw in DAO. If they dont and just make it like ME2 with a one liner here & there i might send em a package of my dogs leftover just to show how disappointed i am. =d

At this point, I'd be suprised if BW didn't put 'Hot Rod Samurai' armor in the game as an easter egg.

I would love that.

I think it'd be fantastic. A cute reference that doesn't feel condescending or petty.

In any case, I'm not sold about the companion armor. I'm glad we can change the stats and all, and I'm pleased they get their own looks (I always kept Morrigan in her robes), but I would have liked for them to be able to wear any armor and simply have unique, restricted outfits.

I don't know how much I like the new darkspawn look. The saving grace is that it, from a lore perspective, makes more sense than the previous design did, and the fact I didn't really like those darkspawn anyway. Gigantic purple gorillas with horns didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Female character models. Don't like those, but I'm sure everyone has heard that from me at some point. If anyone answers "no" I'm going to start randomly bringing it up in every thread so everyone knows me as the "DA2 boob girl". That is my goal.

The Easter egg should be an NPC version of Miyamoto Musashi, who will jump out of a gigantic birthday cake for Hawke and force anyone who has used the term "Hot Rod Samurai" to read The Book of Five Rings.

Monica, begging people to stay on topic probably increases the odds of someone posting about the Hot Rod Samurai easter egg. Which I think was a great idea, btw.

Yes Schuback the immersion of dark fantasy style of the witcher 2 its awesome :) i like it too

I'm curious to know.  The Witcher 2's dark atmosphere looks great but are you familiar with the new combat system?  It's far from a "traditional" RPG experience and it really sounds like you shy away from more action oriented gameplay.

monica.....your argument about paraphrases makes very little sense.....everything else is so subjective that really cannot be argued without descending in a "I like this better........no I like this better" kind of contest

What themes do you call dog singing?

Please, no heavy or hard rock. Please. I don´t want another Warrior Within.

I like almost everything I've heard so far, but the two things that have me squeeing the most are the rivalry system and the voiced protagonist.

I do, however, have concerns. One is regarding the framed narrative and the time jumps. I wonder how that will affect the flow of the story and affect relationships specifically. I don't know for sure that it will will be OMG AWFUL, so I'll just have to see it in action I think.

Another is that I'm still not super excited about the new darspawn look. They're much less prominent than they were in DAO though, and I can testify that, from playing the demo, it's really hard to be upset by it. When I had other things on your mind and wasn't just staring at every pixel of a screenshot, I had no trouble accepting them as darkspawn.

Finally, I don't like that (it seems) rogues can't use swords. To me, it runs counter to the idea of a Duelist, and in fact it contradicts DAO because Isabela wielded a sword and dagger. Duelist was by far my favorite spec in DAO, and the idea of being a Duelist with a pair of daggers just doesn't sit right with me at all. I preferred two one-handed swords in DAO, but I would be perfectly satisfied with a one-hander and a dagger (in fact, that would more closely fit my own personal idea of what a Duelist is).

Fortunately, none of these things, even combined, are anywhere near enough to make me consider not buying the game.

I dunno if this has been discussed already, i'm pretty sure in some other thread but is anyone else a bit dissappointed that you can choose your race anymore? Don't get me wrong, im still really looking forward to this game and it is looking impressive but a big part of me went "nooo" when I realized I cant play an elf or dwarf anymore? I mean humans are a bit boring to play, the only think I liked being human in origins was that you are royalty...for me humans are bit annoying in origins:D

It might have been mentioned once or twice. ^_^

I am personally an Elf fan, and I'll admit that my first reaction upon hearing the announcement for DA2 and that the PC would be Hawke and not the Warden, I was melodramatically crying nooooooooooo while shaking a fist at the heavens. But I think Hawke is sounding pretty cool, or more accurately, the storytelling potential surrounding Hawke, like having one or more siblings around, and his mother. I have a feeling that restricting the PC to human might mean that there will be twists in the story a lot more personal than in DAO. Some paternal reveal scene or something, perhaps. It seems like roleplaying freedom is often inversely proportional to the tightness or increased influence of plot, and this, I bet, is going to end up being a perfect example of that.

I don't care for the way rogues (judging by leaked footage of rogue Hawke) hold their twin daggers. The actual attacking, though over-the-top, doesn't bug me that much-it is a video game after all. It's just super-stylized.

I'm also concerned about the difficulty curve, but we won't truly know about this until we play it. I just worry that the game will be too easy for too long. However, that footage of that guy running around like a chicken with its head cut off as Bethany while Hawke and Avenline died, and kept using the basic attack over and over again went a long, long way towards soothing that worry.

Yeah, the demo was actually surprisingly difficult. It certainly looked like it should be easy, but multiple times I looked over at the hp bars to find them gone or as close to gone as they could be (since they made you unkillable for the demo). It was sort of a wake-up call.

My concerns:

classes appear to be far too restricted eg. no dual wield involving a sword and no bard, ranger or AW specs.

The lack of customisation for companion armour/outfits.

Well, the credits theme.  Anything would be preferable to that garbage.

On a serious note, I was being a bit sarcastic and the credits theme doesn't factor into it, I just don't like the music in DAO very much. I'm not asking for rock music, just something more distinctive and memorable, in line with their goal on the visual art direction.
