One minor reflection is that while at times I would like to be wielding daggers instead of Starfang, I enjoy having three rune slots and at 16th lvl, no Dragonbone daggers are yet available besides Rose's Thorn which I already use.
Solo note: Be sure to get your Backpacks as early as possible. I am just adding grenades to my usual inventory; cannot fathom how many extra shopping trips are needed for those toting poisons, traps, etc.

Dragonbone daggers are available once you've done Warden's Keep and reached level 12. I sold the Crow daggers from Zevran and Cesar to Mikhail for a nice cheap triple runeslot, +15% crit damage pair. I upgraded Duncan's dagger the same way.
I was under the notion that Dragonbone required 17th, or is that just for armor?

heh! Not yet, but should occur before the Landsmeet. It is not as beneficial for an auto-attack build as with one that uses multiple modes and active Talents/spells. Only two modes I have at this time are Momentum and Duelist, and I just added the latter for +10 Attack.

Some magic resist gear/runes should prevent that.DWSmiley wrote...
Well, my solo rogue has hit a wall - in Awakenings of all places. I don't see how a solo rogue can defeat the Baroness. When she gets low on hit points she grabs and Drains. It restores something like 2-3,000 hit points for her and there seems to be no way to prevent it.

The two blighted shadow wolves were the only other challenge so far (Dragonbone Wastes completed, just the Father and Mother left). The Awakenings Battledress and rock salve gave me ac 37 plus lots of hit points from the Vitality skill but I still couldn't survive the two overwhelms.
3 Paragon stout runes and the legionaire scout specialisation should make every fight for a rogue trivial in awakenings.

I tried that and it didn't help. According to the wiki, her Drain is not classified as magic.tonnactus wrote...

Yes, a well-timed Strength of Stone should do the trick, too.tonnactus wrote...

I have one injury caused by the auto-kill function of the Shade near the Grand Oak. I decided it was not worth the reload or reformation of the party to keep this a perfect score. However, I will add this to my small stack of reasons to raise Willpower past 20.... *smirks*
Note: Small quirk over the course of the game has Dog credited with a few Kills (nobody else), yet nothing is listed specifically in the summary; not even a Deepstalker. Unless Growling or Howling can kill, I will chalk this one up to unobserved assists, and be content with 99%.

If you go there without companions you don't get injured (you don't die at all; one of the nice things happening playing solo). I've only got myself injured in Jarvia's hideout - accidently took all loot (Jammer's stash)

The toughest battle in the deep roads for me is the genlock forgemaster. Not the broodmother or branka.
Don't forget the Queen; she can be very hard on your own without proper gear - her nasty spit can cause all sorts of problems.

I know, but did not want to waste trips and time escorting Wynne to her student; hence the reformation remark. And she had Revival, which still gave me the kill.

You must not have let Wynne bathe Dog. He's felling enemies with his stench.Elhanan wrote...

I figured out how to have less Leliana guilt next solo play. I shall wait until she has combat stealth before taking her out on the road. When Marj's hired assassins attack, she can safely slip into the shadows while I take care of business.

Nice guess, but incorrect. After gaining improved Circle obtained kadis and collars is always a good time for Dog to get cleaned up for his new shinies. I figure it must be trees that have been dominated....

This works great for my solo game. I have Self > When Attacked by melee > Dirty Fighting, followed by Self > When Attacked by by Melee or Ranged > Stealth, and she has survived quite well singing Courage or Captivating ballads during the various encounters. And it is quite pleasing to finally have a good occasion to use that last Bard song after all this time.

But the Mabari throughout the keep were surprisingly tough. While I could survive a single Overwhelm in my armor choices, the spammage of more than that were quite devesating. I moved them up the priority kill list real quick just below mages.
Now off to the Alienage....

Overwhelms were not as much a probelm for my lightly armored rogue as I expected. The shadow wolves were nasty but other critters not so much, as I could back into a nook to avoid chain overwhelms. The real pain was an ogre's ram/ram/grab chain. My only hope against that was Naked Fury's advice to try to run behind the ogre when it rammed, in order to get knocked sideways instead of back. That gives time to drink a poultice but I couldn't manage it consistently.

For the Shadow wolves, I would stand near the door in the midst of a Glyph of Repulsion, and take them on one at a time as quickly as possible. While some areas can be done completely alone (eg; Gazkang, werewolves), if one needs to reload for some reason (eg; recover Fade Wall shield), having friends casting buffs, healing, etc does help speed up such battles. But I had to see for myself if I could take Ser C and her crew alone.

A couple of grenades should speed things up so you kill them before they start overwhelming.Elhanan wrote...
No hidey-holes for me. In the corner, one dog would Overwhelm, then the next one would take their turn, etc.

Also started a HN 2H, and have enjoyed dominating the marauding troops that used to give me fits. And as a personal bonus, the Lock Bash mod allows me to take the family loot; every root and copper!

Archers were always a pain as shattershot removed over half of my protection. I thought spiders at least would be easier but chain overwhelms were just as deadly and the encounter just before the spider queen - the second emissary and spiders - was still one of the toughest in the game. I wish I could think of a better tactic for that fight than to keep reloading until I get lucky.
I beat the high dragon first try but it took about four times as long and many more poultices. The slow attack speed meant I kept getting interrupted – all the dragon had to do was lift its leg and I’d lose my attack. At least the massive armor let me get tossed about like a ragdoll in the dragon’s jaws and live to tell the tale!
Ser Cauthrien at Howe’s was impossible. Ogres were the only critters less deadly than for my rogue.
I stole a trick from you, Elhanan, and used Leliana instead of the Lock Bash mod. She never attacked and with Stealth + Feign Death + defensive behaviour she almost always stayed out of harm’s way. It made the playthrough less lonesome, too.
Awakenings was still mostly easy, of course. But the Queen of the Blackmarsh was a good fight. I finally discovered what those wisps do if you don’t kill them quickly enough - my rogue and any party I’ve done never knew! The Baroness was impossible; I could not do enough damage between drains. If I needed any convincing that dw is the dps champ, that was it. After many, many tries, I got Justice to intervene with a shield bash.
The Architect was easy with 100% spell resist but the Mother was epic. Her spirit resistance meant I had to forgo Beyond the Veil and she does crazy damage with her grab. With near max health + Sentinel armor + Master Vitality I would survive a grab with a sliver of health. Also, her personal coterie of grubs seemed to do much more damage than others. It took about six tries to figure out winning tactics – a very satisfying climax!
Next up – a pure spellcaster mage, no specializations. Squishy and alone; it should be interesting.
