So my general understanding is that the auto-created "Epilogue" save, which you can use to play DLC after completing the game is also intended to be the file that you import into Awakening and/or DA2.

My question is that according to the timestamps between the save I made before the AD and the Epilogue file, as well as the file I manually created Post-Coronation, the Epilogue auto-save occured before I made my final decisions at the endgame ceremony, like choosing your boons and so on. So... should I import the Epilogue? Or Post-Coronation?

You should have asked your question in the Awakening sub-forum, but I would say if you're unsure then import the post-coronation.

The auto-created save won't include your final decisions. Import the post-coronation save.

You can also buy/sell from dlc vendors and complete any unfinished dlc after your post-coronation save. This could help you bring a bit more money with you to Awakening, and if any of your companions are wearing anything that you think might be useful to future Awakening allies, then you can un-equip them and bring their gear too.

Ah, I've yet to actually play Awakening. I just recently deleted all my old characters and have started up 3 new Wardens so I can have 3 very different world states to import to DA2. So I'm gonna get them all past the Archdemon before I get Awakening, Golems and Witch Hunt.

Thanks for the answer!

Btw...most dlc gear won't transfer over. The exception seems to be anything from Return to Ostagar. Cailan's armor and weapons will transfer to Awakening, but no starfang, warden commander armor, blood dragon armor, dead thaig shanker, harvest festival ring, etc. It's not a huge issue though, as Awakening will give you many items that are as good or better than those in Origins, and you will quickly feel overpowered. Don't be surprised if you see yourself playing on nightmare difficulty.

Actually, the stuff from Stone Prisoner (ie Dead Thaig shanker, Cadash Stompers) will transfer to Awakening the followup DLC's. At least, it does on the PC. The Blood Dragon armor does NOT transfer but I've found a way to do it by modifying the Addins.xml file and adding the Blood Dragon armor as a sub-module to Awakenings, GoA and WH - it's similar to what Bioware did with their DLC gear.

Only the stuff from Warden's Keep does not transfer.

On PC, I believe there is a mod that allows the Warden's Keep loot to import. Might work for Blood Dragon too. But I should be switching to Cailan's Armor and the Summer Sword near the endgame if all goes well so I shouldn't need it. But it does exist!

Since you said starfang will not cross over, could this be why my warrior started out with a bow? The fact that the beginning was easy enough until I got a 2 handed weapon, I still wanted my Starfang.
