Not a fan of westerns. I'd love a modern day rpg, though.
A non combat RPG would be great. But I doubt it would sell enough for anyone to bother making.

There could still be violence, maybe downplayed, and the focus of the game could be more about exploration, story, character progression through solving mysteries. Maybe a detective style rpg would be cool. Or something like the X files.

What ever happened to mystery games? I remember an old Scooby Doo for Genesis that was really fun.

Whenever I peruse GoG, I'm reminded of the lack of innovation in todays gaming market. There were so many games back then that straddled genres or defied classification. Publishers and devs took more risks and the variety of games today pales in comparison. Makes me sound like an old fuddy duddy but its true. I want to see devs branch out more.
I may not like a Western rpg, but I guess I'd still love to see someone take a stab at it.

The lack off innovation in todays gaming market is simply down to money.

Not sure if RPG is the best format for a western game. But there has been a lack of quality western games over the years and personally I would love to see more of them.

An RPG can fit into anything. If you can assume a role you can role play it.

I suppose most games that would fit this bill fall into the 'puzzle' category, like the Longest journey, Dreamfall, Grim Fandango, Jazz & Faust, Myst etc. I've never liked this genre much, and now you point it out they are all staggeringly linear, so not much chance of RP. Still, the Longest journey & Dreamfall are worth a try, and even Grim Fandango if you fancy something really retro.

If you really want an explicitly Wild West RPG then play one of the Wild Arms games...except Wild Arms 4, that one sucked. Wild Arms 2 was my favorite.

Those fall under adventure games, not RPGs.
