Hi everyone
I would like to know which is the best long sword in Baldur's I (no addons). And in ToSC? And one other think: is long sword the same as a two handed sword?

Thanks for reading!

A long sword is not the same as a two handed sword. It is one handed.

A bastard sword is half way between. It could be considered a one and a half handed sword.

I think that the best long swords are firstly the one carried by Greywolf and secondly the flame sword found in Durlag's Tower.

The advantage of a long sword is that it can be used with a shield, wheras a two handed sword cannot.

It can also be used for backstabbing by a thief, wheras bastard swords and two handed swords cannot. (A bastard sword can be used with a shield though)

Varscona is the overall best longsword, but there might be the occasional exception, like a silver/gold one for werewolves and wolfweres (I think the sword of balduran is a longsword).

Two handed sword...definitely not the same thing, although in normal BG1, they are both classified as "large swords" for the proficiency system.

Sword of balduran is a bastard sword. And yes, it doesn't matter in vanila BG1 proficiency system.

The best longsword in the entire game would be the moonblade found in the nashkell mines. It's basically a longsword +3 with a bonus +1 to ac and 50% protection from fire.

But there is a catch, it can only be wielded by Xan, an enchanter, who is not very well in close combat.

The moonblade use the small blade proficiency, so Xan can wield it without penalty, but you should buff him with spells if you want to use him in melee.

Best do yourself a favor, kill Drizzt take his scimitars and his chain-mail and you have some of the best equipment in the entire game.

In vanilla, if you are true neutral, have the same class as Xan, and have the same or better stats, you can actually wield that sword.
