Well...at it's core, they're basically, robots powered by extraordinarily advanced AIs.  Meaning a computer virus COULD do considerable damage.

That's part of the problem.

I swear if the answer is a virus I will rage.

I seriously hope it's not a virus myself. Reason is self-explanatory.

Given how ME2 rectonned the Council into complete morons...

Which Council?  The one that stationed fleets near relays from the Terminus systems and ignored your warnings?  The one that sent another small team to investigate Virmire?  The one that complained about nuking Virmire when they were breeding a Krogan army?

That Council?  Morons?

Realistically, is there a way for Shepard & Friends to win against the Reapers without a deus ex machina?

Impossible.

I wager that ME3 will include an epic space battle. However, it will probably just be a distraction while Shep & Co. go on a stealth mission or something to deliver the super-fancy-top-secret Reaper countermeasure.

I'd love Bioware going through these forums ticking off everything ever mentioned here just to keep their originality up.

I'm hoping the Mass Relays will be key. 'twould be fitting for the system the Reapers invented to destroy all space-faring life over and over to be the very thing that destroys them.

Shepard just needs to find Harbinger and give him a hug, the Reaper learns to love, we get a odd love scene, and the galaxy is saved.

The Reapers must lose this time because something has gone horribly wrong for them, which was not their fault. It must have been something they could not anticipate.

I suspect their hyperdrive is broken.

I see nothing wrong with this.

Obviously bioware will add some form of time travel into Mass 3 to stop the reapers, its inevitable.

That sounds like a bad Star Trek episode with the end joke being "I cant tell you Liara, Temporal prime directive..."

Bioware is far more creative then that.   But just to point out, yes I will commit suicide if any "temporal" garbage is involved   :?

Honestly, there are quite a few planetary descriptions that obviously refer to the Reapers in one way or another. The thing is we don't know enough to determine which one of them may in fact be a Chekhov's gun.

I thought it may be Earth. We know for sure that Protheans closely observed humans 50,000 years ago; Protheans could have seen humans' potential and hidden something that can help us fight the Reapers on Earth. (Though it seems strange to me that no one has found/discovered that something prior to ME3, even if by accident.) Also, this totally justifies visiting Earth in ME3 from plot's point of view. Personally I, to be honest, don't like the idea that much; I do already get the vibe that humans are some kind of 'unique' or 'chosen' species and I'm not into it.

Legion can't be hacked, so i find it difficult to believe an entire race of super machines can be.

But even so, I don't see why so many people are exploding into rage just by the thought of a virus. Computer problems? Kill it with a virus. Seems like a viable option to me.

I was answering a post about the extermination of a species being a long slow job, and the answer I gave seems appropriate here too. So please excuse the double post.

Originally the Reapers shut down all relays to strand all races in their own solar system where they could be picked off with no escape.

This is no longer possible since their epic Fail with Saren and Sovereign. The Reapers need to find a way to shut down the relays individually not en masse now the citadel plan has failed, which would mean a covert action on a system by sytem basis on their part, met by an equally covert action on Shepard's, starting on the outskirts of galactic civilization, like in the Terminus system on a system by system basis. They have already started on Humanity's colonies there if you remember.

This means missions fighting incursions by Heretic Geth and whoever else the Reapers have to help them - perhaps ON mass relays - they look like there are lots of rooms in them, I have always wondered if there was a crew in there. I reckon you can bet on more collectors and husks, scions etc. as adversaries.

It could well be a leading edge war, with civilization retreating as they get nearer, and the need for intel to pinpoint the relay they are hitting  next. In which case, even TIM is likely to have some info too.

This seems to me more feasable than an all out battle we cannot really win. Plus it fits the format of a game like ME better, with individual missions to save Relays from being switched off. Maybe we get missions to rescue key scientists or tacticians as well. Hmm, this sounds like a lot of fun ....  And avoids all the obvious Deus ex Machina tropes.

No, Shepard will have to assemble pieces of an ancient magic artifact by going to four different worlds in order get the gems that act as keys, fighting bosses. After that you go to three more planets to assemble the artifact where you then go to the Citadel to use it and fight a final boss.

God, i'm so hoping that the eventual solution to the reaper-threat comes in some other form than just being a matter of who has the biggest fleet and most powerful ships.
Mind you, Sovereign did say (in ME1) that the pattern has repeated itself before, more times than we can fathom, and although i love the fact that Shepard is trying to unite the other species into one single cohesive fighting force to fight the Reapers, there has got to have been several such alliances before on at least some occasions during previous Reaper-invasions; and still they lost. (obviously)

I am hoping there will be some truly original stuff to it, which we can't see clearly now, but will show up as the Final Answer in the last game. ^_^

I agree. I'm hoping that the planet Klencory and the "Lost crypts of beings of light that were meant to defend the galaxy against machine devils" comes back in ME3. That planet's description was quite intrigiuing.

I know that a bullet to the head solves every problem (The Teachings Of Shepard - The Pragia Scripts, Chapter 3) but where is the friggin head of such a reaper? (I'm glad we caught the reaper larva when it still had a head).

Shepard just has to cast Shaira's trinket back into the dark energy of Haestrom's sun. Then she will be saved by the Raloi.
