Hi all,
I recently bought the 2 Disc DVD box of BG1+TotSC but I have a lot of problems sorting out the installment, patching and setting up multiplayer.
As a starter, I'm trying to install the game on a dutch OS version of Vista. The game unpatched tells me it can't run on a non-english OS platform unless it is patched accordingly.
Thus I downloaded the latest international TotSC patch available at the website together with the international DirectX patch.
However, when I first apply the international game patch it solves the region problem of the game, then when I then apply the international DirectX patch it makes it undone again.
I've also tried applying the English DirectX patch on top of the international game patch--dispite the warning not to--and this patch doesn't make the region fix undone like his internation version, instead it lets me start up the game but it doesn't fix my multiplayer as its discribed to do.
As for multiplayer. I spend quite some time trying to setup to no avail. I tried:
- write exception for my firewall
- turned off my firewall completly
- tried using Hamachi
As you can see, I'm rather clueless which patches I should install and in which order, and what I should do to get the multiplayer working.
Could some enlighten me please?
If I need to provide additional information, do ask.

I don't use Vista (to this day i never saw any reason to upgrade XP), so my answer might be wide off the mark, but as far as i know the Direct X patch is only needed if you have the 6 cd version of Baldur's Gate. Have you tried multiplayer without installing the Direct X patch?

No, I didn't try it. I will do that tonight. Do I need to uninstall BG completely for it?

To be on the safe side, uninstall the game completely.

Agree with Flamedance, the directx patch is no longer required and you will need to re-install if you applied it.
Multiplayer in recent versions of Windows is best started in windowed mode to avoid a black frozen screen. Once into the game you can revert to fullscreen. That should allow you to set up a party with more than one generated character,or if you intend connecting with a 2nd player it sounds like you are on the right lines.

Good news everyone!
The multiplayer problem is fixed by reinstalling BG. I didn't install TotSC yet just as a test, and BG1 seems to run fine on MP now unpatched.
I'll install TotSC and patches now and hopefully it keeps working, else I'll have to play it without the mission pack or patches.
