Say you could choose six characters to be on your squad.  Just six.  Who would they be and why?  You can do just squadmates, just other NPCs, or a mix.  You can think strategically, pick your favorites, or do it for the lulz.  Characters from both games, alive or dead, are allowed.  You can even do stuff from the comics/books if you want.  Only rules are that you only get six, and they must be an official character in the Mass Effect universe.  Even though a full squad of Gordon Freeman clones would be awesome.

For me, the Serious Squadmate-Only Team:
1. Garrus.  He's a bro.
2. Wrex.  Awesome, unstoppable, and my wingman in ME1.
3. Legion.  Tech powers + Widow = pure win.  Favorite new squaddie in ME2.
4. Samara.  Favorite biotic, and Reave is amazing.
5. Mordin.  Incinerate spamming and comedic relief.
6. Kasumi.  Incredibly useful in combat, and for some reason I really like her.

NPC Team for the Lulz:
1. Detective Anaya.  The only normal asari on Illium.
2. Chellick.  Most BAMF C-Sec officer besides Garrus.
3. Refund Guy.
4. Morlan.  He has many good supplies.
5. Matriarch Aethyta.  It's putting Wrex and Samara in one convenient package.
6. Shifty-Looking Cow.  Doubles credits earned per mission.

My six squaddies.
1. Tali. I don't what I would do without Chitika. Tali is one of my favorite characters too.
2. Garrus.  BROFIST.
3. Legion.  Tech powers + Widow = pure win.  (same reasoning as you, robots are also awesome)
4. Samara. Biotics are important, and Samara is my favorite biotic.
5. Mordin. Mordin's character, hillarious. skills work well with others. good squadmate. reccomend.
6. Kasumi.  Shadow Strike rocks, and she is another great character imo, something about her personality. 

[LorDC]

1) Miranda. Because I like her. And her team support is awesome.

2) Grunt. Because he is almost like my son. And HE IS KROGAAAAAN!!!

3) Mordin. Can't live without his advices. Scientific expertise necessary.

4) Wrex. Brofist. He is krogan. Should I say more?

5) Garrus. Brofist again. Tech+sniping rocks.

6) Legion. Like his rational style of thinking. Same as above, tech+sniping rocks again.

[General User]

1.     Legion – that’s my ro-bro, yo! Tech skills superb. Besides, snipers always work in teams of two.
2.     Samara – Best biotic, 400+ years of combat experience could come in handy.
3.     Grunt – His tank implants have proven surprisingly insightful. Plus I want a shotgun wielding krogan on hand.  You know, just in case.
4.     Zaeed – “When it absolutely, positively has to die, accept no substitute.”
5.     Kasumi – Great tech skills, and no one does urban stealth like her.
6.     Jack – For those times when you need to bring the psycho, and hard.

For real:

Aria - total badass, SB dossier and videos are proof enough. She runs ****, and runs it hard.

Legion - good skills, cool character, probably has alot of useful knowledge (and maybe he can help me kill Tali and the rest of the whiney Quarians. I can hope.)

Grunt - wrex is cool, but Grunt was designed to be perfect. Plus, did you see him HOLD THE LINE alone?!

Mordin - I want to hear him call someone a cloaka like he does Kirrahe in the sb dossier and ME3 is the last chance for him to do it. Plus hes a foundation of useful data, and has STG background, and STG is supposedly like super black ops, which would be handy

TIM - Seriously? Coolest ME character to date, with the drive to do what it takes for humanity to survive. Never understood why everyone hates him.

Tela Vasir - too bad she's dead

Liara; she's my love and the one person I trust the most. And her biotics are very useful.

Tali; my best friend and an unparalleled engineer.

Garrus; my preferred second-in-command and very skilled in combat.

Tela Vasir: a little misguided, but we'd certainly be united against Cerberus and she's the best vanguard I can think of.

Legion: Overlaps with Tali and Garrus some, but they're best at hacking and computer relations, whereas Tali's more of a mechanic; plus, a geth liaison seems like it'd be good to have.

Mordin: Research is a beautiful thing to have.

• Miranda.  Defenses are a big part of combat.  Miranda can handle any defense type the game throws at her.
• Jacob.  He's a reliable support character with something to offer any team you can assemble.
• Virmire Survivor.  It would be nice to see Kaidan/Ashley again.  Kaidan has the potential to be a second Miranda with his Sentinel skills.
• Samara.  Sometimes you just need a powerful biotic.
• Kasumi.  I don't like Shadow Strike as it is currently implemented, but there's some potential there.
• Garrus.  Certain missions call for double Overload.

Garrus, but only if he actually has more to say and aint just pointless, if not replace him wirh Thane.

6/ Samara : a powerful biotic (I killed Jack in all my playthrough)

Companions only for each class.
Soldier: Ashley. Between her, Grunt, and Zaeed... like her the most.
Infiltrator: Garrus. Sorry Legion but Garrus is Garrus.
Vanguardish: Thane (not sure what else to put him under). Tough choice between him, Samara, and Wrex like them all but went with Thane.
Adept: Liara. My favorite character
Engineer: Mordin. He is the very model of a scientist Salarian after all.
Sentinal: Miranda. Hot, great personal story, and the most combat effective companion to date IMO.

All NPC's
1. David Anderson. Cool dude.
2. Saren... Arterius? Great antagonist.
3. Gianna... Pariseni? *shrugs* just always liked her.
4. Benezia. BOOBS.
5. Tela Vasir: when she ended up being another rogue spectre that needed killing.
6. Kal' Reeger: Another cool dude.
